Emily Reads
Добавлен 31 май 2021
Welcome to my reading blog! I read mainly fantasy, science, fiction, YA dystopian, fantasy, sci-if. I also like cozy murders, sweet romances, and Jane Austen. In 2022, My goal is to complete the Harry Potter Flourish and Blotts O.W.L. Reading challenge, and if I can, the Popsugar reading challenge. In addition to reading, I teach, enjoy all things Baby Yoda, The Child, Grogu, and enjoy singing!

January 2024 Wrap Up and February 2024 TBR
I loved A Song to Drown Rivers. It is a standalone, and it's just beautiful.
@@iheartwalle Awesome. Botm has been hit or miss for me
I know Emily Lloyd-Jones! We went to the same grad school. She's a great writer.
@@iheartwalle that's so awesome! I'm looking forward to reading her book.
The mysterious affair at styles and Razorblade Tears are really good! If you want a buddy reader for The Forgotten Garden, The Nightingale, North and South, or Middlemarch, let me know! I’ve got those on my shelves. Mansfield Park isn’t my favorite Austen. But it’s worth a read. I still need to read Emma to be an Austen completist. My big book that’s been on my list forever is Crime and Punishment! Great list!
@Michelelynnreads I'm looking forward to all these reads. North and South and Middle March would probably be the easiest fir me to buddy read as the other books I would probably just read as much as I could in a day. With classics I tend to have a goal to finish them in 1-2 months and then figure out how many pages I need to read in a day to meet that goal. I feel like thet kind of pacing works better for buddy reads so that one person doesn't get too far ahead or behind even if you miss a day or two of reading during g the week.
@@emilyreads5207 That sounds like a good plan. Let me know when you are ready to read either. We can do it on your timeline.
@Michelelynnreads sounds good! I am thinking maybe Feburary or March? I plan on reading Rhythm of War and Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell this winter too. So maybe March? I need to read RoW before Wind and Truth and the Susanna Clarke i need to read in winter.
That's a great haul - also congrats on winning the giveaway! Those are some amazing prices - you're right you can't really pass those up. (hope you are still enjoying Iona Iverson 😊)
@@cajunpeachreads I LOVED Iona! I need to read her other book.
Fun haul, enjoy your new reads!
@@StormReads thanks!
I read Homecoming earlier this year! Awesome plot twist.
The Cat Who series!!!! If you ever want to buddy read one, let me know!
@@MyBookHauledLife-Essie I plan on reading the 4th book either this month or next month
I am about to post a large book haul as well! I just saw you on Chrissie's Purple Library reading sprint! I subbed!
@@MyBookHauledLife-Essie thanks for the sub!
I have the Vampires of el Norte to read this month. I love Bram Stoker, and i love the last paragraph it always makes me smile😀
@lorrainealba4105 enjoy Vampires of El Norte- note that it is more a love story as ith Vampires thrown in
All the best in your reading this month! I’m currently reading The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. It’s slow so far. It’s pretty good but I’m hoping it picks up steam.
@landon_woods-of-yore Thanks Landon! I hope you enjoy Priory and you will have to let me know your thoughts. Sad to say I DNF'd is around page 380. Not enough of one POV for me or enough dragon riding training (and that is blurred on the back), and I just didn't care about any of the characters. I feel like Priory is a book people either loved or didn't. I hope you are in the love camp.
Aww you are so sweet - I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😊 Sounds like you had a good month reading. My favorite reads in October were Scared Sheetless in Birmingham (Cousins Cozy #2) and Murders at the Winterbottom Women's Institute (Prunella Pearce #1). Interesting about Dracula .
@cajunpeachreads you are always finishing some book. There are so many cozy mysteries I need to start trying... And it made my day to get the book and bookmark from you!
I loved loved loved Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting. Do you do audio books? I don't think I've heard you mention them but if you do the audio of it is great ( I was able to borrow it from my library) . Good luck with your readathons!!!
@cajunpeachreads I do audio books only if it is a reread. My brain wanders and then I have to try and figure out where I left off. So audio books don't work the best foe me if I haven't read it before. But I'm so glad the book is good!
Enjoy your readathons and books! I have heard of Bucket List but Winterathon is new to me. 😃
I never realised that 11/22/63 was such a chunky book. I have it on Kindle and read it years ago and found it quite fast-paced. That is a stunning edition of Little Woman. I only discovered Sarah J Mass this year and quickly read through acotar. I'm planning throne of glass for January and February next year. Happy reading x
Forgotten garden was my favorite Kate Morton! Although I only read 2
@@Readingindarknesss I've heard so many.good things about it.
That quite a list - good luck with the challenge. Also true, you read The Count of Monte Cristo so War and Peace should not be an issue or any of the other chunky ones.
@cajunpeachreads I'm not worried about the other chunky ones. I AM worried about.War and Peace since it's a time period and locale I'm not too familiar with. Plus the cast of characters is 500+ and Russians have their given name, their titled name, and their nicknames.
Good luck with your challenge! Good luck with The Stand, you have the extended version and it so bored me lol. I was going to do something like this but then I didn't and now its to later as I have less than a year to read things lol.
@@StormReads I have 3 years. But I have so many chunky books! The Stand I got super cheap at a library book sale. We shall see...
The large print version of the cat who book you need does have a cat on the cover
All the best in your reading this month! I’m currently rereading The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne, in anticipation of The Fury of the Gods being released later this month.
@@landon_woods-of-yore I need to read that- but I have to say it's low on my TBR since I didn't get along with Faithful and the Fallen. How are you finding it?
I'm doing a bunch of scifi this October because I've been very fantasy-focused this year
Octavia's not for everyone. She can get real weird. Fledgling is my least favorite unfortunately.
@iheartwalle I'm going in with that expectation that I'm nit going to enjoy it. But it's for a reading challenge. I want to love her. And I loved Kindred.
If you like audiobooks you should get Dracula version with Tim Curry. 😃 Hope your October reading goes great.
@@StormReads I'm not an audio fan if I haven't read the book. I can't focus enough to be able to follow along. Maybe next year...
Dracula is such a fun read. Very melodramatic and a little mystery with adventure.
@@katiemcneece9291 I'm looking forward to it!
Garlic and the Vampire is very cute and really quick. I think it's very sweet to read some Sherlock in October to honor your father. You have given yourself a lot to choose from so hope you enjoy whichever ones you read. I'm doing Hallowtween and the Calendar Readathon in October. Thank you for your kind words ❤
@cajunpeachreads thank YOU for the book and bookmark! What is the Calendar readathon?
Happy birthday! I loved A Song to Drown Rivers. It is barely fantasy but i thought it was beautiful.
@@iheartwalle that is good to hear!
Happy birthday 🎉 looks like some great books
@@Oatmaster thanks!
Happy belated birthday, Emily! I'm going to be filming my tomorrow! I really want to read The Maid. I've been hearing so much about it. Under the Banner of Heaven is intense and well-done.
@Michelelynnreads I gasped outlook when I read The Maid because I wasn't expecting something. I'm looking forward to Under the Banner of Heaven- I'll probably have to read it over winter or summer break
👏🏻 Awesome birthday haul! 📚 I'll be curious to see what you start with! 🤓
@Lu.G. Garlic and the Vampire is on deck for October.
Hey! I see you figured out how to fix yoir videos so that the covers are not backward! 😃 Yay! Wow, a used book store already has Blackbird Oracle lol. I will be curious what you think of it. Great haul! 😃
@StormReads yes! Thanks for tip! And for the shout out in your video! And I'm planning all kinds of Vamire books for October
Happy birthday Emily, subscribed to your channel after watching storms video, happy reading 😊
@@terriersforever23 thanks for subscribing! And thanks for the birthday wishes!

what the river knows sounds so intriguing! I love the premise...love archeology!!
@theBeachbumbookworm I really enjoyed it. And my first college search in HS was archeology schools. It was my dream to study it at the University of Chicago
I love the cover of not in love!
@theBeachbumbookworm the cover is great. The book was not.
Hey Emily! cute earrings!
@theBeachbumbookworm thanks. I found them on Amazon- my brother lifted them to me for Xmas off my wish list
📚I love your earrings! I agree the cover should match the tone of the book - otherwise it's just misleading. Sadly I think that may be purposeful by some publishers. I'm not sure why there are still some disabilities/things people cannot control or change that seem to still be ok to make fun of or mock. My favorite read in August was Bout to Dye in Birmingham (Cousins Cozy Mysteries #1). I liked it so much more than I expected to.
@cajunpeachreads as a special education teacher, it's frustrating. And the bar for ADA compliance is so low. The earrings I found on Amazon and one of my brothers lifted them to me for Xmas.
I really enjoyed Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow.
@jimsbooksreadingandstuff I am.so glad! I was worried because I usually don't like books that are so popular. But I really did like it!
Great wrap up! To bad that Ali Hazelwood book wasn't great. I haven't read that author but know she is a popular one.
@@StormReads I've read everything by her and love her. This one just didn't work for me.
Love your pile of possibilities!! Have a wonderful reading month and Happy Birthday 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@soniawithani7586 thanks! And I rolled a 5- which works as my main character is male
@@emilyreads5207 awesome Go Fred!! 💜💚💜💚
The Tainted Cup is wonderful! I loved it.
@@iheartwalle I'm 50 pages in.
😮 They spoiled the book! Why do people do that! Hope you enjoy your picks!
🔪🔍 I always love seeing your list of possibilities - you partake in so many readathons, I like seeing how you find books for the prompts. Plus I am amazed at the number of chunkers you can get read in a month!
@@cajunpeachreads I'm not going to read all of this. There is no way. But I like having options
Hey Emily! I love the snoopy book mark! The Christmas LM Montgomery....I did not know about this book!...will have to check it out! lots of books I had never heard of, but really enjoyed seeing ty!
@@theBeachbumbookworm the LM Montgomery book I got with a Barnes and Noble purchase

Great Unhaul, thanks for sharing.
I didn't know you went to Seminary and studied counseling - though I can definitely see that in you. That's a lot of books but since you don't want to read/re-read them it's nice that they could go to someone you would enjoy them.
@cajunpeachreads yes- I stopped a course and two practicum shy of my master's. COVID pandemic and working a residential job where I was getting calls at all hours if the day made it hars to juggle.
I may have just cleaned you out a bit over on Pango 😅 so many of these sound good! Thank you for passing them along ☺️💜

Hey Emily! A week and 4 days…not that your counting lol Free laptop! That’s amazing!! A book gift card!! Awesome! The cover in pride and premeditation is great! That is one chunky book! lol Everyone I go on vacation someone dies sounds really interesting! 🩷🩷💜📚☕️📚☕️😃😃
@theBeachbumbookworm I think you would like Everytime I Go on Vacation...Pride and Premeditation is the first jn a series and the covers on the other two are just as gorgeous. And now we are at less than a week left of break. Boo.
I just finished watching the BBC Middlemarch Series last week. I think that was my 3rd viewing. Congratulations on your wins and new laptop! My favorite read was The Shivering Sands by Victoria Holt. Amazing twist at the end! I shy away from big books but usually do what you did with big classics and divide readings up.
My favorite read of July was Long Live Evil by Sarah Rees Brennan. So much fun!
