Welcome to The Mixing Bowl Homestead. We started learning more about gardening and prepping because, in February 2017, I had a dream. I clearly heard the Lord telling me to "prepare, for a famine is coming to the land".
We were living in a townhouse at that time; we could not put everything into practice. So worked hard and saved all we could, and four years forward, the Lord blessed us with our home. Now, it is time to apply all I have been learning.

Thank you for sharing your mother's recipe. I will be moving to Panama next month and want to try to learn how to cook native dishes.
That is awesome. While we have some dishes that are found in all provinces, you will quickly find out that our food changes based on the different regions. If you are relocating to the city, just picture yourself in New York City with people and foods from all over the world. But if you are moving to the countryside, you are in for a regional treat. Eating mangos on a hamaca near the beach. Best wishes.
Liz where did you get the shelves to hold the large food containers? I like you set up so well. I purchased some bettle vaults but am having a challenge as to how to have them aced.
Hi dear. Thank you for watching. I got them from Amazon. Here’s the link. I’m not affiliated or anything. Thank you for the recipe! It turned out amazing! ❤
So glad to hear. 😊😊😊 thank you.
I did this recipe just like you explained and my meat came out tough and not fall apart like you shows on the recipe 😢
I am so sorry dear. We make it like this and it always comes out tender as in the video. And I’ve tried this recipe with both store bought and locally sourced beef grass fed beef. Maybe try cooking it on medium low for a bit longer?
@@TheMixingBowlHomestead I will try that next time :) Thank you!
Usually add beef broth.. I make my own beef broth
Adding that water was a game charger. Best fastest way.
It's nice to share, but keep it private.
Definitely. Thanks
Thank you so much 😊
Always welcome
why use "ugly chicken" when you had the natural fresh chicken you cooked?
Oh, you might have not noticed that I used canned chicken as well in part of the video. I call it ugly chicken as canned chicken is really not that attractive, but it taste great and is good to have for emergencies etc. thank you for watching 🙏
I did notice that you used canned chicken and that was my question, why use canned chicken when you cooked fresh chicken legs and thighs in the skillet?
Mouth watering
It was so juicy and tender. My mouth is watering now. LOL Thanks for watching 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Hope you enjoy
You know that old saying about chopping wood? When you think you have enough, triple it! After the phone outages nationwide, I’m stepping up my game. Lots of canning and preserving this weekend.
That’s the truth. I’m stepping up my game too. Blessings and thank you for watching,
Oh my goodness. I want them.
Me too 🤣🤣🤣 but the sad part is that we discovered that my husband is severely allergic to dogs. Emergency room allergic 😔 so they can’t come in the house.
Have you made spicy pickled eggs? I just did my first batch yesterday. Anxiously awaiting the results in a week or so.
😃never tried them. I’ll go and check out your video.
I don’t do videos :( I did have a cheeky taste and they are already delicious. I made them with loads of assorted peppers and onions and garlic. @@TheMixingBowlHomestead
Dang girl, you cook like me! Using all the stuff. Lol. I love it. Wish you were my Texan neighbor.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have to keep this man happyyyyyy
I save all my lids. When I’m short a jar of canning for the pressure cooker, I’ll put water in a jar to fill the space. I always use a used lid and they seal perfectly every single time. ❤
Yes yes yes. I started reusing them too. I was so afraid at first, but finally became comfortable doing it. And when they get too bit up for canning, they work out great for my dehydrated goods.
I bet that’s delicious.
Looks yummy. I’m addicted to canning.
Me too!!
I’ve canned lots of mushroom broth and I also can the mushrooms. It’s got a lovely umami flavor. Try it out. Love your pantry.
Mushroom broth? 🤔 sounds interesting. Can you send me a link to your video?
❤❤❤❤Nice to see you back! We’ve missed you.
Ahhh thank you. Thank you 🙏 you made my week. It’s been a long healing journey. But I’m determined to catch up. These here folks ate in about 3 months everything I thought was enough food for a year 🤣🤣🤣 it was a butter sweet experience but a necessary one. I am tripling my pantry size and my garden too
Liz! I love this! You are too gifted!
Thank you my brother. Growing what we eat fills our pantry, saves us money, helps us to spend more time as family, the kids learn valuable life lessons and skills, mentally therapeutic, connects me to God and so much more. Thank you for watching.
I love the cat
That poor little kitten lives on the streets. It comes around everyday so we started feeding him. Coco and Luna chase the kitten away every day but it keeps coming back.
It’s a cute little kitten.
Delicious ...
Thanks a lot
Good job ma, 👏 so delicious
Thank you so much
Hi Liz, very impressive. could you please share where you get your bulk storage bins from. Thanks
Thank you dear. Those are from Amazon. They are called Gamma Vaults and they come in different sizes. This is the size I use. No affiliate links just sharing 🙂a.co/d/7k0cR9D
Just a fyi.....bottled water shouldn't be placed on the floor unless its sitting on wood. Yours is on a rack which is fine, but I wanted to make you aware. Chemicals in concrete can actually penetrate plastic bottles. Also, the bottles will cause your rack to buckle after a while. Ive seen this on a lot of videos. Have a blessed day!
Thank you. Yes, very true. We’ve created a larger water storage in a separe area of the house with the blue containers and are on wood pallets.
By far, your pantry is definitely in my top five (actually top 3) favorites I've seen (Ive seen so many I cant count) Your presentation is perfect, everything looks so organized. I'm saving it to use as an example for my future pantry. You are sweet, continue to give God the praise--He is worthy of it!🙌🏽
Amen. Wow, thank you! You made my day. I’ve made a few changes to the pantry but time permitting, I will upload another video. May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly. Thank you for your kind words.
Praise God, honey! I praise Him along with you! Awesome pantry!
Amén Amén
My grandfather taught me to make this as a teen, it was the first thing I ever learned to cook. This video brought back so many good memories, thank you.
That is awesome! I’m so happy our video brought you some sweet memories. Welcome to the Mixing Bowl Homestead Family
DO NOT follow this recipe. Its horrible and the bitc made me ruine my roast trying her recipes. Use any othr video or recipe but this messed up mess. Unless u want a hard roast
Praise the Lord!! You are so encouraging! I'm thrilled to have found you. Your pantry is inspiring!
Welcome!!
What an inspiring pantry!! Thanks Liz!!!!
Thank you for stopping by. Besides pantry organization and long term food storage, what other type of topics do you enjoy watching?

Me gustaría em español pata entender nose ingles pero gracias x compartir

You are a HEAVEN SENT ANGEL to all who live in the US and can't find the maiz pilado. I found it today after serching in a Goya page on the internet where you can find the store their products are located. I found it in a Sedanos store in Hialeah, FL. I also was wondering how the heck to use the banana leaves and how to process them for the tamales. THANK YOU! Just wish they had bijao leaves; and how to wrap the tamales in foil to avoid the masa from coming out. I also always wondered if we could use the Masarepa harina to make the tamales if we can't find the maiz. THANK YOU. It's too late to make tamales for Xmas but my daughter wants tortillas so with the corn I'll make them. We went to Panama when my grandson was 2, asked for tamales and no one gave me one, still don't know how that happened but it's been more than 14 years since I've had a good tamal. Again thank you for your video, I'll keep looking for more recipes on your page. So excited I can't even type. Feliz Navidad!
Gracias corazón. Pero mamita, no es muy tarde. Nos quedan 3 días 🤣🤣🤣 if not, there’s always new years. I make a huge batch and freeze to eat throughout the entire year. Ok, when you buy the banana leaves, please look through the packaging and try to buy the ones with the lighter green color. If the leaves have a very dark green color, they are usually old and easily break. Remove from the packaging, place them flat inside your cleaned sink, add salt and then cover them with hot water. I use a brand new dish sponge to wipe off the leaves. You can also use paper towels, I cut the leaves 3 times the size of the masa I intend to add. Now, to save money, cut your banana leaves to just go around the masa one time. Cut your aluminum foil, please the piece of banana leave on top, add the masa, chicken, etc, then wrap your foil into a rectangle to shape the tamales. If you don’t add the banana leaves and wrap the masa just in the foil, they will taste nasty in my opinion. Bring your water to boil, add a tablespoon of salt (depending on the size of your pot and water quantity once the water is boiling, add the tamales, and cook. Best wishes on the tamales and happy holidays. Con mi burrito sabanero voy camino de Belén…. (Tú sigue) 😊😊😊😊
@@TheMixingBowlHomestead Thank you for the hoja tip. Se me olvido new year's. Fantastico, estoy haciendo un trabajo manual para una fiesta de noche buena that I totally forgot about new years, my daughter is off and it will be a nice teaching experience. Hope we don't get in a sweet argument like always. I will share with my cousin who also lives here. So tomorrow I'll start making the tortilla masa for Xmas breakfast, the only thing missing is the queso blanco, but there are some cheeses in the Hispanic stores that taste like queso blanco de Panama. Voy a panameñizar a mi nieto! I'm not too much of nochebuena, I like Xmas morning. An old kid at heart with opening presents. And again thank you. ALMEDIA

Thanks I really appreciated! Panama love from CT
You are very welcome. Making them for Christmas or New Year’s? 😃
What’s an ugly chicken in a jar??looks delicious
🤣🤣🤣🤣 it’s pressured canned chicken. But once added to other ingredients, looks and taste s delicious 😊
Never heard of that 😂😂
Liz. Tha k you for sharing your pantry, and Giving God Glory and praise while doing it. I do have a question ?you have green leaves inside your Gama lid beans what are they and what will it do for the beans? Thanks in advance
Hi dear. Amen and Amen. Those are bay leaves. They help repel insects. I add them to rice and beans.
I really love this ma
Wow 👌 I love this ma well done
Thank you ❤️ one to keep the husband happy. God don butter my bread with him oh.
Wov beautiful
Thank you
I have been binge watching your videos! I'm a culturally removed Panamanian. My dad came to America at 18 but never taught us anything about Panama or Panamanian culture, he didn't even teach us Spanish (not sure why). So seeing people like you is really great, thank you for sharing ❤.
Thank you dear. Happy to have you as part of the Mixing Bowl Homestead family. 🤗 It’s ok. I made the same mistake with my children. They understand it if it’s spoken slowly but the speak very little and when they do it’s in Spanglish. 🫣🫣🫣 but they know how to cook though. Would you like me to make a video about hojaldres and tortillas for you?
I love how your pantry is organized. I took an empty bedroom and turned into my Prepper pantry. I’m fixing to pull everything out of my pantry and get it reorganized.
That’s awesome @wvhomesteadingmomma I can’t wait to see how it’s going to look once you reorganize everything. I’m sure it come out exactly the way you envision it. I’m here canning like there’s no tomorrow. While I was sick and unable to move, my family depleted what I thought, was a year worth of food and supplies. It only took them 4 months for consume most of it. 🥴🥴🥴
@@TheMixingBowlHomestead oh no 😥 I hope your doing better. I’ve canned sweet potatoes (after finding them for 80 cents a bag which was 3#) and I made more cranberry sauce but this time I cooked cinnamon sticks (pulled the cinnamon sticks out prior to canning). My room is total disaster area. Thanks for the confidence. I’ll film before and after.
Enjoyed watching your video,informative
Thank you for stopping by. Tomorrow is elephant garlic planting time 😃
