I was asked to help locate a downed fly-away R/C plane in a wooded area. About 40 minutes of flying didn't reveal the plane. When I went home and analyzed the video, I saw the wing on the very top of a frame. I cross-referenced it with another shot we'd taken, and I was pretty sure we'd found it! I just picked up this game after finding your stream looks like fun. I have the same starter ship as you but it's not going very well. My ship is constantly needing repair. I spent a long time fix it and things appear to detreat quickly. The lates thing that is happening, the inside door of the air lock is in full repair. I go to buy an item at the supply store and can't get back in the ship because the door is damaged. The first time I figured I did some wrong, so I started form the recent save but the same thing keeps happening 3 times so far. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I not having fun!

Repairs and restoring under the new build take a very long time. Your best bet is to chip away at it as possible, particularly while travelling. One possibility--once something is "repaired," it needs to be restored, otherwise it is only at its very minimum condition before breaking again. If you are doing that, then it sounds like really bad luck. There's no dishonor in starting again, hopefully getting a better RNG outcome for things.

I see this situation on the NAVMAP where there are two copies of Venus - same with Asteroid that supports OKLG. Very confusing; glad you figured that out for me!! I think, in general, I'm only going to explore the Venus stuff in this build using lots of help from the debug console and insta-port - but not for a "serious" playthrough for me. I would like to pursue the cargo trading route in and around OKLG, however.

Delivery gigs are great when you start. You can get 700-1000 credits under a minute. It get's a little boring but you can get enough money in first shift to pay for license, tools and EVA suite. 30 min of running around KLEG and you have an easier start. But maybe to easy if you like the starting challenge.

I wish I'd thought of that when I started out. My very first experience with Gigs was not fruitful. Everything was off-station, so I didn't really even realize that wouldn't be the case until further in. And, I have a slight bias towards the character creation--it reminds me of Traveller, except you can't die. ;)

Just a little tip for anyone following the series as it was missed in this video, but on world generation if you press the 's' key it will open up the full world generation settings menu which gives you much more flexibility for setting exact parameters rather than the simplistic 3 generic sliders shown in the video.

You do not appear to have noticed - they added a throttle to the Maneuver Drive. You've been playing with it set at about 15% and that's hugely impacting just how fast you can accelerate using the RCS/Rotors. You need to open it up for faster acceleration.

I bought this game after watching your videos and I've played 40 hours in the last couple of days. Wonderful game, I got to venus and bought the OKLG permanent residency. A couple hints for everyone interested: 1: Before a long range voyage ALWAYS SAVE, pay attention to your course (yellow line) both departing and arriving at destination. If departing OKLG and arriving at VORB, check if the venus station will be on the outside side of the planet when arriving (away from the sun). The autopilot won't tell you if your course will intercept Venus and will happily smash you into the planet. if it is on the wrong side just wait a couple of hours before plotting and engaging your drive. 2: When approaching destination the autopilot will sometimes disengage prematurely, in that case I saved my ship by disengaging torch safety, pulling 3+g for a couple of minutes and then replotting the course (you need to be 5000Km or more from destination). You can do the last bit of slowing down with RCS if you have enough. 3: When the autopilot works correctly it will use RCS for the final approach (inside the no-wake zone), this is useful for VORB because of the strong gravity. 4: If arriving at OKLG from far away you can plot to an OKLG_NAV beacon and do the final approach manually, so you don't risk arriving on the wrong side of the asteroid. 5: Cargo pod trading is profitable, especially OKLG->VORB (it paid for my citizenship). The VORB->OKLG route pays less, but at least you cover the He3 expenses. 6: I'm not sure if it is supposed to work this way but while I died of dehydratation, I never died of hunger. Even when the bar is full hunger seems to never kill you. You need to drink a lot per day but you need a lot less eating. Also, drinking reduces hunger too so drink first, then eat if needed.

AUX airlock is useful. If you dock at AUX any ship you buy will spawn docked to the main one. However if you buy a ship while docked at the main one it will spawn next to the station in space, and drift into the planet.

The maroon circle around a planetary body is the zone of effect for gravity, there are ships to scrap near venus, but you need to have the tow brace, lock them in, and then boost out of the well so you have time to scrap them. That's the way to get aero parts without falling into the atmosphere.

Why not use the construction tools? The reactor is one piece when using the tool and you can easy plan out the entire build, until you are happy. Though the game does not like large amount of tasks, so don't do as me, plan the entire room, the reactor and the fuel setup, while having a few other builds going. Though I did found out that the fuel tanks work with cargo web and only need 3x3 floor under it. (The task break if say you pre-plan something without having all the items, had to save/load cycle over and over to get it past missing items, so it would go salvage the items.) Though you can break that logic with the builder tool, as you can tell it to do something, then change the blueprint and it can still build say a tank without floor, if you cancel the floor.

cell phones are fairly useless other than as a source of electronic components and working on your skills. A lot of the stuff zombies carry is still useful for training sewing too, for example. Since it's been some time, I'm sure you've found that yes, un-pulped zombies will revive (I think you can turn it off in the advanced settings). Alternatively, you can butcher them for survival training. Rather macabre, but it'll actually give you useful stuff. Wasps and ants brought me back to my nethack days. They're the worst. Part of it is that they have a poison sting that affects your ability to fight back. Not quite as bad as your melee skill levels up, and as you get some armor, but early on it's murderous.

Thanks for watching! I put the game down, as some other things caught my attention, and I've been working on those. I feel like this could be an interesting hobby of a game, but it also felt like parts of it didn't fit together very well. It's awesome that I can find stuff, repair it, use it (potentially), but some of the progressions to make that happen aren't very clear. 20 years ago, I could have put the time in to figure out a lot of the nuance on my own (and...we didn't really have a choice back then! ;) ). But it feels like a lot of what the developers are most proud of, in terms of newer updates, are the very things that annoy me, and it misses the sweet spot I'd hoped for. Others' mileage will vary. :) Never the less, the game is a worthy distraction!

My time playing Starmade is about to serve me well. As you point out, those are not just signal boxes, but also logic blocks. In theory, you can fairly easily rig a couple up to automatically lock down a compartment and it's air pumps if depressurization occurs, rather than needing a manual toggle. I imagine that there are other things you can do, like auto-switching to backup power with a lighting change to indicate you're running on auxiliaries and/or a power-saving mode that does the same with lighting, but also does things like shutting of the nav console and other non-essential systems when docked. I figure of they've added logic blocks, it's only going to be a matter of time before various sensors are implemented, aside from the current atmospheric sensors now ingame, to augment and diversify what can be done with them.

    • @hypegamer347

Tool vs Tool - which tools (such as Weber Laser) replace others and whether single-function tools are better or equivalent to the multi-tools. 3. As my channel grows, I might revisit that idea, with short, 5 minute edited down videos (I do edit these down, but I'm talking about serious editing). Ostranauts, at one level, feels ripe for that, but then I think about all the interconnected concepts you really need to understand, and it becomes a little more daunting. Time will tell!

You really should record a playthrough. Your familiarity with the game and ability to learn/explain would make a great rags-to-riches series. Either way, edited or real-time.

A video on how not to build the character that you will be using going forward. Interesting approach for a tutorial.

Some parts of the video could be cut. Waste of time watching them as you correct yourself and your spelling mistakes. 20 minutes of basic talk about building walls and floors, i think you could just go through the special stuff from the game (like putting floor under walls and stuff like that).

    Very mindful fuel, very demure.

Do you have a video about how to refuel? I pulled into the station and all my lights went off and the door doesn't work. I got it open but I'm not sure what to do from here.

I did a quick scan of a few of the videos where I think I'd have covered that, and I didn't see it. I'm almost certain I did at some point. Nonetheless, at 1:45 of this video, I'm walking to the Supplies desk. Between it and the Gig Nexus are two kiosks (on the east side). You want the one further north. You can buy N2, O2, and battery charge (as well as other fuels when you have a reactor).

@@TomTrustworthy Drag the sliders and it adds it to your bill. You want N2 for the RCS, O2 for life support and Energy for main batteries. Also when it is time to make a payment each shift, the Cash UI it mentions is asking you to click on your Balance where your money is shown.

@@DanielCoffey67 Yeah that 'Cash UI' message really threw me off a while. I'm looking through the PDA but nothing. finally i figured out about clicking on my money. It seems like i always have late payments which i dont understand. I pay it right when i get a notification usually.

I will say, and maybe data just doesn't exists in this version as technically I have just started and am playing on 0.14, but leaving that ship without at least taking the navstation was basically passing on what can sometimes be a cool 20k if you sell the station and its data on the black market. even with the normal selling spot its at least 10k in my experience so I'd say even if nothing jumps out at you take the nav stations, and if you want you can take thrusters too those are extremely expensive for how little space they take up.

Honestly without these videos I would have really struggled with this game. Keep up the amazing work and I really do enjoy these videos!
