First of all, THANK YOU for the beautifull and clear instructions of your videos. I'm browsing accordian video lessons and found your's most suitable. My name is Ina Booyse and I am from South Africa and nearly 70 years old. A comment of a 76 year old lady learning the accordian, inspired me. My father bought me at the age of 16 a Hohner 80 bass accordian and a vinyl record of local accordion player NIco Carstens and told me to learn the accordian "playing by ear" from the vinyl record. I went to boarding school to finish last 2 years of school and leaving the accordian at home i learned myself piano "playing by ear". Finishing school the accordian stayed home while i studied. Again I learned myself piano by looking and listening to other girls in the school taking lessons. Later in life i learned box guitar and organ the same way. I never had enough money to take lessons and when online lessons became available in South Africa i've raised my children and between them and work i never started and finances were tight. There goes my accordion - sold😢. My husband bought me a piano and a box guitar when i was in my forty's because our youngest daughter showed interest in playing the piano and the my box guitar. I never learned to play any of these instruments proffessionaly and only for my own entertainment. Now my girl is married and the piano and guitar goes with her. A week ago my husband surprised me with a very old 120 bass Scandalli accordion, but i cannot find information on it to identify the year model. Still in good shape sounds good although my ear hear it needs a service AND I NEED TO LEARN NOW how to play it properly. At my age it is a heavy accordion but i sit down on a back support chair. I an exited but still not note-litteret and still "play by ear". Where do i start?. I will try and include a picture of my accordian.

i have 5 rows and a normal key thingi im new to akordeon and i cant find any notes for a 80 button akordeon so i have 5 rows each 16 pistons long can somebody help me

I started on 12-bass at age 8 like you, and transferred to 120-bass later. I later got a converter bass to be able to play Bach Inventions. I wanted to play only classical music, which was NOT what people (in my area) wanted to help as r, so I started playing piano instead. I HAVE taught accordion occasionally, but now have 4 ADULT accordion students --- NO children (yet)! I've taught mainly piano for decades. Thanks for your EXCELLENT video! I learned a LOT about the different types of bases. I'd never heard of the 3/3! So, are they like C-E-? (I was looking for the 8-bass configuration, since I'd never heard of that before and may be getting two little girls (sisters) on an 8-bass. I saw that configuration, but it looked backwards from what is on my accordion. Please --- what is the "B system" of bass? I'm VERY interested! Thanks so much!

I played piano and I couldn't manage to get the keys right until I set it on my lap, ran through the song with it in a piano-like position, then put it back on.

In Brazil - if I am not wrong - the accordion with club system is called gaita de ponto

I am left-handed. At age 9 i started with a piano style12 base left hand accordion. Practiced for a year and stopped. I am considering playing again. My questions are: Do you have lessons for left hand. What bass # should I start with. Where can I get a left handed accordion.

be careful when you play esp a full size acc do not stand when playing sit on a chair or back problems will happen as it happend to me it ruptured 2lower back disked now i am paying for that and can not even walk normal.

I'm not asking for medical advice, but I have developed pain in my left shoulder. I've been playing for only 7 months. I play a Roland accordion. I have a theory that perhaps I had the volume too low and was overworking the bellows to get the sound. Problem is, since I only have a digital accordion, I don't know how loud or soft an acoustic accordion is for a given bellows pressure. It only hurts while closing, not while opening. Anyone want to chime in?

Thank you for posting this! I appreciated the explanation about the 4/3 vs the 3/2 fingering. I taught myself 20 years ago and used the 3/2 method, but ran into the problem you mentioned when I learned about the alternating bass method. I haven’t played much in recent years but I have been trying to start it up again. I wish I had started with the 4/3 method because it’s been super hard to use 4/3 on the songs I learned years ago

On button accordions: Most bayans, especially older ones from soviet times, only have three rows of buttons, so stripping the mirrored rows. Another thing is that I recently learnt that accordions from the balkan area are usually laid out like a european 5 row button accordion, but with a duplicate 6th row on the outside. media.musicshop360.com/7832/scancrosupbalk.jpg

Well Patricia, I just signed on last week after playing the accordion for several years in elementary school and now playing for perhaps the last 9 years very recreationally....now you tell me to operate the bellows before I press a note or after letting a note go .....That is Earth-shattering news to me...thank you very much....I am still looking through your website and considering further commitment. I just picked up a couple Horner accordions, ones a 120 bass and the other is a 12 bass. The 120 is very old and needs some love for sure but I’ve been having an absolute blast on the 12 bass. I really enjoy corridos and corridos tumbados music I would love if you could post some instructionals on some techniques used in that music on accordions.
