My mother told me that back in the 30s the only people who rode motorcycles besides cops were soda jerks,theatre ushers,parking lot attendants,bellboys,delivery drivers....

Wow! I had to look long and hard to find a chubby guy like myself. There was one at 2:24 and another @5:12. I loved seeing all the happy people; being in the moment with family and friends. What have we done to ourselves?

Wish I could have lived in California at that time. I moved there in 1990 after alot of damage had been done but when it was much more liveable than when I bailed in 2020

The smog was terrible back then. Anyone who lived after the Air Quality Management District was established in 1976 doesn't understand how good we have it now. As a child in the sixties outside L.A., we had "smog days" when the air was too bad to go outside to play.

Super. A friend of mine turned a reel mower into the back wheels and motor for his go cart. He removed the cutting blades and just bolted the reel mower to a wood frame, seat, and crude steering wheel made out of a record player turntable. It only went about 10 mph max, but it was fun, and we wore the tires off of it, and a Radio Flyer wagon hitched to it. The funny thing was, the wheels of a reel mower only engage in one direction, (The more you know) to make turning easier, and freewheel in the other direction, which made for a great way to have a differential on a solid axle, and get two wheel drive at the same time, but it means no reverse, and no engine brake. When we got on the steeper hills, both drive wheels would freewheel going forward, and you could easily go super dangerous fast downhill, and full time two wheel drive going forward would get you back up the hill, but learning to drive so you didn't need reverse was interesting, even though one kid could move it fairly easily. 💙 T.E.N.
