My name is Garry Newman and after 34 years of government service I find myself retired and seeking adventure and enjoyment in life.
My traveling companions are; first, Brenda, for whom I could not ask for a more compassionate, caring, fun, loving person to spend this segment of my life; second, our rescue dog Harley.
I post videos of my and our exploits for our family and friends. I hope to inform and entertain, never to demean or shame unless I am making fun of myself or the situations I find myself.
Enjoy the videos on this channel, like and subscribe if you would like to see more. Click on the bell to receive notifications of new postings.
At this period, all of my videos are filmed using my iPhone 14 Pro Max and various low budget action camera. I have now switched editing software and videos are edited using LumaFusion.
As if October 24, 2023 We have gone full time and looking forward to the journey... Wish us luck.

@@RetiredGunNut Congratulations, have fun with it… when I was working on mine, it’s all I wanted to due… unfortunately a norrow road in Kentucky and a cement truck ended my build. I decided to not build another… enjoyed it while I had it.

🤠👍👍👍👍👍
It's a trap.
Hello is there a bearing in there
Have a MCI bus 5B model with a 8v71 what are the two belts horizontal going to i don't have those on my.
They go to the squirrel cage fans for the radiators... How does your bus stay cool?
I’m having some trouble figuring out what the smaller contactor by the house battery does on my 2013 discovery. Would you happen to have an idea? Thanks
I believe the smaller relay is the combiner relay that connects house batteries to engine start batteries when you push the button on the dash to combine those battery banks, It's a momentary relay to help jump dead engine start batteries. My best guess...
That relay your mentioning is the bigger one. There’s another smaller relay to the left of it. The control wire has a constant power on it. I had the wires removed when converting to lithium batteries and now trying to figure out what this second relay does. Was hoping that maybe you came across it at some point.
@@davidchernioglo7177 I just converted my house batteries to lithium as well and both relays in my bay were removed... just guessing here again as I had National Indoor RV do my conversion but they installed another device they said was to protect my alternator. It cycles on for 15 min then off for 15 min when the engine is running...
Question.... How did that system work for you? I'm in a situation where I can't put my black tank directly under the toilet. It is what it is, but I wanted to see if.that setup worked well for you
It did work well… I was working around walls and floor height issues… just make sure there is a slight downward slant to your pipe… there’s usually enough water with a flush to move solids along.
Welcome to my hood😊 Next time you are through the area, check out Monahans white sand dune park, Balmorhea has the world's largest spring fed pool, Junction has free hookups at the bank of the Llano river for overnight with a great breakfast cafe within walking distance and then into my neighborhood, Lost Maples park, Frio river is a clear running river where you can get underwater photos, Potters Creek is the best camping spot down near austin and San Antone right on the shores Canyon Lake etc. Went to Sul Ross University at Alpine, didn't know about there being a new campground nearby, I will have to check it out. For star gazing, at Fort McKavit there are star parties where Nasa scientists bring many telescopes for public viewing, and McDonald observatory is one of the best anywhere, with solar views during the day and fruendly staff that will turn that big puppy to close up view any planet or formation you desire (saturn was what I wanted to see, changed my inner picture of Saturn forever) thank you for sharing, and have a great weekend 😊
Been watching your videos originally because you helped us with our MCI conversion. Happy to see you are still posting. Awesome find on this camp site.
Thank you Rick - yeah when I lost the bus it has taken me awhile to get my footing... Glad to see someone is watching... We are now full timing and I've moved my videos to more a sightseeing trips with music... Thanks for reaching out to me... Appreciate it.
If you are still at Carlsbad, check out the wild caves, no admission fee and there's hundreds, with live formations and no guide...just hang out all day and enjoy ❤
Thanks for the recommendation… we are in Phoenix now, will check it out next time we are through there..
Not as impressive as Sonora Caverns just down the road, it's like walking though a palace of geodes... Thanks for sharing 😊
Looks like a cool place!
Have the starter rebuilt by a good shop. It’s time
Twenty minutes to air up?way too long should be less than 1 minute.
There is nothing like soaring in the big beautiful blue sky. Oh, how I love to fly. I absolutely love how the two of you are living this chapter of your lives.
Very Nice. Look like to me there was parts on the old NAS Alameda.
great vidio many thanks
Did you ever find out what was causing the bus to shut down at a relatively cool temperature? Were the sensors set too low? My bus can run well over 200 F if necessary but usually sits at 190. My thermostats kick in at 180 I believe. I have a high, low, and off on the automatic fan. The door to the rad is also louvered which blows a lot of air on the rad at highway speeds.
I had the radiators completely gone through and it still shutdown on me… I’m assuming it was a bad sensor that needed replacing.
What year is your bus and what engine does it have? 6V92? i have aluminum rims and they are fine. The tires have balance beads and it seems to work well enough.
The bus had an 8v71 engine… unfortunately the videos you are watching was a trip I made out to California and while coming home through Kentucky on a very narrow elevated road, the right tire fell off the pavement and into a ditch and tree I went… the bus was totaled.
Thats terrible news. I just came across your series this week and have been watching every day. I hope everyone was ok and I hope you get a chance to enjoy bus life again soon.@@GRNewman
Do you know about Scott Crosby, aka Bus Grease Monkey, in Centerville Tennessee? He is an expert on older buses and GMs in general. I wish they would put more height signs on the bridges. Its my huge fear being around 14 feet high. I saw in your last video that your engine runs at 150. That is really good. I run about 195 and that can go up a bit on big hills.
Love your dogs. Like the bus and the scenery. Bus RVs are a bit new to me. I got my first one - its a Prevost. Been enjoying some trips around Alberta and into the mountains. Hoping to cross Canada on my summer vacation. Subscribed.
More ice cream…..
Looks like a pretty cool place.
good stuff
Excellent
How much ⛽ did it take to go from va
Virginia to California is about 3,000 miles… I averaged around 8 miles per gallon, about 375 gallons… at that time diesel was about $4.00 per gallon. 375x$4.00=$1,500
Yes, I can sleep soundly tonight.
In 98 we took a 22’ 5er to Alaska for a 4 month trial. Wife said if we want to go full time we need a larger RV, bought a 33’ 5er, sold the house and put only the things we really wanted to save in storage.v (I have 2 railroad boxcars on some property). Then 5 years later the 33 was too small, went to 40’ 5er. Nice then went to a 45’ prevost with a 30’ stacker trailer. Then in 2018 after 18 years of full time living wife became ill. Alzheimer’s started setting in. We sold everything and found a condo near daughter and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each day is a trial. Plan to upgrade the rv you have and save for emergency repairs. We traveled all summer and stayed at a resort for the winter. Keep a log book (journal) of your trip, you won’t regret it. We also kept a list of the rv parks we liked and site maps of goo spots. Buy the book The Next Exit, it shows each exit on the Interstate Highway System. Good luck.
Thanks for the nice comment… very interesting to read and value your experience… we too had a 33’ 5er and move to class A… we have done a lot of RV camping and feel this is not too far a stretch for us… Hope you can get back on the road someday…
Nice.. liked the fade to black at the end.
Heating element? Thanks for the update. 26:54
Ok….now I got an itch in my brain……how can I get a benefit if I got to wonder about the electrical heating element that’s not there? Is the motor home trying to tell you it’s not safe in cold areas and wants you to move South? You need to fix this soon for my mental health.
No dollar tree hose for you?
Nice ride. You do have to watch out for other vehicles don’t you. We are on a cruise right now, taking time from my boozing, buffet visiting, and napping schedule to watch your video is a testament how much I enjoy your projects.
So your VPN is working for you? Cool!
good editnig- have a great day!
Never saw that before GR.
The rattle could be your bones. Good to see you where allowed to use her tailgate as a workbench.
Nice drive. About the new handbar, sounds interesting. Maybe put a GPS mapping so I don’t get sea sick watching you go around in circles. Beautiful trails.
What type of issues did u have with Va DMV for tags from a bus to an RV?
Sorry, been on the road… no issues, I bought mine in Canada and it was already titled as an RV… just provided bill of sale, Canadian title and license fees.
@@GRNewman gotcha thanks
I have an 82 crusader 2 be nice to chat with where u got parts.and pieces from
Most of my mechanical engine, wheel parts came from US Coach in New Jersey, Lucas there is awesome… knows these buses inside out… and, other body parts Chris Newton. He parts out buses…
@@GRNewman Great thanks...I am at the demo stage and taking all tid bits of encouragement at this time
im sorry, i couldnt watch the whole video because of the stupid annoying noise that you call music
your gear grinding is your RPMs are off
Why does it grind when shifting?
It’s not a synchromesh transmission… so the splines need to be aligned perfectly to mesh together…
@@GRNewman I kinda thought that,thanks for the answer,have a safe trip.
Nice job Newman…. Knowing you, and and your desire for more lightning, these lights provided a welcome solution for more lighting- because knowing, you skylights in the roof was next.
Very Nice.
Good info.
We just bought our 1975 Yellowstone Park Co. bus it's a MC-5B too. It has been setting and it was low on fuel and then it ran out so I have to prime it and was just searching to see if it had a type of primer system already on the fuel lines somewhere..
I don't have the bus any longer and don't remember a primer system on it... guess you could crack a line going to one of the injectors and let the pump push air until fuel comes out... other than that, when I changed fuel filters I just filled the fuel canister and screwed it on... never had an issue with prime...
I wasn’t in the area.
Nice timing Newman - first to talk about ice cream and you go straight into the clear pipe for dumping smooth
You can blame the camp store for that, they were right next to each other so clearly there must be a cause and effect…
