Really enjoyed your tutorial as I have always preferred the squared off look to yo-yos. I have your approach a try and found it impossible to pull the threads around each corner without breaking my thread. I followed your instructions including which side of the fabric to point my needle at each corner. Any thoughts on what I could possibly be doing wrong? Would love your input. Thank you
thanks for your question! Are you using an upholstery weight thread?
It doesn’t say upholstery thread on the bobbin, but it is definitely a heavier, weight thread, and one that I have used making the traditionally round yo-yos. Do you think that’s what is causing the problem?
@@michelelaube8794 that would be my first guess. I use upholstery-weight thread, single (not doubled up.) If you try that and it doesn't work, send me a video of what you do and I will check it for you.
Lovely twist on the yo-yo! Squares are easier by far than circle and will make joining a breeze! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! I really made the video for me to remember how I did it and to explain to my kids if they ever wanted to do it, so not great quality, but it seemed to help a lot of other people too! Presently working on a gorgeous quilt that will literally never fall apart. The squares make everything so solid!
Too much background noise
Hey there - I actually only made this video so I wouldn't forget my technique. So it is not for getting views. I didn't have a professional camera and I don't care if no-one watches it as it's only for me. So don't watch it if you don't like it....
I watched a few videos on how to make yo-yos and yours is the best video. Thank you
WOW! You're AWESOME!
Wow, this is such a nostalgic throwback to YCC! I'm really glad you posted this :)
Is this Bach? Or someone else? The music I mean.
Bach
Excellent directions for joining yo yo's. Just what I needed. .
my pleasure! I posted it to remember how I did it and it has helped many others!
Hello Dunn family, It's New Year's Day, 2023, and, for the second time, I am watching The Dunn family Christmas and wedding up the road at St Stephen's Church. And watching the lads get that bear out of the tree (7:34) What a joy this is to watch. The piano music adds a melancholy historical bent to the whole experience. 🙏💜
You must have been a friend of my dad's?
This looks much quicker than the round. If I make a bed cover I will definitely do this. Currently I use yoyos to decorate things like lavender bags, etc.
❤
Thank you so much u helped me with my piano lesson u are the only person on RUclips to have this song on piano from conservatory Canada 2
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I am a student at rockway Mennonite coliget and I’m singing this song for coir. I need to practice, so I’m using this video! Also kinda funny cuz jeff ends is my teacher lol
Thanks.
Just found this! Wonderful- thank you!!!
Wow!!❤❤❤
The instructions were great, and I love that their is less waste.
I’ve been searching RUclips for good instruction on how to join yo-yos. This has been the best. It is very helpful. Thank you.

Isn’t this harmonic scale?
yup. In the Mount A syllabus for scales of this grade, all minor contrary scales are harmonic. So I just labelled the videos as they pertain to the syllabus. The main takeaway is that it is contrary motion rather than similar motion.
How beautiful. I don't know where you are, but I am enjoying the chair singing. Thanks for posting
Nicely explained, lovely colors on your yoyo's. Thank you.🇨🇦🕊️
thank you!
Wow!🤗
10:04 the line just feels so natural from him
Beautiful ❤
If only I could still do this lol
You could if you wanted to!!!
How will you close the center between 4 yoyos or leave the center open?
I don't close between the yoyos any more than is shown in the video. The holes are already quite small because the yoyos are square.
@@Elledee8642 Thank you
Good idea, I am so happy to discover this way of doing yoyos. Thank you so much.
very cool yoyos from squares! who knew??
Great rhythm at such a young age. Love it!
2:10 I still can’t believe its been almost ten years. I wish I could play on stage for the first time again. Truly a life changing experience
Do you have a yo yo guilt almost done that you can show me
No time to finish my quilt as I work about 60 hours per week. Also my bed is king size lol! I have done small projects but give stuff away lol! Whenever I can finish something next I will post it here in the comments so all can see!
Hi there what size are ur squares?
i use two sizes. i am not at home right now so can't measure, but it seems to me the small size is two or 2.5 inches and i have a larger size, maybe 4 inches. If I think of it when I get home later this week I will check.
Hey there - just had a chance to check. The size of the squares in this video and the other is 4" square. It still makes a small yoyo! You could do 3" if you want them tiny!
What a great idea cause I was jst abt to get into making these for a blanket or runner glad I found ur video 👍🙂
These are fantastic! I really dislike the look of round ones tacked together. I was wondering, though, if there would be a reason to avoid a blind, ladder style seam? The whip stitch is fast and strong, but I am looking to make the cover more reversible. Thanks again!
I never thought of a blind seam. I think that would be a great idea to try! These yoyos are already so much more stable than the round ones because of their shape anyway. If you try it, post a picture!
I love this! Thank you for your detailed instructions-practical and efficient. Bravo! 👏🏼
you are very welcome!
That’s really good 👍 Keep up the good work!!! That really helped me, thank you so much 😊
Beautiful 💞

The Kings Rule is Absolute!!
I will guess you know the king personally lol!
@@Elledee8642 Well, it would be strange if I didn't know myself, wouldn't it?
@@s24bro58 it sure would :)
This was such a helpful video, thank you!!
my pleasure!
I love the idea of square yo yos - I have so much scraps which I will be using to make these - Thanks for showing how to do the square ones.
You're very welcome!
I really like using squares. It does go much faster.
I was just given a wonderful yo-yo quilt to complete by a wonderful elderly lady that could do no more quilting, So sad, because she has done beautiful work in the past! Now it's my turn to carry the torch. Thank you for your wonderful and efficient way to join the yo-yos. I know now I can do the quilt justice. Thank you for the fantastic video!
my pleasure!!
So pretty. Is there no backing to it?
no need for a backing. Once each yoyo is made, it is double fabric.
This is perfect for me to take on my doctor visits. I need something that doesn’t take up a lot of space is easy to start and put down and this is perfect. Thank you for sharing
They are addictive - and you can make so many things with them!
Love this. Where's the video that shows how you put them together.
