Gypsy Davey in the Banjo
Просмотров 66Год назад
A little “Gypsy Davey” on the banjo tonight on the back patio. I’ve emulated the playing style of Scottish banjo player Sam Shackleton, and took the lyrics from him and merged with some lyrics I found passed down from the Ozarks (Missouri) in the 1800’s.

Tried Busking for the 1st Time

I wanted to say I did it at least once in my life. Next time, I think I might stand. I feel that my singing is a tad better and projects in that posture. Really grateful for the encouragements I received in Lititz though!
Shenandoah: A Banjo Farewell to My Grandmother

A farewell to my Ah-ma whose funeral was today in Taiwan. Such gratitude for what she has meant for the family. Prayers and love from other side of the world. It’s been 16 years since my wife and I last saw her …

I remembered to let you know Steve at Stone banjo just uploaded photos of my banjo into his custom gallery, banjo #11122. Check it out, I couldn’t be happier with the build
I think I found it! Is it the one with the neat inlay of mine script coins from Kentucky? I’m glad you like it! Post a demo! Lol
Somebody has been working hard on the banjo, My Stone banjo arrives Wednesday, Yippee! Steve said it will be a while until he gets it in his webpage gallery, he has made 6 new banjos.
Do you have a tone ring in your Stone Banjo? I have one on order with wood tone ring but have no idea if it will have good volume-projection not having heard a Stone banjo in person. Thanks
Yes, I believe it’s a teal tone ring. Open backs won’t have the same projection as one with a resonator. I work at a school and have pulling the banjo out in a cafeteria full of kids. It will be hard for them to hear the banjo without a microphone. On the flip side, they tend to quiet down just to listen to the music (which is kind of the point anyways). On the other hand, I do love the woody tone, and a bit of what I like to describe as a “growl” when I’m playing it hard. Also, without a resonator, this banjo is so much lighter, so I’ve enjoyed taking it to practice in the woods and other outdoor areas. Enjoy your banjo! Would love to hear what it sounds like!
Hi Steven Steve at Stone banjo Is just about ready to begin building for me a 11 inch banjo , cherry rim ,maple neck, ebony fretboard Is yours a 12 inch, I can’t tell? What is your banjo gallery number on the Stone banjo site He will be gluing up mine in two weeks and I look forward to having it. Take Care
Hey there! Yes, mine is a 12 inch! Gallery number 20026X. I’ve really enjoyed it. Up until this video, I’d been practicing Clawhammer on a 1979 Epiphone with a resonator. I’ve been itching to play on an open back and this one fit the bill for me. I’ve gotten much more used to the banjo since then!
🔥
Enjoyed your playing, getting ready to order a Stone Banjo
Nice
Dude, nice! :o
Nice banjo from Stone Mountain. Nice playing and adaption as well. Thank you.
Hi Steven, Your playing sounds great. I am a fellow Pennsylvanian and I am in the queue for a stone banjo. I like the tone of your banjo. Can you share a link on the stone banjo site to your specific banjo? That would give me more information as I fill out the spreadsheet for my build. Warmest, Tom
Hey there Tom, thanks for reaching out! First of all, Steve at Stone Banjo Co. is great to work for. I actually just made the last adjustments to the banjo and it sounds much better. Long story short, I realized that my banjo neck was too straight and actually needed to tweak the truss rod a bit to eliminate some of the buzzing from the strings onto the frets. Just posted a new video (simple song) to demo the banjo after the tweak. Here is my link: www.stonebanjo.com/sold/20026-x Just know that Steve take a lot of pride in his craft. For the value and for the sake of supporting a local maker, I'd buy his banjo over something like a Deering or Pisgah. I never met him, as the banjo was delivered to me, but I really do hope to make it out to his part of the state to see his workshop one day. Best wishes on your banjo build. Post a video of your demo when you get it!
@@stevenlin83 thanks so much. I am in Easton. My wife travels to Lancaster area for work. I am looking at walnut neck. And 11” rim, but darn, your banjo sounds so good! And your singing too! I appreciate your sharing your your banjo. I’ll definitely share once I get my banjo in. No hurry here. I feel confident with stone banjo and Steve. I just want to make sure I make the best choices for his build. Thx!
