Shrewsbury Streetscape Project

In April 2019 local architect and artist James Wade began work on a project to record the historic streetscape of Shrewsbury in a series of unique architectural views allowing the whole length of each street to be seen simultaneously. This is likely to be a long term project and this channel aims to track its progress, sharing drawing techniques and historical insights along the way.

@@banana8840 lots more colours usually but at the moment The Castle stones are grey, reddish brown, Prussian blue, yellow ochre and graphite pencil …thanks for nice comments- have passed onto James 🤩

Shrewsbury has many of these timbered buildings built around 1450. This one belonged to the Abbot of Lilleshall. It still has its medieval shop units…

@@shrewsburystreetscapeproje3119 I live in a village 200 km from the city of Samara - there are no such people. . We have a different architecture. But I admire - finding in a search engine -architecture. - thanks for the answer.

CORRECTION! This is actually the Concert Hall Building built 1897 by JM Brydon. It’s joined onto the Pump Room which James will draw next!

Thanks Brian. If you look at the home page of streetscapeproject.com there is a 10 min video with more info about the project and James chatting. Basically he drew one building in our hometown of Shrewsbury and then lockdown came, architectural work dried up and he kept drawing and drawing and drawing… now it’s 4 years on! I’d love James to talk more to camera on this channel but he just wants to draw! But maybe your kind comments will encourage him!

Hi Lidia - thanks for getting in touch - James uses a 0.5 mm Pentel P205 propelling pencil with either B or 2B leads on cartridge paper. Hope that helps!

@@ELP979 The paper is smooth/heavyweight. Daley Rowney - has a bit of grain to pick up the pencil crayon. It’s 220 g/m 420x297 mm. A3. Hope that helps 👍
