The Fiesta is so boring to look at. The GR Yaris looks amazing and has mega presence and head turning ability. Its individual and not a chav mobile like a Fiesta, hence why I brought one. As a single guy of 60, it ticks a lot of boxes for me. I've now started the mods, what a fab car Toyota has built 👌
Boring!!!!!!!!!!
What will be lighter - a car body made of graphene or carbon ?
Now I love a hot hatch. For me it’s all about turning in lift off balance and trail braking control. I think the fiesta ST 1.5 3 pot is the best FWD I have ever driven. In 1992 the Nissan Sunny GTI 2L was the Daddy closely followed by a 205 GTI 1.6 then the 1.9. It’s the steering and feel of control / balance that is predictable. It’s not a shock or surprise; it does the same thing beautifully every time. You enjoy the feeling and you can use it on a daily basis without any issues. The fiesta also has that diff that pulls you out… The transition mid corner is driving pleasure. Not only is it balanced on the way in, it's great on the way out. It’s as you guy’s say, completely usable and fun every drive.
I have both and the Yaris stays in the garage on a trickle charger. Would have taken some balls to go against the overwhelming pro-Yaris opinion out there. But you are completely right, Dan. Interestingly, Jason CarGuys has just arrived at the same conclusion.
Porsche need to make a hot hatchback
cant believe this has so little views thank you and thanks tiktok
What a great interview. Dan is bang on the money. I test drove a GR Yaris when they first came out. Weather conditions were awful, but still the Yaris wasn't phased. I walked back into the dealership and told the salesman that the car was too fast. He looked confused. I explained that I was after a car that was fun at the lowest possible speeds. This is exactly what Dan is saying.
Perhaps a fiat 500 then? The fiesta is still a pretty quick car
I fucking love these shoes. I own them and wear the hell out of them! 🔥
How does the fiesta compare to an M2. Totally different, I know, but still interested.
Wanna legal speed fun? buy an 86.
Talks some waffle this lad 🤣🤣🤣
All I'm here for is the Electric Caterham
Love my Mk8 ST. You don’t need anymore power In my opinion on British B roads! Plenty of poke and handles brilliantly ! That said I’d consider the Yaris in a couple of years time !
Totally, definitely try and drive one before you do!
After a little while the st will be forgotten and the Yaris will get more and more desirable
Maybe…
Doubtful they too expensive.
Agree, that's the difference between a Toy and a Sports Car Hothatches are toys made for fun Homologation special sports cars are made to go fast effectively
Which maybe is less fun…
After my previous car was totalled in an accident I went and placed an order for the GR Yaris CP. This was in December and due to the long wait I went and bought a nearly new Fiesta ST to drive it until the Yaris delivery in June. I am so impressed with the Fiesta that I started to question the need to buy the GRY now. The handling is so much better than the GRY (which I also drove hard) and on public roads I rarely think I need more power. It’s a lot more economical and has heated seats and steering wheel, a proper audio system and a nice exhaust sound with pops and bangs. What more can I ask from a daily? The torque steer is the only thing that I do not particularly enjoy but the feedback and speed of action is nice. GRY steering was a bit numb from centre. Thank you guys for your valuable feedback on these cars. It helped me make up my mind: I will go and buy a Mazda 3 SkyactiveX sedan for a daily 🤪 because I need a comfier ride and a better driving position which neither of the two can offer! 🤦♂️
Haha
Everyone different mate. I have a GR base model in Australia and love it but I do see your point about the car being not as much fun at speed limits as slower cars like ST. I do think mods in the future will help this if that's your cup of tea.
Missed opportunity. Especially as when I enquired none of there cars have a Euro rating even though the engine originally does. So for me this is a no go car as I live 100 yards from the extended Ultra Low emissions expanded area in London. For me to drive a Caterham a few yards will cost me £15.oo per day if i stay out one minute past midnight that jumps to £30.oo and if i want to go anywhere near the West End of London then that's another £15.oo congestion charge = £45.oo for a day out every day.
That’s extreme. It will definitely make running some cars far too expensive
@@carchatpodcastclips1427 Its just been announced the current Mayor of London would expand the Low Emission Zone beyond the North South Circular Roads to the entirety of greater London, as it will save many thousands of lives.
@@jameshamilton6096 unfortunately it's hard to argue with that. We need to clean up air in london.
@@CarChatPodcast I absolutely agree with you. The question then is why do Car reviewers and RUclipsrs by and large not state the Euro rating and perhaps the safety rating on cars they are testing?
@@jameshamilton6096 sounds like something for Autocar etc. Most youtubers are talking about modern cars which pass all these tests and have never thought about it.
He is only talking about 812 vs TDF. Where is the F12 here? Would be better to hear why the F12 is so much worse...
That’s it, I’m convinced that the 812 may be viable,..... would you buy one without the suspension lifter option , as looking to do more European road trips....... at some point. And keep up the great work!
LOL you are defo not the snooker player as he would never spend that much on a car!
Colin Chapman would rotate in the grave, at least with todays heavy batteries. Just my opinion.
I hope not. Battery powered cars are a total con. They have no environmental benefits overall. Its as obvious as the folly of promoting diesel by the hapless Gordon Brown.
even if you negate the fact of the batteries being worse for the environment, with most of Europe's energy becoming renewable can help countries to become energy independent from norway, america and the middle east meaning if more people drive electric and more energy comes from local sources like gas or wind, that then keeps more money in your local economy instead of millions getting spent on petrol and diesel only going out elsewhere
Battery electric car does much less damage to the environment than a petrol or diesel car during their whole lifetime. The research is done and settled.
@@DripDripDrip69 Believe the rhetoric if you wish. Your title suggests to me you are a bit of a dreamer.
@@smartiecooper4702 Just because you refuse to acknowledge facts doesn't make them false. The only rhetoric here are spilled by the oil industry. And what's wrong about wishing the world better than you find it. Luckily there are enough people who are willing to move forward conservatives like you will be dragged alone whether you like it or not.
@@DripDripDrip69 So I am a Conservative, bit of a sweeping assumption. Guess it would be a waste of time suggesting this but you might like to look at some alternative sources of information. Example "Al jzeera" currently have some articles on there website which look at the impact of so called green energy.
So what would the weight of an electric motor producing 125hp be?. What is the weight of batteries to power that to 150miles? So in an electric Caterham, that weight would take the place of the weight of the engine and gearbox, the cooling system and the fuel tank and fuel. There is also to consider the shape of the battery. To go underneath the car it could be long and thin. But it's thickness will comprise the ride height of the vehicle. If it can replace the fuel tank, it can be taller or even stacked. Dependant on the physical size of the electric motor, batteries could be split front and rear. Lots n lots of things to consider and plan, work round before 2030.
I'm currently in the beginning of building a road legal electric one, the horespower is not comparable to give you an idea some guys have build one that has for example a Yasa-750 engine. It's 37 kg and puts out a peak of 790 nm torque and 200 KW power, continous 400 nm and 70 kilowatt. please not that it is a very linear power not like a fuel engine that peaks at a certain rpm ... with this engine your main problem is grip. 2-ish second 0-60 times are possible. If you take a standard ford engine + gearbox you will end up at let's say 130 kg so you have 90 - 100 kg of battery option to still maintain the same weight and balance as the standard setup ... not that crazy is it ... I'm going to build a light version ... max 1.5 meters wide based on the locost book in order to be able to get it on EU L7 registration as a quadromobile, only 15 KW of electro power and topspead of 90 km/h pure as a fun project and safer then a Vespa :p
The other big Problem, next to the weight, is the thermal management. Batteries are very sensetive on temperatur. The problem with this: 90 °C, like in a conventional Caterham, are way to much - above 50 °C batteries get very uncomfortable (and of course your coolant has to be significant cooler). If you don't want to renew your batterie in a Formula E rhythm, you need a big aktive cooling system (which adds additional weight). And with this, with the industry's standards of today, you can just delay the point on a track day, where your batterie stays to hot. Maybe this will change with oil cooling (which can flow directly nearby the cells, because it is electrical isolating) - but this isn't even used by Porsche or Tesla today... So untill it finds its way into a caterham, there is a ling way to go... But to be honest: We as car enthusiasts aren't so many people and it should be possible, to run those few caterhams until this day ;)
Folks have been building electric Sevens for years. These guys are behind the curve already
Can you not take a formula E car as a starting point, then it all works out.
One of the problems with the F12 is it's traction control wasn't great so it was constantly trying to kill you? Geez, thank god you weren't driving cars like these for all the decades prior before traction control was common or around at all...How about, let's see, learning how to actually drive??? Blaming a supercar's traction control, lol. God, what would you do without TC, ABS, SC and the rest of the driver aids making everyone nowadays think they know how to drive? Stick the Ferrari into CST-Off and learn how to drive or don't complain. Clearly another case of more money than driver skill.
I Absolute agree 💯
But...the wonderful cars of yester-year did not have 800hp. You're totally right, 400hp or less doesn't need traction control beyond your brain and right foot. Anything higher immediately loses grip without computer nannies.
