How to Choose the Right Horse Bit
The bit is just a part of the equipment that allows the rider to talk to the horse.
- The Side Pieces of the Bit
The rider should choose the bit's side rings (side pieces) according to how he actually uses his hands. Is the rider soft in hands, concerned about his horse's capabilities, or heavy in hands, and his demands are high at any given time?
If the rider softly uses his hands while riding, no matter the reason, he may need the help of a Pelham to transmit his mild commands to the horse's mouth adequately. He should choose a soft Snaffle if he has "heavy hands" while riding.
