    The mentor part of the program is great in theory but one of my kids is doing this program and has had several (not just 1 or 2) no shows by more than one mentor. He's emailed for help multiple times. Not much support/help in response other than a "sorry".

    Hi Jacqueline! Thank you so much for making this video - I'm between Springboard and DesignLab but I really love the on-demand mentoring offered by Springboard. I'm currently an Astrophysics Ph.D. at UCI looking for a career change so if I go through with this, I'd try to do it while finishing up my current research project so it'd be a big change. Questions I have: - How many hours would you say one would have to realistically dedicate to finish in the 9 months? (I'm nervous about balancing my remaining research with the work load from a boot camp) - Also, if you need to take longer, do you know if they charge extra and if not, do they cut you off from the lessons/resources after 9 months? - One thing that worries me is how all of the students' portfolios will look cookie-cutter as you said. Do you know if leadership at Springboard is ever open to students doing other projects in place of the ones they offer? My family owns a restaurant with a Wix website but I was thinking I'd love to redesign it using what I would learn. Apologies for the long comment! Hope you can answer my questions - thank you again for making this video. I hope your career is going well! :)

    The material for the course just comes from other resources online. The career coach help is nice but depends if you want to pay X amount of money for mentors.

    I graduated high school a couple weeks ago and think of doing the UI/UX bootcamp as an alternative to going to college. Do you think I would still be successful in finding a job without a degree and using this bootcamp as the main background in my portfolio to get a job as a UI/UX designer?

    You’re not at all affiliated with Spring Board? I’m considered a career change over to UX/UI And I really want to know if it’s even worth it… I heard a lot of employers have a stigma against Bootcamp’s so I’m wondering if I should even invest in taking one. I was debating between design lab & Spring Board, but Eventually decided to go with springboard should I Decide to invest in a Bootcamp

    • @ohgeezus2

      I am not affiliated with Springboard! The stigma from bootcamps is that they sell the idea to students that they will easily make six figures immediately out of graduating (you maybe can depending on your geographical location), students produce cookie cutter portfolios, and students assume that they should easily land a job bc of their certification. If you demonstrate continuous drive to learn (continue to work on real life projects after graduating) and create a non-cookie cutter portfolio, I don't see this being an issue.

    You have to make portfolio projects your own. I can see what you mean about the stigma around bootcamp. I recently took a course from School of Motion and was looking at reviews first. Many hiring managers said the quality of work was higher, but all of the portfolios were the exact same.

    Hi! I'm a college student about to graduate next month with a BFA in Graphic Design. I've worked on multiple UX case studies and am currently working on my portfolio. Even with that, do you think that I should still go for the Springboard bootcamp? My main motivation is being able to add more to my portfolio, the mentorship, and career assistance. But then, I know you mentioned in another comment that you wouldn't recommend paying $7k for more schooling. Would you say the same for my situation?

      @@user-vk2ei5ze4y I know you're asking the OG commenter but I wanted to say that I'm currently taking the Google UX design cert. That's the direction I'm gonna be taking just because it's much cheaper. Hope this helps.

      There were a couple of designers to one company. I didn't work with the other designers though because we all go different parts of the app to work on. What do you think about a bootcamp vs grad school? Arizona State University has a MS in User Experience available completely online. It's two years part-time, and it'd be $20,000. Bootcamps are generally shorter and cost way less, but you start out at a lower pay. I'm thinking about taking a boot camp, so I can get a job in the field, then get my employer to pay for my masters. I want to help make technology more accessible for people with disabilities, for minorities, or if tech doesn't come naturally to them.

    Hi there! I’m considering Springboard and wondering if I should take the Intro to Design course first? Would you recommend or know someone who is happy they took this first? Nervous about pursuing this career without any type of design background. Thank you! Love your content!

    • @ohgeezus2
      @ohgeezus2 3 года назад

      It looks like intro to design is more for giving you a taste of what the full UX UI course entails. The topics they touch on are topics that are as well taught in the full UX ui course. I would say If you are uncertain then I say why not but then again there are free introduction courses online already. And I don’t mean free courses on how to use figma or sketch. However I’d you are certain of this career I would just skip the intro course altogether, they teach you enough design fundamentals so that you don’t need a design background.
