"We [used to see ourselves as part] of a larger revolution for peace and for social justice."
-Cleve Jones, LGBT activist
I believe that relationships built in the streets are one of the most authentic ways to build community and talk about social problems. From time to time I take my video camera out to the streets of the Castro, San Francisco's LGBT neighborhood, to talk about the world...and what we need to do to change it. This video blog chronicles some of those conversations.

Interview with MILK screenwriter Dustin Lance Black
In May of 2008, I ran into MILK screenwriter Dustin Lance Black at the unveiling of Harvey Milk's new statue in San Francisco's City Hall. He stopped to chat with me about what Harvey's story means to him, and about the continuing impact of Harvey's work.

Election day 2008 was a roller coaster in the Castro. We took the streets to celebrate the election of Barack Obama, but we were brokenhearted when Prop 8 passed. This video is a story from the streets of the Castro about election night, the fallout of Prop 8, and the national movement for LGBT civil rights that's being ignited through California's struggle.

On Tuesday, October 28, MILK premiered at the Castro Theatre. I went to talk to people about Harvey Milk's legacy, and I asked what issues he'd care about in this year's elections.

I caught up with several street musicians in the Castro to chat with them about their music, and why they like to play in the neighborhood. I also talked to bystanders about the music, and interviewed the policeman who shut the party down.

On Saturday, July 26, the Human Rights Campaign held a stuffy dinner auction and fundraiser at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. In a show of solidarity with trans folks, the local LGBT community threw a "Left Out Street Party" for everyone who got left out of the HRC's Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
A lot to be Gay Proud of.

This was Pride Weekend in San Francisco. I peered behind the curtain of corporate vendors to find folks sharing their stories and talking to people about the issues that affect our lives and our communities.

On May 1, workers and immigrants made a unified call for social justice to honor MayDay. Marches throughout the day drew the connection between the unjust War in Iraq and our unjust immigration policies. Later I headed to the Castro to ask how people felt about these issues.
Another Gay Man for a Free Tibet

The Olympic Torch was met in San Francisco with massive protests against China's occupation of Tibet and financial support for genocide in Darfur. I talked to people in the Castro, exploring what it means for LGBT people to care about Tibet.

Gus Van Sant put out an open call for extras to recreate Gay Freedom Day from June of 1978 for his upcoming film about Harvey Milk. I went to talk to people about what Harvey Milk represents to our community, and how the Castro has changed since the 70s.

I took my video camera out to the Castro on a Saturday night and asked people to tell me their stories about the neighborhood. Some people shared their favorite memories, and two Jesuses had words about Kathy Griffin and poverty.
great guy a great speaker
😍❤️❤️
Trans is not like gays and lesbians.....gays and lesbians are good with their gender, we are just attracted to same gender and we don’t need operations. Trans is gender confusion and has no connection to gays and lesbians.
ok Karen
I’m lesbian....I don’t support trans rights ....I know many who regret their sex changes
Why is this guy Harvey Milk so special then the rest? Is it because he was gay then assassinated?? Is that it??? Gays want to be treated like everyone else then act like your everyday Americans instead they always want special rights, then burn the Constitution overturn the peoples votes in California on Prop. 8 by a judge from the Gay Mafia in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals." God Sees the Truth Yet Waits"....SIGN. A San Francisco born Conservative.....415

"We also sent Lut : He said to his people : "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds." Qur'an 7:80-81

Thank you for making a change and still believing in us.
I want to keep him vibrant and a live. Lets not forget what he changed and represented, and lets not forget who we are. Let us be unified, continue to better our world and love ourselves and each other. Let us bring hope and all her success. I <3 Harvey Milk, Cleve Jones, and Anne Kronenberg and the rest of the team! :)
I am always feeling incomplete. Like I am missing something profound and important in my life. I realize now that I am missing a connection to my fellow gay community. The unity that Harvey Milk brought to us all had fallen apart. I want to bring to spirit of the Castro back and I want to bring our dignity back. We are family and yet we discriminate each other while being discriminated against. Yet, we have the audacity to demand more equality? This doesn't make sense. I want to carry on Milk
Texasred63 you're an idiot. Cleve...you're an inspiration.
Anita Bryant did the right thing - and paid the price. She was demonized (as in the movie, 'MILK'), called names and had pies thrown against her. All of this, of course, was done by people who are always talking about 'tolerance.' Anita Bryant did what was 'politically incorrect' - and what is 'political incorrectness?' Simple; anything that the left finds offensive - and if the left is offended, they will try to destroy you...all in the name of 'tolerance.' What a joke.
I really think that if the gay community needs wider acceptance they must stop this gay pride thing. Psychologically it just alienates themselves from society and it sometimes comes across as arrogance. They must realize that the homosexual lifestyle was not generally considered norm and a sudden change is quite hard for a lit of people to accept. They will come around. Give them time and explain it to them without accusing them of homophobia. Peace.
@riotcunt86 I agree with you. I would like to add that our gay movement for equality is only boring for those that are insensitive and have not experienced discrimination, and those that have been brainwashed by the religious norm. Must I instill the fact that fighting the oppresser and mounting the human concept of love is not boring. This is about fighting for our dignity or do nothing and let the oppresser keep us in our place, its an easy choice for our community, or at least it should be.
@tauras88d yes and heterosexuals don't consist of a preverted population, lets not forget the macho heterosexual men (who cross the boundry) that rape women that say "no" the first time. Heterosexual flaws equally exsist.
rest in peace harvey!!
@davidreeves101 Sorry- to clarify - the above were important moral rights you won from us after the American Revolution.
Sorry but most of us Europeans really don't understand why two profit generating, tax paying citizens can't have a civil marriage. The Christian Church has a problem with us which is OK (but very confused thinking if you isolate Christ's actual words from the commentary of his followers - he did after all come to give us new laws from the Old Testament ones). It just seems so Land of the Free to champion these rights. Sorry but you rejected State Religion over personal rights...
@tauras88d oh, ok... I get it. You're offering a short seminar on "morals"... and your morals seem to be that it's ok to stab and crucify someone should they make at pass at you. Naturally this only applies to same-sex sexual passes. ... imagine if women had the right to murder men who make unwanted advances on them. In short, you have justified the murder and torture of innocent human beings (we all got the Wyoming reference) You have no credibility in my universe or that of any decent people
Much controversy was raised by Perez Hilton's report of DLB's having done naked pictures (or videos or both) having sex (or not) with someone (who is nameless) else. However, over 1,500 comments at the site alleged to have said items shared one common thread: "There are no videos or pictures at this link." NONE - however, those who claim to have seen them all hide behind aliases.
You said it: 'when you make a video' in private it's supposed to stay that way, private. Now, judging someone because they have sex in private with another consenting adult, that is what I would call plain stupid.
As much as I agree with you it's spelled C U N T If you look in the dictionary there's a picture of her...
kimmo is as transparent as most homophobics, they are in here trying tooo tooooo hard to appear straight. Get over yourself kimmo you are so afraid, of what really? Don't say, we all know! Such a simpleton you are.
Dalai lama stands for theocracy. Do you think any religious bigots in this world would be lenient to gay people? I don't.
You don't think, moron.
Do yourself a favor: hide your ugly face in a dark bar--though in a bar that dark I doubt anyone could find you or want to.
I saw some of them over Gawker, those were already disturbing. I have always wondered why people insist on taking pictures when they are fugging! shit I wouldn't do.Maybe I didn't pay attention I had no idea he was gay, and I had no idea he was even 35. he looks like he is barely out of his teens.
perez hilton has pics of him getting it on with a guy. and there barebacking.
i love the gay men and i love tibet FREE TIBET
Great video. Harvey Milk was an amazing man, and I'm glad someone close to him is still alive and can help share his legacy, along with building an amazing legacy of his own.
Im a straight man from michigan. But hearing Harvey Milk's story..and of Cleve Jones helped me to realize how fucked up this country is according to human rights. I've always had an open mind about gays, never had a problem with them, always accepted them, thought Anita Bryant was a devilish woman...but now watching this and "Milk" i just want to let everyone know that no matter who or what you are you will always be accepted by someone somehwere. GAY RIGHTS NOW!!!
omg I want to meet him...
I'm gay and I support Free Tibet. I don't support the communist China.
Yay for your Oscar Lance! :D
HES CUTE
LoL true! ok she is a KUNT!
Any homophobe or someone who aggreseively displays or advocates thier hate for gays, is nothing more then a hardcore closest case themseleves, its been scienctfically proved not to mention it just makes a whole lot of sense. They feel the more they verbally or physically hurt othr gays, the more they push thier own feelings away...eventually thou it always re-surfaces, but then thats why they continually try and beat it.
was a fabulous movie. The life and times of harvey milk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you watched "The Times of Harvey Milk" 1984 documentary? You can watch it here, on RUclips.
This is awesome. I loved 'Milk' and the documentary with Feinstein and the Oscar acceptance speech by the screewriter, he is so damn cute! :D. I love Harvey. I'm glad I learned an important part of our history. His name will live in glory forever.
Cleve you rock!
I love this interview. I just saw "Milk," and all I could think about was Prop 8 getting passed (and all the other anti-gay propositions in other states)...and it made me sad. We're lacking in unity, revolution, and spirit...we were defeated by all of these propositions and at present, I don't think we have the gusto or the right sense to fight back.
Love him
can wait for his next project!!! great guy !!!
Interesting, exactly how am I poor, pitiful or bitter? And these revolting feelings would be what? Please explain.
That's you "Xenabuffyfan" LOL!
You poor, bitter, pitiful thing. I hope you can get over such revolting feelings.
