Occult Detective Magazine Art
I have worked with, first, Occult Detective Quarterly, and later, Occult Detective Magazine, since its inception, supplying logos, artwork, and stories. Very proud of the work I've done for them, but more importantly, I am appreciative and proud of the work John and Dave have done to keep things going since Sam passed away.
Occult Detective Magazine is an amazing testament to what hard work and perseverance can produce. If you enjoy occult detective fiction, then Occult Detective Magazine is for you.

The Long Cut (Jeff Tweedy/Uncle Tupelo Cover)
I wish you and your family a blessed Yule.
Happy Holidays, Bob.
One of my favorite comic issues ever.
Although I always pronounced it as Bay Leet (Belit).
One of mine too, naturally.
Nice cover Bob...how long have you been playing guitar?
Thank you, sir. Been playing 41 years, give or take.
Have you read "Magical Ritual Methods" by William G. Gray?
I have. Another inspiring classic from the 80s.
That sounds brilliant 😊
It’s equal parts wonderment and nightmare fuel.
Thanks for the recommendation, it sounds great!
It really is.
I bought a “Ghostbusters” movie one time, and when I got home, I realized it had been stolen out of the case.
Well that sucks
Kenneth Grant? 🤣
Not a fan?
@@occultdetective Ah, I was to a point. My opinion has changed over time, but I sort of think of his stuff now as the Nitro-Fueled Funny Car Thelema, which is already so niche the humor is instantly lost on most. Also, I think most of that stuff like Grant goes full-on Dungeon Master's guide post Carroll.
That’s a lot of its charm for me. 😉
@@occultdetective I love that^. "Charming" it is for sure. I remember the books from Grant with the same fondness. Since you bring up Charming, how about W. Bloom's "Devas, Angels and Fairies"?
That’s a book I haven’t thought about in a long time. I remember thinking it was a great update on Manly Palmer Hall’s writings.
Blade….YES!!!!!
A perfect movie.
@@occultdetective There can be only one Blade!
@ #truestory Though I have a Blade II story I’ll share with you sometime.
No Hellblazer? Oh no, wait...
I actually liked the Constantine movie and put it up there beside Conan the Barbarian as a great movie but a terrible adaptation.
Creepy......I liked it though......
Thanks. Dreams come in many different flavors. This is my preferred...
Hey Bob, just saw this. I'd be down. Two caveats...I'd have to figure out the mechanics and secondly (the big one) finding a chunk of time. But it sounds fun.
I already had you penciled in ;) And the mechanics are second nature. We didn't reinvent the wheel.
I recognize a lot of those covers.
Classics.
Wow. That was deliberate.
No kidding.
Great montage Bob!
Thanks!
Awesome video, Bob! Happy Friday the 13th!
Cheers!
Awesome video. Atmosphere is fantastic! Well done!
Thanks. We put a lot of work into that music.
Would be fun to see some of the BookTubers play _Delta Green_
I have something similar in mind.
Sounds good. What RPG did you have in mind?
Leaning toward a streamlined version of my own - The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game
@@occultdetective When's it coming out?
Early '25. We're putting together a Free Quickstart to get into people's hands before launch however.
@@occultdetective Look forward to it.
As long it’s not like the movie “Wargames”
Now you've given me an idea...
And a huge hit to TSR and DnD! And interesting story Bob!
It really was. Huge cultural shift.
Occult Investigator please investigate the current satanic movement within the board of education. I do not know if it exists in other states, but it's a damn fact in the state of West Virginia. When I think back, I am surprised I survived after all I've been through. I was forced to forget many things; however, things come back to mind from time to time.
I would be interested in hearing more.
@@occultdetective They believe they can live forever, but it involves taking the life of another person. It is a religious science cult of some kind, and not all identify as satanic.
Nice to see something on RUclips about it. I bought one at random on eBay one day.
It’s a fun little book.
I'm so pleased that you put The Devil Rides Out on your list. Many modern readers haven't heard of Dennis Wheatley but wow, he was a masterful storyteller and, as you say, he researched real life magic rituals and knew his stuff. As for The Witching Hour, that's another rabbit hole for the horror aficionado to fall into! I love Rice's (early) vampire titles too, but The Witching Hour really does have some wonderful and creepy content.
Thank you so much. We are very much on the same page.
Ah you got one more in you!
Ha! Maybe. Just maybe.
I look forward to the next final book haul of 2024, Bob. 😉
It’s a sickness.
Nicely written and nicely read Bob!
You are far too kind, my friend.
I have 3 of those. The Holy Books, which I KNEW you'd pick. Me too. Outer Gateways, and The Golden Dawn.
Ha! Cheers.
The Elephant does not "recreate" the D&D experience, it CREATED the D&D experience.
True point.
Are they different covers?
No, just the Parrillo
Nice! How many copy did you get?
6
Do you have my house bugged????? .... I'm actually going to talk about Appendix N next week! (Zelazny - in the original DMG). Great stuff and video Bob!
Ha! We must be psychically connected. Looking forward to it.
My first encounter with D and D was the introductory version released in the UK under license by Games Workshop, around '78/'79 (?). It only allowed for progression to third level, if I remember correctly. I also had the original edition of Warhammer (three rulebooks in a box), and a first edition of Runequest. I gave them all away, which, in hindsight, may not have been the smartest thing I've ever done.
I have fond memories of Runequest.
@@occultdetective The Ducks were a bit of sticking point for me.
@@parazatico9030 Ha! That was an odd choice.
Hey, Bob. I was just letting you know I just ordered a copy of “Vampirella: Dead Flowers.” Looking forward to reading it.
Much appreciated!
10. The Amityville Horror (Anson) 9. Hell House (Matheson) 8. House of Leaves (Danielewsky) 7. A Dark Matter (Straub) 6. Haunting of Hill House (Jackson) 5. Dracula (Stoker) 4. The Shining (King) 3. The Devil Rides Out (Wheatley) 2. The Witching Hour (Rice) 1. The Exorcist (Blatty)
That’s a damn good list.
Great shots of the wind in the leaves. Very evocative of the mood you were going for!
Glad you thought so. I try to do what I can with a shoestring and a tin can.
@@occultdetective You and me both!
I actually like that perspective. It definitely makes sense.
Art and magick have been synonymous from the beginning of human culture. Arguably it is how culture developed in the first place.
@ Writing always did seem to have a magical quality to me.
@ same
Interesting perspective, Bob. I guess making videos is magick then, eh? 😉
aaaaand 3 more books go on the list! lol.
Knowledge ain’t cheap 😉
Beautiful scenery and reading!
I love winter. We are snow covered… at least for a little while.
What do you think of the idea of Monads ?
The Monad as the totality - that first thinker of thought - is one I can abide, but I have no desire to return to it, that cosmic ocean from which we are all but a drop of water from. I would be my own sea.
@occultdetective Interesting, because I just listened to an audiobook of Brother of the Third Degree by Will Garver. Dealing with secret societies and the intiation, it hits on reincarnation etc. It's a work of fiction with hidden truths according to some. I mentioned it because in the idea of Monads you may be coming back a few times since you personally said you'd rather not go back to the Singular Monad. One last thing. Finished your book today. Very good stuff. Looking forward to the Cairnwood novel you mentioned.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
All I'll say is...Yes.
Sic, cum opinione.
I like it! A very different Deep Purple cut!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
So awesome!!! Am I wrong or at the end is it walking towards the camera? That freaked me out.
Oh yeah... it's walking toward the camera.
Interesting stuff Bob! I enjoyed the review!
Thanks, man. Hoping to get back to some fiction soon.
Great review video, Bob. It’s funny that you should feature a book about Anubis as my novella “The Anubis Stone” was released a few months ago if you are interested. The author name is Josh L. Dean, and it is now on the Jeff Bezos site that starts with an “A.” (Apparently, RUclips doesn’t like me to type the name of the site).
Thanks. I'll give it a look.
Purchased. Love the premise.
@ Awesome! I appreciate it!
Love it! I’m a huge LB fan too and this is one of his best I think
Couldn't agree more.
'It's messy and not very good, but that's what we do here'.😂 For what it's worth, here also...
Tribe.
Never heard of this book . I’ll def check it out
It’s a good one.
