    • @JacksonSewingAcademy
      @JacksonSewingAcademy 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your feedback. Pull and slider can be used interchangeably when talking of zippers, as seen in this search result for 'zipper pull' www.myshoehospital.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/ZIPPER-PULLS_6-1-18.jpg The pull can refer to the tab we hold when opening and closing a zipper and the slider can refer to the body that encloses the teeth.

    This was the only video I could find on sharping WAX! There are tons about chalk but I wasn’t sure it was the same method. (As it turns out you do the same thing to hone both- but I wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly!) Thank you so much for taking the time to make this, I have a huge box of your wax and love it! But was going through it rather quickly, as you might imagine, because I was setting aside each piece as it got dull! 😅

    • @JacksonSewingAcademy
      @JacksonSewingAcademy Год назад

      Thanks for the feedback. When marking with the chalk always press lightly and keep the long edge flat for the most accurate lines. Also do not tilt the wax so as to wear down the corners. They will become dull quicker than the long edges. Happy sewing!

    I think I'm missing something. When you put in the second half of the zipper 'up to the chalk mark', I can't find the part in the instructions for how to create that chalk mark.

    • @JacksonSewingAcademy
      @JacksonSewingAcademy Год назад

      You are correct. When we created the video the videographer had me redo this portion and when the footage was put back together the step where I mark the second half of the zipper was edited out. Just prior to this step the zipper is done up to the top of the waistband (the first half is already stitched down). Mark with chalk on the second half the point where the other side of the waistband should be stitched.

      @@melaniebruno4632 Are you referring to the actual tab that is attached to the slider that one holds on to while pulling the slider up and down?

    • @melaniebruno4632
      @melaniebruno4632 Год назад

      @@JacksonSewingAcademy Yes; it's the item that hangs onto the small metal ring on the slider that enables the pull to go up and down, which the manufacturer (Coats) refers to as the zipper pull. I bought a new pull but after I put it on it kept coming right off. Then I discovered why the original one fell off - the small metal ring on the slider has an opening at the bottom, so putting on a new pull is worthless, since it will fall off every time. Whoever thought an opening at the bottom of that ring is a mental midget.

    • @JacksonSewingAcademy
      @JacksonSewingAcademy Год назад

      @@melaniebruno4632 I agree with you on that. You can of course replace their ring with a similar sized key ring or decorative lace to create a pull. Other than that I would replace the entire slider. I also understand that sometimes replacing the slider means the new one may not match the others on a garment. I have had clients request they all be switched out for a cohesive appearance.

    After just paying $15.00 (YIKES!!) on just a zipper replacement for a pair of $3.00 thrift store jeans I bought, I need to learn how to replace zippers on jeans. I have a little experience sewing and I own a couple of older sewing machines. I can do minor straight line sewing work but nothing intricate as this. I would love to get back into sewing again as I find it really relaxing. But I do enjoy finding some interesting pieces at thrift shops and making them my own. This is one skill I definitely need to learn how to do. So my sewing fears are zippers (clearly), making button holes, and adding pockets to skirts (most skirts should have pockets...LOL). From all the videos I have seen, this one makes more sense to me as you don't have to rip out the entire jean in order to replace the zipper. This tutorial is perfect. I may go find a cheap pair of to make some alternations to. Thanks for your help.

    The zipper pull TAB broke of one of a "work sweatshirt" made by a well known company and when they sent me a "replacement kit" they didn't send the directions for how to fix it. I thought I had been saved when I found your video. Unfortunately your audio and your video are not "in alignment" with each other, making it really hard (at least for me) to follow/figure out what you're doing. You may want to look into fixing this issue.

    i just have the same problem when I remove the failed buttons they leave holes but not as big as shown in the video, do I still need to repair the holes first and then punch those new buttons or I can just put new buttons without repairing holes? (Btw the holes are a lot smaller than the screws bottom.) and I did put new buttons without repairing and they look fine, and I don’t see any fabric sticking out of the buttons, is that fine? Or it will move around and ending up with buttons fell off?

    • @JacksonSewingAcademy
      @JacksonSewingAcademy 3 года назад

      Hello Dan, thanks for leaving the comment. I use the darning technique almost all the time when a jean button pulls out from the back of the fabric. I do not punch a hole through the newly darned area when putting the new button on. I place the bottom nail side of the new button under the waistband and pound the top half on through the material. I found when I punched a hole for the nail that the material frays too easily and the new button pulls through. The only time I would not use the darning is when the jean button itself just broke off. But if it has pulled through the material I would recommend doing a bit of darning. I hope this is helpful.

    • @JacksonSewingAcademy
      @JacksonSewingAcademy 3 года назад

      Hello, you are correct. The part you are talking about got left out accidently. Once the first side is fully in zip up the zipper as high as it will go and mark the loose side with chalk where the zipper reaches the waistband. Cut the zipper half inch above the chalk mark and this portion is tucked under the waistband. I hope this clarifies the steps.
