Tip: How to export Fusion360 components with fractional units
I create rectangular frame from metal profile 40x40x2 using revolve. How to calculate cost of it in OpenBOM? I don't want to waste time creating 4 profiles separatly)

How do you control part revisions? Let's say I don't want to just come in and edit the properties of a SKU but I want to update it's rev and the info (price, LT, etc) associated with it without losing out on the rev history. I want to be able to take a holistic look at a certain SKU and see how its price varied over a year for example and be able to see if a certain price spike or drop was directly associated with a revision change.

How to generate the item number?
This is a good option for getting them to fill in qouting information but I would also like to be able to filter what items in a bom they can see. That way if I share a bom with my laser cutter then he will only see the flat file parts and nothing else. I dont want my vendors seeing the full bom with all the other parts. Primarily this is to eliminate confusion so my vendor only sees the parts I want him to quote on. I understand that I could create a "flat file" bom for the laser cutter and a "hardware bom" for the hardware but that seems like a lot more work.

I'm confused why it's a 2 step process to export the BOM from Inventor to OpenBOM? Why can't the Inventor BOM be exported and create any and all part item masters while generating the BOM multi level structure to match the Inventor BOM? Also, if an item master in OpenBOM already exists, I assume it won't duplicate it?

If you modify a part it will be uploaded when you do a sync. The previous one can be stored in a revision.

Is it possible to connect OPEMBOM to Teamcenter so it extract Bom Tree, 3D, PDF drawings from there automatically? We use Siemens NX and Teamcenter

I was able to create my initial BOM and then I changed a dimensional parameter which adjusted the dimensions of my parts but when I run openBom, it still show the old dimensions. any idea what I am doing wrong?

I would suggest to streamline the process ) User expectation for collaborative design: - define the portion of Product you are going to work on; - open product tree in PLM; - lock the parts to your name, instances and references (+ documents) if you have those entities in your workflow; - right click on product portion in PLM and send for modification to your CAD system, user does not need (want) to know that there is local cache somewhere; - CAD changes done - save directly to cloud via openbom addon save button, no hussle with manual operations in windows explorer.
Dmitry, What you described is available today in OpenBOM Team Subscription. However, this video is for a simpler product (OpenBOM Design) that is available for FREE for everyone.

@@brianredbeard I wonder what you see as a poor alignment? OpenBOM is a service name. It helps engineers and manufacturing companies to manage their data and simplifies communication. I understand from your comment you're trying to find a connection to an open office or open source. While I certainly understand your association, the word "open" is reserved to open source. There are many online services that use the word open in their name (eg. OpenTable, OpenParking).

It would be nice if you would make a video showing how to install it. Ive installed it twice now and nothing is showing up. Maybe it doesnt work? Might be easier to do the bom manually than try to figure out whats wrong with this program.
Thank you for your comment and sorry about your problems. The install is simply run the installation downloader. If something doesn't work, our support would be happy to help you. Autodesk discontinued Eagle, so some of the things might not be possible to resolve, especially when running Eagle in a new environment. Also, we are going to introduce support for Autodesk Fusion360 Electronics, which is a replacement for Eagle.

In your demonstration, the Inventory Cost isn't calculated correctly in row 1. It should have been Cost x Quantity on Hand = $20.63 x 10 = $206.30. However, the example shows $235.80 as the calculated value. What's causing this error, and how can we avoid it?

It’s from 1:00-2:04 and 4:13-4:45. Also, at 3:07 the demonstration shows that for row 3, Purchased Item was checked and the price is overwritten to $8.00. However, at 3:30 when the formula for the Total Cost column is edited and saved, the manually entered $8.00 price gets overwritten by the rolled up price of $5.05 (even though Purchased Item is still checked). I'm not sure if that's intentional, but that could be frustrating for users who have manually overwritten several values and expected the "Do not Rollup condition" to exclude their manually entered values from recalculation upon saving the formula edit.

What is your view on part revision vs. new part when you're in the development phase? Engineers do not wanna go through the process of creating new parts regardless of whether it's form, fit or function change or not.
You can either revise the existing part or create a new one. The key is to define rules of interchangeable revisions.
@@OPENBOM well from a supply chain perspective, they'd want a new part number when it's not interchangeable. Problem is engineers say I'm still in development and don't want to do that. So a new revision could mean a fit, form or function change or not.

@@ramezattia7415 your engineering should branch out and create a new pn when they dont respect the 3f. its important to enforce that because it could cause chaos at a later stage when the product is in production and in service. What I do when I face this situation is that I add a note in the revision history table that mention that this new design is based on the part number xyz.
