Thank You for putting this video and enlighten me on the low light suitation that I did not test it out . I tried and test Z6 III and Z8 for 5 days each , I shot the same bird eagle and kingfisher diving together, I found the auto focus quite the same most of time but smaller bird Z8 sometime better in certain conditions like busy background as it detect the bird eye feature.

Excellent! A jpg stores RGB values as 8-bit with a possible range of 0-255, while RAW stores RGB values in 16-bit with a possible range of 0-65,535! I like to use shutter priority so I can quickly change to a fast shutter speed if I see an incoming bird in flight. Getting at eye level or slightly below eye level, sitting and waiting in a blind instead of following and spooking wildlife, shooting at less than 50 meters from the animal all helped me taking waterfowl and big game photos here in Montana. With stationary big game (bedded animal) I will often take many shots varying shutter speeds from 1/200 sec up to 1/2000 sec. For birds in flight, typically 1/1000 sec for large birds such as geese, 1/2000 for flying ducks, 1/3000 for faster moving birds such as diving hawks. Single focus point for stationary animals with eye detection, wide range focus zone and no eye detection for birds in flight. Great point to turn off lens stabilization for fast moving birds and high shutter speed!

Interesting tutorial about the iso sensitivity. I have never shot wildlife before but will practice this tutorial to the ducks at the nearby pond :) Questions though: 1. So if I have prime lens (70-200 mm f/2.8) it’s better to shoot at AV mode? 2. To which extend I can maximize the ISO, to avoid the digital noise. Thanks!

For bird in flight I try and prefocus on an contrast object on the ground at the distance the bird will be flying at.

Thank you for your analysis. I'm currently using a Z6 for general shooting, and a D500 with 200 - 500mm lens for bird attempts. I have been hesitant to hang the heavy lens on the ftz adapter, but am very tempted by the improved autofocus of the Z6III.

Excellent! For birds in flight, it seems that auto focus works better by zooming out first, acquiring focus, then while tracking the incoming bird, zoom to frame and shoot.

Jaw dropping abilities of my Canon SX70 ..first moments I came across beautiful light banging into an area at the creek I was standing in ..there came an all white Egret stalking minnows..so being slow ,not alarmed by my presence at 30 yards of my monster zoom .it moved slowly in and out of shadow .and on a few shots it's right side has some blow out ..but it turned its head and yellow beak so I had half beautiful not over exposed ..even caught spider webbing even further back . I can't get over the cameras abilities at 600 dollars. ❤❤. Great info here .

If I remember correctly -10EV is with a f/1.2 lens wide open, the other brands use f/2 for their measure. I saw in a table the Z6 III was -8.5 EV at f/2.

Cool - I think it’s important to learn to quickly change between the different options while photographing a subject so when you get back to edit you can choose what worked best… I usually start with ‘safe’ settings that I know will get me something and then try and dial in better (but riskier) settings. Then I edit backwards and go through until I find something good!

JPG's just apply de-noising in camera, the noise is always there with all cameras. Using raw just lets you control the de-noising

You forgot to talk to a very important point when you have big zooms (more than 200mm) is about heat radiation that will interfere with the autofocus and with the wakey of the picture in general

Very nice... So for example, if you focus on the magpie's shoulder and the eye is probably a few millimetres further away, would you be able to focus by moving your body a tiny bit forward rather than touch camera settings? Would that result in increasing the depth of field and getting the bird's head in focus?
