    Great video, Eric. It’s always amazing taking a rather mundane looking boxcar, and giving it character, through some judicious weathering. You’re so right about modellers taking different approaches to reach the same place. I’m a good example. I tend to start small and then work larger and thinner, finally touching up with rust that seems so pervasive in these old cars. I’ve been taking a break from the rail road over the summer months as I so often do. Soon I’ll be back at it though. Thanks for posting. Love the jazz btw, with the old Fender Rhodes, plodding along under the guitar. Take care, Brooklyn

    It may seem obvious, but wheathering goes with car age. Smart idea to watch built date on car versus the era you´re modeling. Ya sometimes less is more. Thanks to give some color to that drab box.

    I think no matter what scale you work at one will always try to add more and more detail. I work in Gauge 1 and you would think that would eliminate a lot of issues with fine detail, except you always look for new things to do. For example, It is a great temptation to add individual rivets and bolts to a model but no one tells you about the amount of time and dexterity required to do this. And for what? It looks great but most of the people who look at the models dont notice anyway. Stand back from your models…if it looks like a solid representation of the prototype then stop. You can then move onto something else on the layout. IMHO 😎

    • @ChicagoCrossingRR
      @ChicagoCrossingRR 19 часов назад

      Thanks for weighing in - I agree there probably comes a point where nobody but you can appreciate a detail on a model. I find that I'll still go that deep just for my own satisfaction, but I'm an odd duck that way and pretty selective about what grabs my attention to that level. :)

  • @danielfantino1714
    @danielfantino1714 2 дня назад

    Hi Éric, that 3 story brick 13:07 building with missing exterior walls is georgous with roof vegetation and roof trees growing We can´t tell if it´s under renovation or demolition. With that see through, just a bit inside, so much possibilities with crane bringing or removing materials, machines etc. Covered, smashed or intact windows, it can turn in an endless project, and at the same time an easy one goofs forgiving. I love those kinds of building with story telling behind. Complete, partially demolished or sometimes just the historically facade remaining with structural beams add on to keep it standing while being rejuvanated in a new construction project. Happy 4th of july celebration.

    • @ChicagoCrossingRR
      @ChicagoCrossingRR 2 дня назад

      I like that building too. I've thought about fabricating a similar structure and setting it above the track in the left corner where the 'tunnel' is. That would help resolve the idea that it's a mountain and more like an underpass beneath a structure. Happy 4th Daniel.

      Hi Will, I'm right there with you. I think there's a lot to explore in weathering and we needn't make all of our models look completely worn out. Thanks! I’m not sold on the pencils yet. The adhesion of the pigment wasn’t stellar and I didn’t have the level of control I anticipated with the oil can effect.
