This can be done in a lived-in home too?
Yes, but it is more work. How much more work depends on the situation. We recommend talking to a local contractor to review the situation and see exactly what the preparations would need to be for your home.
Did my house in Vancouver. Big difference. What I noticed first was temperature consistency throughout the house. I think we were leaking initial air leakage was 5.04 and went down to 0.92 which was a 81.7 % reduction Thanks guys
Nice! That sort of improvement (or greater) is what we find on all of our envelope seals. I'm happy that you're seeing a noticeable before and after difference !
@aerobarrier my home is already completed. Has carpet, lights etc. I am interested in better tightness. Can this be done since I have more than just drywall? No furniture (we just purchased the home, a 2023 spec home build).
This can be done on a completed though it is easier to do earlier in the construction process. I highly recommend reaching out to a local representative (aeroseal.com/find-a-pro/) to get a better idea of what they can do with your home!
my biggest concern would be longevity. While i can see this being enormously benificial, the only pitfall i can imagine is that as the house creaks and sways over time, these tint gaps which are filled slowly re-open. even if it lost 50% of its efficiency in 10 years this would probably still be worth it, granted i dont know the cost, but i cant imagine its not too expensive for a project. really reaaly cool technology, and very smart!
Thanks, we are extremely excited about the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of Aeroseal envelope sealing. In regards to house movement, the sealant is actually quite stretchable so only the most extreme movement should cause any problems. At that point, I think there would be other concerns to worry about!
I'm getting second hand smoke from the light fixtures and outlets. Can this help with that?
I'm assuming you're in an apartment building. Most envelope sealing is to separate the outside air from the inside air but, properly setup, envelope sealing can be between units in a building as well. If the secondhand smoke is coming from outside, then yes, this will help though you'd also want to consider air intakes for your HVAC.
@@aerobarrier Yes, I live on ground floor and smoker(s) lives above me. I just got Aeroseal for my ducts today. They sealed it up until about 5.5% leakage apparently and said it was the best they could do or the machine would damage with too much pressure. The technician said the problem is also between the walls, not just the ducts because he too could smell the smoke. What solution is there for that? I live in Washington DC if you know any good contractors here.
Cost?
Hi there! Is your question regarding the cost of the equipment or the cost of a seal project?
How much does 1 sealing station cost and computer software minus blower door. How much caulking solution does a typical 3 bedroom home and what is cost of solution? Here is the issue I see with this system. 1. it has or best done during construction phase this immediately rules out any existing homeowners which is about 95% of the market on any given day who live in their home. However if you sold a single sealing station to homeowners or DIY types they could do this process one room at a time without having to move everything out of their home for example I could clear out a bedroom for a day mask off any horizontal surfaces pressurize just that room and seal it. move items back into room and proceed to the next. Sure there will be some spillage from the solution infiltrating other parts of the home but it wouldn't be enough that couldn't be cleaned off easily or cause an issue. It might also be nice to use a handheld spraying unit like they use to atomize cleaning agents so a person could walk around and direct the fog/mist and known trouble spots instead of filling an entire home or room with mist. (with proper PPE of course) 2. this franchise system is holding back this technology which looks really good however a system that address the above problem needs to be addressed. Now a couple questions: 1. In the videos I have seen you compare this to latex caulk what is the expected lifespan of the product. We all know latex caulk isnt the most durable product and dries out and cracks. The problem is if your product dries out and cracks its basically worthless. Have you done any type of long term testing. Gone back to the first house and redone a blower test years later? Any issues or loss of performance? 2. As to the clean up based on the videos most if not all is only on horizontal surfaces and is a result of the excess mist that is left in the air after the sealing is done then settling on horizontal surfaces. If the home/room is opened and immediately evacuated sucking most of the mist out wouldn't that greatly reduce or eliminate the sticky residue issue? 3. In this video it only shows the sills (horizontal) surface of the windows getting protected. Wouldn't the entire or moving parts of a window need to be masked off? The problem I see is the potential for the solution being forced into all the nooks and crannies (leaks) of a window assembly (no window is 100% leak proof) so you do your air sealing and next day your window is glued shut... Hopefully one day your product is available to the masses it looks like a great product even though I am concerned about long term stability but would still buy in if it was available to individuals so it could be done room by room without the need to move my family and everything I own.

Had this done to my new-to-us 32 year old home before moving in, and gladly the results exceeded our expectations, going from ~8 ACH to ~0.8 ACH! There was some clean-up, but nothing serious. So glad this sort of fix for an older home that "breaths" is possible, since paying contractors to crawl around my attic and basement would have cost more and likely been less effective. We installed an ERV system for fresh air of course, now that we have a better-sealed home. We have also replaced our windows with triple-panes, so we'll probably have another blower-door test done by my local utility to see what kind of results they get this time around, vs. before the AeroBarrier application. Should be interesting!
Thanks for sharing your story!

Do you ever foresee expansion to the UK? 🇬🇧
Tom, I believe there is a company called Oakwrights now installing AeroBarrier in the UK. I'm not sure if they are servicing their own projects exclusively, or if they are taking on outside projects.
They are now in the UK
Any plans on expanding to the UK?
Love the product guys! Question, is this applicable to a completed home?
Alejandro, existing homes can be sealed with AeroBarrier but the process in much more in depth. I am a dealer on the east cost and we have done a few existing homes. I would suggest reaching out to AeroBarrier directly to find a dealer close to you. You can then speak with that dealer and find out what their capabilities and requirements are for working with existing homes. Good luck!
@@claytoncolleran I appreciate the advice!

Wow impressive to see in the Infared!! Can i ask how much sealant did you use to get from 9.33 to the 3.66

when will you bring this product to the uk!?
Thanks for sharing the thermal images!
This weekend we took a NC job with Zip-R before the insulation from 8.82 to 3.32.
Does the house interior still need to be painted?
Can this be done in finished log home?
Such a great product🤙
Thank you! We appreciate the kind words!
I’m having a house built and found this product and just yesterday “convinced” my builder that we need to do the Aerobarrier. Looking forward to working with Gary from AirTightHomeTech in Ottawa. Thanks again and I know this will be a great investment :)
Thank you for letting us know, Kristopher! Let us know how it goes!
@@aerobarrier 1.5 ACH to 0.7 ACH but waiting on the final report! Was hoping to bring it under 0.6 but oh well tight enough for a non passive or NetZero house :)

Can you do this to a house that has already been built? Would I have to remove my furniture/electronics?
amazing !!
do you supply in the uk?

Can you please advice if a house built in the 80s can get aerobarrier? If so who can do it for me? I live in Ontario Canada. Thanks.
We can service older homes, but you will want to consult your local AeroBarrier dealer for more details! aeroseal.com/get-a-free-quote/
Crap, I just watched Jordan Smith use this application and thought, if Matt says this stuff is good, we may have to make a last minute change. Wow this is awesome!!!
why do you do it after the drywall is up? why wouldnt you want to do it before the drywall is up?
We used Aerobarrier on existing home and got from 13 to 2 ACH. Tim Twomey, BESC, Inc
Hey Tim - did you have to take off the drywall and go down to the studs?
I live in zip code 33331 (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). I visited your website and learned you have no dealers in all of Florida. The closest dealer to me is 600 miles away. Why no dealer in Florida??
Dealers are independent contractors. They probably just haven't had anyone in Florida contact them and become a dealer.

We need homes sealed in East Texas! Please help!
How long will it last and can you do it with drywall
Hi Nicholas Landolina -- AeroBarrier has been tested by a third-party lab, revealing that our X1 sealant withstands a simulated 50-year durability test, with little or no seal degradation. It can also be applied at any stage of the build process, from rough-in to finished drywall. thanks for the questions!
Just used the AeroBarrier system in NC for new construction. Cost was $1.00 per foot for a 2700 sq/ft ranch style house. Used the zip 2.0 system, started at 4.7 ach50 and in two hours got to 1.0 ach50. Very pleased with cost and final blower door results.
That’s pretty damned impressive!
I heard this is $4 a sq ft. If that is true most will not use it. I'm doing a renovation and would like to use this but with a 2K sq ft that would be $8K
Hi Minni -- The price varies by partner and depends on several factors, but AeroBarrier typically costs around $1 - $1.50 per sqft. We recommend contacting your local AeroBarrier partner for a free quote. You can find your local partner by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
Everyone is aware that this is just caulking, right?
Yes. But you can’t caulk air leaks you don’t know about. When they pressurize the house at least this is able to find all the random nooks and crannies and fill them.
So? It's micro-caulking.
Can this be used in/on a finished home? How much clean-up would there be afterwards?
Hi evanconklin -- Great question, We do not recommend using AeroBarrier for retrofit applications. We are currently developing our system and undergoing testing for this application. There is also very minimal clean-up after sealing and our expert team of AeroBarrier partners are responsible for this. You can find and contact your local partner by visitingaeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
@@aerobarrier I was wondering this, I'm trying to convince my builder to use this during rough-in but worse case wondering if we can do it prior to "moving-in". So no furniture but would have finishes?
How do I get in on this technology? Is this a “Franchise “? I live in a “Historical Home”, and crack and leaks are an ongoing thing! I would LOVE to have our home “AeroSealed” like this. I have seen this done with the HVAC ducting about 20 years ago. I SOO NEED this!
Hi Raul DeMoura -- AeroBarrier is a great application for historical homes! you can find your local AeroBarrier partner and their contact information by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
Hello Matt, would you recommend this in an older home (1972) currently being lived in?
Hi Sean McGlothlin -- AeroBarrier is a great application for older, leaky homes. Although, we do not recommend using AeroBarrier if the house is occupied. You can find and contact your local AeroBarrier partner by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
Can't wait for this to b readily available. Big key here is to bring in the fresh air like an erv
Built tight and ventilate right !

Well I'll be a suckeggedmule if that don't beat all. I'm totally redoing our 120 year old house, torn down to studs, attic, crawlspace now, ready for insulation. Wanting to go with spray foam. I wonder if spray foam insulation seals up all the cracks? I'm thinking it does, but this stuff is different than anything I've ever heard of. What, spray foam now on that house?
Hi Taka Yama -- AeroBarrier and spray foam work very well together. After insulation is installed, you can contact your local AeroBarrier partner by visiting aeroseal.com/aerobarrier/dealer-locator/
