A great fan of Steiner but my choice of favorite is Bernard Herrmann.

Absolute rubbish he looked awful for months before he died....

I am a huge fan of Steiner, as I am of so many of his fellow "Golden Age" of Hollywood composers. I have a very great fondness for the film music of David Raksin. (Laura; The Bad and the Beautiful; etc.)

I remember watching Joseph Kripps conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra years ago.

A Beautiful soul.

She speaks like a child. A child prodigy.

His 1958 Schubert 9 with the London Symphony Orchestra is superb.

I have his Beethoven 9 on LP and it's super!

Krips was a superb director. One of the best representatives of Viennese style

What a wonderful interview from such a lovely and kind lady. These stories are priceless for us that love and play the piano. I can't imagine taking lessons from Hofmann and Rachmaninoff and to be lifelong friends with Bolet, Barber, and Cherkassky. WOW!!

I believe that Hofmann had an association with some families in Aiken , SC where I spent much of my misspent youth. This was in the 30s and 40s I think. Great interview!

Vol. 20 of your Decca Conductors Gallery box is wrong. It is a replica of vol. 21. Are there any way to correct this?

I still remember your recital in Taipei more than 30 years ago. Thank you, thank you!

Vol 1. is on the way to me! :-) (Vol. 2 next month.) I don't know which is the old remastering by Wilma Cozart Fine (stated by the video) but I have many old CD mastered by she. Biggest problem with these is that they somehow failed to manage digital volume levels and they are much or less overloaded in the loudest passages. It is clearly a mastering error. I don't know why they didn't see this. It is not always audible but it is clearly visible in a sound editing program. New remasterings by Thomas Fine are fine. (I have the earlier Kubelik box.) Eloquence is one of the best reissue company in my opinion. My biggest problem with these collectors editions (not just by Eloquence bu almost every company) is that they never reproduce essays included in the original releases. They were essays about the works, and sometime other informations about performers. If collector like myself have original releases, I can't fully replace with these new nice boxes because I loose original printed material.
