Even though he smiled I hope he was able to move on (even though it's fictional). I had a long lasting relationship for 12 years and we where seperated at least 2/3 of the time due to school, studies, army etc. We were engaged and planning our marriage. It was not always easy, but most of the time we were happy I guess. We finally made it to the point in our life where we could have a life together and may even consider getting children. But over the years we barely learned to communicate openly or to even fight with each other correctly. And so it was the minor things and unspoken issues that made us break up. Even though it was her decision and I was very desperate at first it also felt some kind of relief. This worked for the first year. I went out a lot, made a lot of new friends, had multiple short relationships, but never actually felt in love again. One day I even met a women on vacation I might could have fallen for, but we both realized quick that we are too tired for a distance relationship again. It has been three years since then. We are still in contact on a regular base, but have not seen since. Now it is almost exactly six years since the break up. My former girlfriend has moved on long time ago. She is married and has two children. Meanwhile my thoughts are still stuck in the past. Asking myself "what if". Crying myself into sleep almost every night. I hate for being that weak.

This movie shows us that sometimes we need to move on from a good person, many people start hating on each other after losing contact, but 5cm per second shows us that even if they were not meant to us, they might still be a good person. Losing a good person and knowing it's a big loss is sad, but realizing that you hated them after break up even though they didn't deserved it is sadder.

I know I’m super late but I just watched this movie on Netflix. Seeing this video breaking down the relationship between these two really resonates with me. I once met someone that became my best friend and I ended up falling in love with her. Ultimately things didn’t work out and 8 years later she is no longer in my life. She moved on with her life with a new relationship but even till this day I missed what we used to have. I moved on but there’s still feelings there for her I can never get rid of. Like Takaki and Akari I know we wasn’t meant to be and sometimes people served their purpose and aren’t meant to be in your life. It’s sad but that’s how life is and you just have to move forward. It’s like that saying “Right Person, Wrong Time” We’ll never see each other again but I wish her all the happiness.

As a teenager I was OBSESSED with anything Makoto Shinkai and Tenmon worked on. Every film anime and visual novel. 5cm was always my first and true love. It's been a minute since I last watched this and now at 25 I'm really starting to get it. What a masterfully done story and I'm about to read the light novel and manga

Unpopular opinion but maybe if he talked to her she would divorce her husband because that’s also happening in reality people only say it’s realistic because that’s how life works 💀😂

I first saw it in 2021 as I was reading about Shinkai's other works and I have never cried harder over a movie or TV show than 5cm per second. What makes this movie stand out is how it is so sad yet so relatable in life as it reflects the harsh reality of life.

This movie always had a very special place in my heart. To me, the thing that haunted me is how gut-wrenchingly real it is. It is just a pure display of real life. Life in all its blandness. Its a story about how life moves on. About how relation come and go, and that they don't have to go with a any reason, or warning. Life moves on, with or without you, and there is nothing to do about it. This movie is slow, not very dramatic, not flashy, it is just the story of two people who knew each other dealing with separatiion, in a way that feels discomforting real and painful. Thank you for this video, I too think that this movie is very underrated. Always has been and always will be one of my favorites move ever.

i always rewatch 5 centimeters per second every year. This anime will forever be my favorite movie. The story is solid, blend with great soundtrack and the reality mundane things hit it hard. So many cinematic scenes to take in. And i hate i turn out to be like Akari after 14 years.. :( Will always be back for this movie.

I have to start with saying this is the only comment I have ever written on a youtube video. This is one of the best videos, this has the best intro, conclusion, and explanation. The background music, animation quotes and everything else including the stories you chose are truly inspiring. I would enjoy to watch other videos like these with consistent quality, so please keep it up. I am telling you this for you, but mostly for myself. I saw the video about freedom which was also amazing. Anyway, I am sorry for yapping, and if you read all of this I want you to make a video about society and introverts. You don't have to, but I would like to know what I have been doing wrong. I know your videos are about anime and manga but the bigger picture is about something greater that we can all relate to.

Amazing video bro, I love this anime. When I saw it, I was in a situation where I left my home city, and a girlfriend behind to pursue a better future. She never understood me completely and barely answered me on windows messenger lol. Fast forward, it took me nearly 6 years to move on. She moved on quicker, on that time she did come to visit me like 6 months after i first left. But from there, everything went downhill, i cried for her, I got depressed but kept pushing on my goals. Now we are "friends", typical birthday and Christmas messages . But I'm with someone else, and I'm happy.

the nothing that lies after freedom is waiting for your intervention. Nothing matters, yet, it is the everything we have in our grasps. Freedom doesnt give you anything, you only receive once you take hold of it.

"freedom is nothing but the distance between the hunter and it's prey." Well, there is some truth to this although it's a bleak way to look at life. Yes, "man is condemned to be free" but even then we're restricted by certain circumstances, call them paradigms, societal norms etc. We're not completely free and it's a good thing. True freedom is just masked loneliness. Nothing lies beyond freedom because after it lies loneliness. So yes, run miles, eat berries, cherish love until the hunter eventually catches up to you. Then you just lie in the soft brown earth and be at peace, be free...meanwhile the world goes on.
