    Love the truck and hate the transmission. A failed joint concoction from Ford and GM, 80,000 thousand miles and the 10 speed transmission failed. A very shafty drive train warranty of 60,000 miles forced me to purchase a new one for $8500... RIDICULOUS.

    I have a 2019 XLT that I am getting rid of. I bought it new Nov 2020 so have had it for just over 3 years. 57k Km's or about 36k miles. Warranty ran out at 36 months. So far after the warranty period, I had to replace the rear brakes, just normal hwy/ city driving. I also had the blend door issue crop up whereby I had no air con on the drivers side. Now, if this would been just an actuator issue, it would have been a cheap repair but the entire top of the blend box needed to be replaced which constitutes a dash removal to get at the blend box. Cost $1500.00. When the brakes were replaced we found that the rear axle seals were leaking. Also my windshield needed a replacement which is another thousand bucks as there is no aftermarket shields available up here yet so the windshield has to be purchased from Ford. No my glass insurance does not cover road hazards. So total for all repairs is $3150, $1000 windshield and camera recalibration, $650 for the brakes and $1500 for the blend box issue all out of pocket at less than 40k miles. I have now traded off the Ranger for a much more reliable Toyota product. I liked my Ranger but came to have serious doubts about the longer tern reliability. Transmission issues, as well as the blend door issue are well known on this truck. I didn't want to get stuck with a very costly transmission repair or replacement with no warranty left on the truck. Hope you have good long term reliability with yours.

    Nice video. Leaning midsize over 1/2 ton. Buying at the end of 2024. I am not brand loyal. All midsize trucks are on my radar. I tow a 2,900 lb camper, so all midsize trucks, properly equipped, can tow our camper. I am more concerned about payload (camping gear, topper, tongue weight, passengers, etc.). The Ranger is one of the better midsize trucks in terms of payload. I want 4WD, but I don’t need a high trim off-road model. I would lean XL/STX package or an XLT.

    • @AdamKlawonn
      @AdamKlawonn 6 месяцев назад

      Yes. This was my *exact* scenario as well. I went with the XLT package because I wanted power heated seats (Colorado) and better re-sale value. I looked at the towing/payload stats. I looked at all the Consumer Reports info on every midsize truck. That T10 transmission (co-developed with GM and also used in the F150s) is like butter for hauling. Went with the Ranger.

      It’s good. My son is big for 12yo, fits back there well. I sat it in the back before I bought it and found it to be comfortable. (I’m 6’ tall, 200 lbs). Also has a 12V outlet and USB in back of middle console for devices back there. Cup holder in the middle of the back that flips up/down. We have two dogs, and that’s when it gets tight. So, I’d say 2 kids is fine, small child can ride in middle. Or 1 kid + 1 dog. After that, it’s tight. Hope that helps.

    FX4 suspension is great off road but too bouncy for me on road, MPG i get 24-26 mpg, heat is different temp on driver vs passenger when on auto (ford said this is "normal"), i tow 5k lbs camper great about 13-15 mpg while towing. Oil change is a bit annoying taking out those plastic clips in fenderwell, currently i think my thermostat is stuck open a bit and my ford dealer is the type that if no engine light is on then nothing is wrong (they are idiots). Steering wheel can be kinda slick on the xlt, stock fx4 tires dont have much traction off road, ford recommending synthetic blend over full synthetic in 2024 for high boost engine is dumb, wish back seat was a 60/40 split or something to get into storage while kids in back. 4x4 low is so easy to shift into compared to clunky lever of a jeep. Wish it had dual injection to prevent carbon buildup. Started off hating the auto high beams but now love them on back roads. Power is really good. Transmission makes me want a manual at times (can be annoying) but todays manual transmissions have too much rev hang due to emissions. Brakes are the worst not that it doesnt stop but they are kinda mushy and dont have a good feel to them. Hate the auto stop start but easily turn it off every time i drive and there are options to permanently delete. Ford app for remote start is crap. Works probably only 70% of the time for me. Seems like an app from 2009. Still with the mpg power towing payload and value i think this is the best midsize truck

    • @NoCoADV80521
      @NoCoADV80521 6 месяцев назад

      Well said! Thank you for bringing this up, and I should have included these. Oil change is a bit clunky - the clips, and having to remove front wheel for access Brakes are a bit mushy - had someone look at this outside of Ford and they assured me it’s functioning normally Autostop/start feature and Ford app - Clunky, but can turn off the auto stop/start feature with pushing a button. App seems old school and constantly updates, but it’s a Ford, not a Tesla. Rarely use the app anymore. Excellent value and performance for a midsize.

    I'm always a bit surprised by how many people can tolerate those tightly-tapered Hoka toes. My toes are built for more of a classic Altra shape. Why waste a nice wide outsole platform, when you could use it for some toe mercy/comfort ? I'm sure there is some contrary "performance" argument to be made for the narrow crowd, but my dollars will almost always reward a less torturing toe. It's not always extreme Altra for me, but a wide Hoka-like sole, without the needless toe-squeeze from the upper, makes much more sense to my feet.

    Good review. My experience matches yours. I started out trailrunning in the SpeedGoat 4. Great shoe, loved it except for the stack height. I'm a new runner and don't pick up my feet has well as I should. I tended to trip a bit but otherwise really enjoyed the pair I had. When I went to get a replacement pair, they just didn't fit well for some reason (dyes maybe?). The shoe rep talked me into trying a Lone Peak 5. Once my toes splayed out in that toe box, I was hooked. My foot is similar to yours, not a true EE but wider than a D. These were a perfect fit out of the gate. I found the LP to have a much more natural feel on the trail. I trip a LOT less (hope I'm not jinxing myself there). I also like the rock plate as I tend to run on rocky terrain. My 5's are retired now and I have a pair of 6's I run in for trail work. Still loving them and my 5's have been converted into house/lawn shoes. That's how comfortable they are.

      Couldn’t agree more. I’ve also noticed some tripping and I think it’s the instability of the taller foamed shoes. I feel more “planted” in the Lone Peak pair. Yes, that toe-spreading feeling won me over right away too. Cheers.

    Hokas are great for > 100 km if you need some cushioning, but even with the wide fit I have to go up 2 sizes. I use Topo as I like them better than Altra, but I put Hoka in my drop bag in case I need them..,

      Good to know. Thank you for sharing the info on the Topo brand. I’m posting a link here for the rest of us. www.topoathletic.com/ These are some beefy trail shoes! Which do you prefer?

    Thanks for the clear description of the differences. Since I have wide feet and prefer low profile shoes I now know which I will try.

    New subscriber here. Just tried on the Hoka Speedgoat and am pretty sure it in size 11.5 W is my next trail running shoe, but doing my last stretch of research before pulling the trigger. Thanks for this video!
