When Mazda as a manufacturer can go toe to toe in F1 the pinnacle of automotive engineering then and only then can it be compared with HONDA. Commercial car comparisons are subject to market, competitor interpretation and corresponding budgets supported by those interpretation of the market. HONDA is clearly superior to Mazda. Comparing these cars does not do justice to the manufacturer capabilities which obviously HONDA has a longer and far more superior record.

Mazda has also developed the first rotary direct inject motor the next generation RENESIS (16x) engine. That engine is worth having doubts, but not the conventional 4 stroke cycle motor.

Just for some good knowledge. Mazda already uses direct injection in their 2.3L turbo motors. They started using direct injection since 2006 starting with the Mazdaspeed 6, again in 2007 with the Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazda CX-7. Since the introduction of that motor they've been using it without problems. As of the 2013 Mazdaspeed 3 model the motor is unchanged and continues to be used. So that is 6 years with a direct injection motor. I doubt the Skyactiv will have problems, the rotary engine? Maybe

Just wait till that first generation Direct Injection Engine starts having issues. Then you will be spending more money on the Mazda, which you would have saved on your fuel. Honda did try Direct injection 10 years ago. They stopped making it almost immediately. They have finally resolved the major issues with the DI technology. That is why I prefer Honda, because they don't put the risk on their customers to try out new technologies.
