I got the solid black body and it's really smooth. I don't feel any hot spots on mine. I ended up putting an extra magnet in each corner, leaving the middle as is and taking out the o-rings and it's great.

At 10:34, I believe these are the same, just set up differently. One has the tracks lined up (long slide). The other (yours) has the tracks crossing each other. This allows more directions, but less slide distance 👍🙂

I reckon the texturing on the plates of the more expensive version is probably there (at least partially) to disguise wear-and-tear. You won't notice scuffing so much because only the raised portions of the plate are subject to it, and those portions are broken up into thin lines that won't show the scratches. Just a theory, but seeing how worn down your 'lite' looks after only a week or two, I reckon that's a benefit even if it wasn't intended. It may also help smoothness by trapping air pockets, I guess.

I also felt it was a tad strong stock. You could try putting weaker magnets in. That's what I did with mine and it really made the play much smoother.
