    If stuff is moving away from us faster, then the speed of light, how is the speed of light the fastest thing in the universe??

      Galaxies can seem to recede from us faster than light because of this stretching of space. The speed of light still governs how fast anything can move locally through space, but it doesn't restrict how space itself can stretch.

    So if it is moving so much faster then most other asteroids or comics then does gravity have less effect on it because of its speed and inertia?

    • @spacediscoverry
      @spacediscoverry Месяц назад

      Great question! Actually, speed and inertia don’t reduce the effect of gravity on an object. Gravity still pulls it the same way, but because it’s moving so fast, its trajectory curves rather than pulling straight down, which is why it stays in motion rather than crashing

    • @The147.s
      @The147.s Месяц назад

      @@spacediscoverry excellent explanation! So if there were two objects with the same mass but one was much faster than the other both heading on exactly the same trajectory for a different time say show me the fastest one would have less effect by Gravity

      I just read that "Some theories suggest that anything caught in the beam, out to a distance of around 200 light years, will be vaporised." With some more research, I read that "A gamma ray burst within about 10,000 light years directly hitting the earth could trigger a mast extinction event. It's not that life gets irradiated by the gamma burst that's the issue. It's the atmospheric changes these burst set into motion that will be the issue." Other sources I've heard state that a GRB has to be at least 8,000 LY's away for it to have a survivable impact on Earth.

    Isn't there a way to send several ships out into space? Drectly toward Beetlguese. When they get a quarter, or maybe a third of the way there. Or maybe even closer. They could open large deflector arrays, and lock together. Or at least group into close proximity of one another. To create a kind of sheild, to absorb alot of those cosmic rays. Sort of like a giant umbrella for the earth. The closer they get to Beetlguese. The more of the cosmic rays that could be deflected away from the Earth. I'm no t a scientist, but it seems plausible to me.

Betelguese may not supernova any time soon, it may just be going through an instability common when massive stars are on the instability strip. Even if it did go supernova, earth is far enough away that nothing would happen to us. Smarten up.

      Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star in the Orion constellation, about 642.5 light-years from Earth. It's massive-around 1,000 times the Sun's size-and nearing the end of its life. At some point in the next several thousand years, Betelgeuse will explode in a supernova, becoming as bright as a full moon in Earth's sky. Recent dimming events sparked speculation about an imminent supernova, but it was likely caused by dust and surface cooling.
