scalloped sounded great.......both superb guitars!
Hi Robert, thank you for this very nice and interesting comparison. The difference is quite obvious, this must be the impact of the scalloping. For me the sunburst sounds a bit mellower and darker. Both are amazing guitars anyway.
Interesting comparison for a really interesting pickup (also price-wise!) external mic only: strummed 00:01:47 - picked 00:02:02 humbucker only: strummed 00:02:18 - picked 00:02:32 humb.+internal mic: strummed 00:03:01 - picked 00:03:14
Thanks so much, sir !
Hey, do you by any chance have any recordings with or on the dynafield pickup?
Sketen!
was that a sitka or adi top?? sounds amazing
I thought the Mojotone NC-2 (without the mic) sounded the most natural, and most similar to the sound through the Schoeps microphone. Every test, every room, and every demonstrator is different though, and another time the result may have been different.
Thanks a lot for listening and commenting ! And yes, the Mojotone would be my favorite, too.
Beautiful playing and I love the tone of those mics!
Thanks a lot ! Yes, these mics are just amazing !
Thanks for the review, I feel the AAs would sit in a modern mix better, but in solos the Schoeps have a bit more presence, to be honest it’s not enough to convince the average listener that one is good and one is not so good, if money doesn’t matter it’s the Schoeps but ,let’s not kid ourselves, for modern music and the way the younger generation listens the AAs hold their own for far less money! 😊
Merry Christmas to all you great pickers in this world, Yankee definitely being one of them!
Lovely holiday tune indeed, thank you!
Outstanding! :-)
My applause, great cover!
Are you a luthier by any chance?
Sounds warm and lovely!
I enjoyed this tune. Would love to hear on recording and mastering work
Very well arranged and played, cheers

Hi Robert -- I have a K&K pickup in my guitar at present, and when my palm comes down on the strings, keeping the rhythm, I'm getting a distorted thump/click sound which I can't get rid of. Just wondering if you could comment on whether or not the Dazzo is prone to this kind of percussive overload?
Hi, yes, the K&K can produce that percussive overload when hit hard. A decent preamp helps to tame that overload: RedEye, Sunnaudio or the Grace line of guitar preamps is what I tried. The Dazzo is more "generous" or more forgiving to that issue, although it's a more sensitive pickup. Great package ! Best Robert
@@roberthasleder1526 Thanks Robert
Thank you for your thorough review, Robert. I have played guitar 30+ years and I understand the challenges and the time required recording. I have played most of the big name pickups and I have always returned to the Sunrise. I have three! Great video. I would like to offer a suggestion perhaps for your next video. I find it beneficial when the demonstrator plays the exact same music for each pickup. It helps me with what I hear with each pickup. Thank you again.
Hi, thanks - I totally understand !
You can hear the difference but not $40,000 worth
Maybe in the far future these late 40s D18 guitars sell for $40,000, but right now and back when I bought mine they are much lower.
What mic is that? Sounds great! This tone would cut through a mix well, without sacrificing weight/pluck
Hey, the mic is a Schoeps CMC6MK4 through a Pendulum MDP-1 preamp, no EQ and compression. I love that mic for its detailed and natural sound. Beside the Neumann KM84 it's my first choice for mandolin, acoustic guitar ...
@roberthasleder1526 nice, I love the sound of a condenser mic through a tube pre. I have been looking at a DIY KM84 clone, planning on sending that through a UAD 610. Mostly to record mando and guitar, but perhaps for hand drums as well
@@mississippijohnfahey7175 That sounds like a decent plan.

@@roberthasleder1526 someone had one of his Octaves at a mandolin camp in Massachusetts and the sound in person was impressive. I actually had heard the same octave many years ago played by its original owner at mandolin symposium in New Hampshire
@@TimothySweeney Oh yes, these Sobell instruments are just amazing !
Wonderful song. makes me think and reflect. Thanks.
very good job,and no blablas thanks a lot 👌
Hey there, thanks a lot. Best, Robert
Great video ie same position gives you the tonal differences but would like to se different positions to suit the mic's ie slightly further away the cc8 is maybe it sounds more like the Schoeps
Nice tune! You don't you use a standard set of strings, do you?
Yes, standard set of light gauge strings on that guitar. Elixir back then, these days John Pearse or D'Addario XS.
@@roberthasleder1526 Thank you very much! I'm not fond of that tuning, but I may try again - this time with light gauge strings, though ...
what about fishman rare earth?
Unfortunately I hadn't a Fishman Rare Earth Blend available. I used it for years with great results. Only thing I have to mention is the mic of the Rare Earth Blend was a tad to sensitive in the trebles.
@ i have a fishman rare earth (no mic) on my yamaha and it sounds great too.. thanks for your reply
Lovely playing and a very melodic composition.
Thanks a lot, sir !
Sounds great-congratulations! Could you elaborate a bit on your mixing and sound mastering work?
Thank you very much ! Yes, I will try to describe. My mixing is pretty simple: Not any EQ involved, no compression an any instrument with the exception of the electric fretless which I compress while recording through an Universal Audio 6176 Channel Strip. Main acoustic guitar, mandolin and dobro are recorded with two microphones (Schoeps CMC MK4) to a Pendulum MDP-1 preamp, high pass filter set at 80 Hz. Most of my mixing work is setting the levels and do the panning: Bass and main guitar in the middle (the two guitar mic tracks recorded in wide A/B configuration, panned hard left/right), mandolin panned to the left (10 o' clock), dobro to the right (2 o' clock). I fix the sound of dobro and mandolin (each recorded with two mics: body, neck) by leveling the two mics for the sound I like on that track. You'll hear 12-string guitar panned hard right, Irish bouzouki panned hard left, both at very low volume - this gives me a wide stereo image. Reverb is Lexicon vintage plate on main guitar, dobro and mandolin, additional Lexicon reverb (1,5 ms) on the main guitar. I use moderate compression and limiting in the stereo bus. So all in all it's pretty simple, no tricks or gimmicks. It's all about fine instruments, a good sounding room, fine mics and preamps, the right placement of mics for the sound you'll hear in your head - that's what I learnt in 30+ years of recording acoustic strings. Hope that helps a bit.
Sehr hübsch und grooovt gut
Danke dir, freit mich sehr !
Can I ask what type of strings you put on your Martin? I have a 1933 0017 and in doubt to put 12-53s retro monels on the guitar because no trussrod.
Hey there, I have no problems putting lights 12-53 on it. John Pearse PB or D'Addario XS is what I mostly use.
@roberthasleder1526 thanks!
ein wunderbares Instrumental
Ganz herzlichen Dank dafür !
Sehr schönes Stück, Robert
Hey, danke dir ganz herzlich, Yankee !
very nice
Thanks a lot, sir !
Lovely piece Robert.
Hey, thanks a lot !
Beautiful instrumental piece Robert. Really heartwarming. I'm not much into categorizing music but for me it sounds like irish folk?! ..it evokes a longing to drive to the sea and enjoy a cup of tea while listening to this tune and the waves. Thanks for putting this out 🙏
Wow, thank so much, Lutz ! Highly appreciated ! Yes, my instrumental music draws some inspiration from Celtic tunes and compositions in the vein of Turlough O'Carolan.
@@roberthasleder1526 Ohh..never heard of him before. A singer and composer of the 17th century.. I'll have a listen.

Das tut gut.
Almost identical. Thanks for the comparison
I tried the Mojotone NC Passive and loved the tone but found that the cable was "microphonic" itself. When I would touch it even slightly I could hear it in the amp, or even on the face of the guitar. Since I didn't want to risk screwing up shortening the long cable for permanent install, I bought the NC-2. It is my favorite in this demo by quite a bit. Nice work!
what mixer are you using?
Mixer is a QSC Touchmix 16 - very happy with it !
Thats nice!
I love it! My spirit feels it!
hi Robert, does the regular Shatten fits into a 00015 Martin? Shatten recommends a shorter HFN Version? cheers Julius
Hi, I had no problems installing it in the guitar you see in this vid, but it didn't fit into a 1956 O18. I installed a regular length Schatten HFN in a friend's Martin 00015 Streetmaster with no problems. So it really depends on the particular guitar and its space between the x-braces. I would measure that space and decide or go for the short version anyway. Best, Robert
@@roberthasleder1526thanks, yes I will try either the passive or active one. Not sure yet. If it fitted the streetmaster well it should also fit in the regular 00015 model
