I saw both nights. Amazing performance.
What the hell is up with claptons tone ???chourusing delay every frigen song????
Memories from long ago...60s to be exact. Italians and Irish had lived in the area, before the blacks from the south migrated to the area. My gf attended SH during this time. Thank you for the vid
At 1:42:50- Jimmy Page says "Remember John now!" during Stairway. 🎼 [RIP John Henry Bonham] 🥁
Ron Wood is so wasted here lol
So happy to see Ronnie Wood there !
Ray Cooper was just there I have no idea why he was so in the back picture to where you didn't even notice him unless a song 1or 2 but that's a long concert to not be recognized of potential
Ray Cooper was the Band leader - not the MC; Clapton accepted that role very well. I think Ray TORE IT UP ON 12-8's Show. Should the cameras have been following him from the ones he was part of? You've issues Friend. He was all over the place at the first MSG show & I think he was tired from the other nights. He's the Percussionist from Elton John's Bands- orchestra quality people not just some bitter guy focused on a Gent in a Tux working w/every piece he could contribute to. Do you grind your teeth in your sleep as well? Bitter? Sad. What we didn't notice or see in video POV was a perfect Percussionist on everything that he helped . That's a Pro.
Ray Cooper is acting like a little brat kid and no one hears him at all in the audience what an idiot he must be being payed a lot of money to act like a clown😅😅😅
Nice to be treated like royalty your just a guitar player no matter how popular you are your a human just like everyone else really no one special a talent that backs you up as all
Jimmy Page was pretty full of himself, I'd rather just hear him play. I love Page's playing but the hero worship is beyond me.
I've never been to another Stadium /Arena sized Show (of a hundred PLUS- easily) that had 3 MINUTES of Applause for 1 Gent before JP/they started their Set's first number; only on 12-8-83 & AFTER we'd stopped APPLAUDING. The Mics weren't up to the total applause each time Jimmy was seen walking out onto the Stage. I'd no IDEA the London Group came to close the Tour until this clip as an add-on w/ London's Players. It's NYC/MSG & it's the 'bottom of the 9th' literally. There should be a Boxed Set of London>>MSG (12-8+9-83). I should've stayed for the next one on the ninth as well! Ray Cooper added so much energy to each one he added to. He was on the Stage longer than anyone else & earned his seat back to London - that's a fact.
Omgbi dident knowvthere was video of the show I was there in 10th row
I love Paul Rodgers, but I think Steve Winwood sang on Jimmy Page's "Who's To Blame" a bit better.
Sorry, PR totally killed it, where Steve Winwood couldn’t hold the keys
stu was missed on boogie mama
worried life blues - ian STU sewart on piano
wow, I watched the whole video, I'm glad Jimmy played with Paul here, and I cried at the end when Ronnie Lane came out.
I forgot that Bill Graham did this that was Jimmy Page's first time playing for Bill Graham since the big fight in Oakland Coliseum where John Bonham and Peter Grant and John Bindon beat a BGP guy nearly to death Graham banned Zep which played last US shows days later in 1977
Led Zeppelin's manager was a bullying jerk.
I went to Live AID from Boulder, CO>MD (4Tix reserved & they'd called NBC4 News who cut out my mention of Zeppelin being my reason for going; I'd seen Neil Young & Willie in Sullivan Stadium (Patriots home field) a few months earlier but Willie'd needed a lyrics sheet for L.AID. The sound for everything else was fkg fine except for Zeppelin's. Hmm. Could Bill Graham have actually been that petty as to torpedo their sound after he'd Sworn he'd never work w/Zep ever again; even though no more Bonzo, Grant, or the Security chief- Hinton
Yes
Page's guitar tech let him down, 12 string out of tune threw him off
Dano also out of tune, Page's guitar tech terrible job
Time Mark 1:29:18 Even Jimmy Page couldn’t play that old DanElectro guitar without it going out of tune. And right in the middle of a song!, as he frantically waves more than once for his tech or someone, but as far as we can see they never come out. Luckily the song picks up and he can then omit playing the string(s) way out of tune and play mostly the low E. A & D strings which are still “close enough for rock & roll” as they say…😉…. Time Mark 1:54:37-end Clapton gives Page the cold shoulder treatment since he couldn’t stand Jimmy Page at this point.
It appeared to me like Eric smiled at Page.
All that wonderful British greatness together
Is the beginnng of this New York ARMS concert available? Can't find it anywhere!
40 years ago...was lucky enough to be there, what a show!
...was there...still have the concert shirt...seeing Page back on stage was cool...
God bless you Ronnie wherever you are!
I saw this show at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco, oh what a night. My husband’s bff stopped & grabbed me & a couple of our friends, my poor husband couldn’t get off work.. almost 40 years. The amount of talent on stage blew my mind, saw The Faces so many times in early 70’s, saw the Stones in 1981 & Joe Cocker on The Mad Dogs tour, & Jimmy Page with Led Zeppelin, but all of them together for Ronnie Lane and ARMS, fantastic, lucky me.❤ Seeing Clapton and Jeff Beck, 🤩
I was there, time capsule for sure.
Randomly looked this up just for the nostalgia (you can see me at 31:20 in the video). Definitely a trip down memory lane remembering all the awesome people and memories there. I remember your daughter Abby I went to both 58s and 447 with her. Wouldn't exactly call her a close friend but we sat at the same tables shared a few friends and did a few projects together. She was definitely among the brightest in every class she was in, you could tell she was going places. What I would do to go back to those times. You never realize how fast everything in life just goes. To think this was 10 years ago still baffles me!
Vau kakva ekipa, boli glava
I was fortunate enough to be at this show also , I was 16 lol.
Unbelievable. I got to talk to eric Clapton when i worked in los Angeles. He told me all about beck and page. Danny borderline delusion band guitarist.
JEFF BECK RIP.
A fantastic group of people for such a good cause!!
Gotta Love Ronnie!!!! Always the Character, lol!!!
I love the way Jeff Beck dedicated the song "People Get Ready" for the late and great "John Lennon". This brought tears to my eyes because I remember very well the night John Lennon was murdered. I was 21 years old 😔😢
3 rd row center. Ronnie Lane
Whoever played the drums for Jeff Beck is amazing! Looks like Tommy Aldridge but surely not?
Simon Phillips, one of Jeff’s frequent sticksman.
I was there) Friend of mine worked for Rolling Stone Magazine at the time, I've sat right behind Phil Collins
Count me in in the blue balcony and a hand held cassette. I went for Clapton and until recently forgot the great lineup other than EC and Ronnie. I've only ever cried for Lennon, SRV and now Jeff Beck.
I was at opening night of this monumental mini tour in Dallas on 11-28-83 center section row 3. Got pics of Clapton’s set but yes Jeff stole the show.
I saw both shows at MSG, Used same ticket both shows with a $20 bill not to tear the ticket on first night. Yardbirds get together was awesome. Jimmy Page and Paul Rogers formed The Firm at the time also.
Please help me, Jeff beck ft .... In the son people get ready? 58:25
I lived in suburban MD. I drove to NYC to SEE Jimmy Page in My life. No Tix but I found 1 at MSG avble. Jeff was up 2nd as you see, but before the very most thunderous applause I was part of that was the very LOUDEST, most SINCERE & SUSTAINED RELEASE of love & devotion TO THE GOD of Testosterone (& I was at L.AID for the ZEP reunion:Bldr>Dnvr >DCTV News-then to Philly) & Mr Beck put on the Best of all & that's including My #1guitar heroes of Jimmy & (& Buddy Guy uber alles). RIP MR BECK🛤️🥀💫
I was there ! Lots of memories and stories!
I wasn't at MSG, but I did see the last show on the tour at the Forum in Los Angeles. Absolute magic. Weird to think it was 40 years ago, and sad to see how many of those musicians are no longer with us - Cocker, Charlie Watts, and now Jeff Beck. But boy, you only get one go at life, and they spent it well.
I was at that show sitting in a box seat
I've seen dozens of concerts with these guys individually or with their bands. Never did I realize that the night of December 9th of "83, I probably saw the Best concert of my Life! The talent here is overwhelming! Please God, bring me back to that LIRR train from Massapequa Park to the Garden! Just one night from my youth when Rock N Roll was Everything! NYC GUY
Everything. So true!
@@carrollgardenshowie BTW, my father grew in Carroll Gardens, Born on Union Street! Moved slowly up the Hill to Park Slope!
I couldn't believe how screwy my friends were: school or work‽ I'LL DRIVE BACK TO MD, DROP (THEM) OFF AT HOME>WORK, SCHOOL(S). 'YOU'RE GOING TO BE SLEEPING IN A VW BUS ON A COMFORTABLE BED & BRING YOUR SCHOOL _?_ OR WHATEVER. ARE YOU PLANNING ON SEEING claptoN, BECK & PAGE, ETC- TOGETHER- NEXT WEEK SO ’YOU'LL CATCH IT THEN‽ ARE YOU ALL INSANE!?!‽ 'Welll, wahh...' HINDSIGHT IS WORTHLESS! ZEP CUT '77's TOUR DUE TO PROBS, THEN BONZO DIED- THIS COULD BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SEE PAGE, ANY ZEP ANYTHING- FOR EVER! HE DIDN'T EVEN PLAY FOR A YEAR OR TWO & THIS WAS A 'LET'S GO TO THE USA, RAPE & PILLAGE'; IT'S A BENEFIT RE RONNIE LANE'S DISEASE- ONLY 6(±) USA SHOWS & NO‽ ARE YOU ALL OK? WOULDA, COULDA, SHOULDA... [ & I WENT FARTHER FOR ZEP- L.AID: Boulder>Dnvr> DC/MD & called for directions to p/up the 4 Tix. NBC HAD A VAN W/A SAT DISH UP & 'HEY YOU WANT TO BE ON T-V ?' GIVE HIM THE 'POLITICAL', I'M GETTING THOSE 4 TIX IN HAND! IT TOOK ME YEARS TO REALIZE IT WAS A 'SET UP' BECAUSE I WAS COMING FROM A FEW THOUSAND MILES (& ROUND TRIP) TO SEE ZEP'S REUNION. I said w/the 4 tix- like (Look stupid-) "I CAME FROM BOULDER, COLORADO FOR THIS." 'REALLY?' "ARE YOU KIDDING ME; A LED ZEPPELIN REUNION‽ ARE YOU KIDDING ME‽ I WOULDN'T MISS THIS FOR THE WORLD! ('Viciously' serious) NBC 6:30 News cut out the Led Zeppelin Reunion part- 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME ‽ ✂️I WOULDN'T MISS THIS FOR THE WORLD!' We drove to Philly in the middle of the night & I taped it ALL- KNOWING WHAT MTV'D TALK OVER LIKE THEY TRULY OWNED IT. I HATE PHIL COLLINS - YOU CAN SEE HOW TONY (CHIC'S DRUMMER) WAS TRYING TO TEACH 'MR' COLONS THOSE BONHAM EVERCHANGING PARTS - THEN SHOOK HIS HEAD & PLAYED LIKE A PRO. I'M SURPRISED HE DIDN'T PUT THAT TROLL IN A HOSPITAL FOR MAKING HIM LOOK BAD! "THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T GO TO REHEARSAL." SEE, COLONS DIDN'T HAVE TIME ON THE WAY ACROSS THE ENTIRE ATLANTIC & HAD NEVER HEARD R & R, WHOLE LOTTA LOVE OR STAIRWAY! HE SAID 'IF I'D BACKED OUT, WE'D BE TALKING ABOUT THAT NOW." WTF- WHAT AN EGOMANIAC. NO, WE WOULDN'T & ZEP'D BE ON THE DVD. HE-COLONS ACTUALLY DEMANDED THAT GRANDE PIANO & DID 2 SONGS HE KNEW- A GRAND PIANO FOR A BENEFIT, A CONCORDE FOR A FOOLISH TROLL? AGAINST ALL ODDS & DECENCY. THANKS TONY {RIP}, [RIP MR. BECK]
@@guypalumbo7892 Well I guess so! If I was born on ANY Street, it'd take a while to get to Park Slope- fighting over a rat to eat as a Baby.. it's a hard, mixed up world...
Same, took the Mass Pk train with a buddy on a Thursday night to experience this gem of a concert. Lucked out, great group of girls sitting next to us at the show, passing doobs, cheering loudly at this epic show. Jeff Beck w Jan Hammer was everything I imagined it would be, and more. Ah, the memories!
Poor Jimmy looks he's high on heroin here.
Like the majority of the crowd ...I went to that show to see Jimmy Page... but must say that Jeff Beck was incredible...16 yrs old just started playing guitar...its great to see this again JEFF BECK LIVES!!!!
I saw them at the Cow Palace and Beck's set was insane.
I saw him in LA I felt the same way
Beck tore up at the MSG show. I drove from DC to see Page in my Life; the past deaths reminded me that the Future was uncertain. NOW is ALWAYS the time. It was the same for 'Live AID' in a weird way. Lil Phil RUINED the Reunion. YOU DON'T GET ON STAGE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR FIRST NOTE IS! I hate that little troll. I went to MSG for A.R.M.S. from DC. 'ticketless' & couldn't believe No Friends were going to 'risk' late to school/work & the lack of tickets was a weak excuse "I'm going & I'll be paying for the gas regardless. It's a VW van (Camper Bus), remember ? You (2-3) can sleep in the Back on a clean bed, rotate & even bring next day's clothes & I'll drop you all off at work/school or home. We'll get Tix!" Pathetic. Beck was strongest but most were there for Jimmy Page's 1st time playin' in USA since '77's Tour which was cut. My Ticket was so far away, I couldn't tell if it was Peter T or Ronnie at first: skinny, white long-legged pants on 12-8th (not this one- the 9th). I should've stayed. Live AID From Boulder, CO >DC/MD- 1/3 Friends drove me to the Ticket seller once I had the last directions & holding the 4 Tix for the next day in Philly for The Led Zeppelin Reunion (billed as "Live AID''). They'd apparently called DC's NBC4 NEWS because there was a news van w/ a SAT-DISH up & Reporter - "Hey, you want to be on The News?" "After I get my Tickets, okay." (He could wait). So my Friend/driving gave them the political words & then I told him that I'd come from Boulder, CO for this. 'Really?' I only recently realized that ticket agent had probably called NBC 4 NEWS for a little 'Human Interest' story & maybe to build up the call-in Donations for the next day in Philly- I think it was 1-800-LIVE AID- but I'm not sure. So they were there & waiting after I'd called for the last directions & deliberately edited out any mention of 'not missing a Led Zeppelin Reunion for the World' on NBC's 6:30 News! I was on & holding the 4 Big, Beautiful Tix; they did it just like ARMS; it gets the crowd in faster than deep inspection of traditional, smaller sized ones & to see if it's real or not (faster inspection/auditing). It was the same as for the luscious, liquid-like, colorful Programs, T-shirts. NBC 6:30pm cut out ANY MENTION I MADE of Led Zeppelin's Reunion & left: " I came from Boulder, CO for this." 'Really?' I wouldn't miss this for the World! [✂️ A Led Zeppelin Reunion? ARE YOU KIDDING ME‽ I wouldn't miss this for the World!"✂️] I somberly repeated that segment 'I wouldn't miss..' like a Man on a quest. I may have been invited to 'Celebration Day' if not for their editing. Who knows? I seemed like a 'We Are The World' guy - not unlike in that 'WATW' video w/Bob Dylan's close up of him mumblin' in the Chorus. THAT'S clearly hilarious. I hate Mr. Colons- I know it's not A.R.M.S. but the crowd's reaction was opposite as if: 'Huh? What's going on w/the Sound? What happened to the Sound?' I wonder if Bill Graham had actually torpedoed THEIR $ound/THEM to get back at them after Peter Grant, Bonzo & their own Security Guy beat his New Partner (1 Day in/out of the Concert Biz) into a hospital when he was 'rude' to Jason re a sign at their last '77 show in the SF Bay Area. Another time. "I'll never work w/them ever again!" That's why He wasn't introducing Jones, Page & Plant instead of lil phil,eg & that's ALL he should've done re Zep. He wasn't at A.R.M.S. either - hmm. "Friends"-?🤔
I saw them at the Albert Hall in London.Beck Page Clapton Stevie Windwood absolutely brilliant
I was there! The moment Star Cycle started in a pitch black Garden is forever burned into my consciousness! Thanks for posting. RIP Jeff Beck!
Jeff Beck stole the night at ARMS at the Garden & all other nights. But can you recall what a Rush of applause Jimmy Page recvd for >3 minutes of ROARING ADULATION before he even played? That was even LOUDER, more emotional than the L.AID ZEP Reunion that mr Colons RUINED (just for kicks)? I traveled from DC> NYC just to be sure I saw Page playing in America - not knowing what the future held. The Huge, colorful tickets & that luscious Program & the Tees for ALL ARMS' gigs & the L.AID event? For L.AID I went from Boulder Co>Dnvr,Co>DC|MD to p/up 4 Tix & was on the 6:30pm NBC news just for travelling that far & then from DC>Philly for L.AID. The NBC SAT dish was up & ready. I'd called for directions & they had apparently called NBC- 'A guy from Colorado's coming in to get Tix now for tmrw'! I had a few years to figure out that wasn't a coincidence. "I came all the way from Boulder, Co for this." 'Really?' "Are you kidding me? I wouldn't have missed this for the World; a Led Zeppelin Reunion‽ Not for the World. He knew & that's why he was waiting around at 5pm in the middle of nowhere. This was better but it was fun for all except for the Blues. No BB, Buddy Guy or Albert Collins. But Teddy P & either: Ashford & Simpson or Peaches & Herb & a few others- I don't recall- at LAID. Time J. Page at the various SF, LA, TX, NYC (& _?_) ARMS' Shows w/Beck BEST at each but due to the loss of John Bonham/ZEPPELIN, Page was getting his due condolences for that band & before he said a word, plugged in 1 guitar! All totally RIOTOUS, ROARING & AN ARMY FOR 1 Man's loss & representing everyone's own private losses. He could have ruled England w/The crowd in MSG'S walls! I'll never forget it. I can't believe my friends' giving up on such a great opportunity. I drove to & from, up to 6 more could've slept in a VW bus & been dropped off at work/school. A 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' evening & the hindsight is worthless but gee - golly... & on the 6:30pm NBC News was a plus for that time - even though they edited the "Led Zep" part out, it Led to & was only halfway from DC to NYC (±) to tape all of L.AID a few years later & a few short months AFTER I'd seen Neil w/the 'IH', The BAND, Willie Nelson, etc where the Patriots played- Sullivan Stadium. I get around, sure- lol (No thanks to china).* While this is edited & I'm glad to have it- Page got 3 minutes of adulation before the first few real notes! Never heard THAT before. 🚂on 🛤️ & Stroll on & in peace Jeff Beck! [RIP JEFF BECK]
@@davedillon1372 I do remember the thunder when Page hit the stage. As I remember it, it was his first time on stage at least in NYC, since Zep broke up. Despite his performance, the whole concert is something I'll never forget.
I thought I was Blessed to be there as that crowd/WE went wild for Jimmy. I was pretty far back so I SAW either Wood or Pete T 'cause of the dark hair & white pants. Look up the SF ARMS. Those guitar slingers shared that last 3 in 1 finale. I left thinking who's the new drummer for ZEP if-? Some guy named Simon Philips. Beck had Lasers & the best light show that night. YES almost went broke touring w/the first LASER show. I never loved being up front, having those follow spots burning my retina out at any show. Gee thanks for that; I liked vision but...
@@Twin_Hook Your memory is perfect. He'd put out the Death Wish|| sndrk & His- not first by a long shot- LP with Roy Harper 'Whatever Happened To Jugula?'. Totally different sound styles (& also Honeydrippers before Percy did those first 1-2 terrible solo LPs. He was trying to be a hot boy of some sort. It just made me feel sorry for him. I'd like to have seen Tony Thompson (Chic's drummer & ZEP'S for L.AID) just beat the living snot outta Lil Phil Colons- asshole didn't know ANY OF THE 3 ZEP #s(R+R, Whole Lotta _?_, & Stairway but managed to stick his muttly face in the MTV post set mini interview as if anyone gave a damn what that troll had to say! He'd been demanding & self-centered from the beginning: I want to do both London & Philly, a white, full sized grande piano (for the sappy sndtrk to 'Against All Odds'- the dumbest movie made re Daddy's Girl stuck in the castle & away from Jeff Bridges for eternity? Nooo!!! Say it isn't that simple & then he said he knew what he was doing re 3 famous ZEP songs. I went to Philly via Boulder>Denver>MD/DC for 4tix/held & they'd called a local NBC4 NEWS VAN to interview this guy coming so far & still DC>Philly for Live Aid- I did more for that cause than COLONS did by fkg the sound up. I'd love to have seen Tony beat the living _ outta him & his wee lil ego, costing LAID THE ENTIRE USE OF ANY ZEP MATERIAL FOR THE VHS, DVD, et al. I'm a nice guy but he deserved to be bleeding from the eyes on the date of his own death. For Colons NOT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY W/Genesis served him right at his end of a career. Tony T had said re L.AID & COLONS-'That's what happens when you don't come to rehearsal.' Everyone was looking around like- 'something or someone's playing with the sound board! This is all over the place!' Look up the YTube performance & see the drummer for Chic TRYING to teach Colon how to play Bonzo's tricks & patterns on the spot. He wasn't around the interview because he would have been arrested for attacking Lil Phil Colons- duly! I've heard from knowledgeable friends re Genesis that he was a truly, filthy little bastard at home! Thought it was cute or something like that. Pathetic & I wish him pain as he became mortal.
Luckily both Coasts were PROSHOT. I drove from MD/ DC - all my Pal's were more concerned about school, the weather, work. Those 2 to 3 full minutes of applause (& I think it was 3 not about 2±, it just wasn't mic'd until he was getting closer to the mic stand so it wasn't being recorded. I think MSG COULD HAVE SOLD OUT JUST BY PAGE & FRIENDS: BAD CO, ROY HARPER, XYZ's (Squire's weirdness by the time we saw it on stage; that's what experimental is, hmm? I don't think it was better than Beck's set/show - THAT was impressive & stole the show. That applause to Page was heartfelt condolences over Bonham. He could have done acoustic guitar & piano pieces & most FANS would have been happy with that, y'know? Hundreds of BIG concerts & I try to explain to people who think they were at 'better' gigs that he could have built an army of followers - Male fans roaring in sadness & pity- empathy for 3/4 losing more than 1/4th. It's not easy to convey in words. That's the most impressive show - from the audience's reacting, not the stage. Clapton wishes & dreams for that level of adulation. He was perfect for the 'glue' throughout the ARMS' shows. It's clear to me that crowd was there for 1 thin guy w/good tailoring & great 🎼. I hope his spouse isn't influencing him to be around for 'her', 'them'. I don't know where you are, but if you haven't seen Buddy Guy before (& even if you have) don't pass on the last opportunity to catch this guy. Hendrix & SRV's 'Hero' was Buddy Guy & I've never seen it elsewhere - people trying to figure it out, listen, study his work at the top points (’80-2021- that I know of) any night - he has a way to make people who are paying attention jolt & spaz uncontrollably out of a chair - like an epileptics' convention or hospital must be around. No body else. Cipollina, Albert Collins were close but... this is the last time & he's not any younger. TC
Holy shit did I see Ian Stewart on that boogie woogie piano?
The LA show had Joe Cocker's keyboardist, Chris Stanton
Saw the second Dallas show at the late great Reunion Arena from the second row front and center. Eric and the band plus guest were skin tight while Jeff Beck and his band completely tore the roof of with his usual incendiary playing and Jimmy was very slo
Jimmy was very sloppy.
The version i saw of this concert in San Francisco was Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer, Jimmy Page/Paul Rodgers (later to become the Firm) and the headliner was Clapton/Joe Cocker...
Joe was in fine voice you could tell that he was singing You are so beautiful to his girlfriend ...... He was living up above Santa Barbara and has met the woman who would become his wife. Clapton was still smoking working on getting a raspy voice and hopefully not any kind of lung tongue or throat cancer other than that he was playing really well and having a great time I have to listen further the comment on the other musicians but as I recall this was an incredible concert. The arms concert was held both on the east coast and the West Coast....
The ARMS concerts mini tour opened with two shows on November 28th and 29th at the old Reunion Arena in Dallas Texas and I was center section row 3. Got pics of Clapton’s set.
