SHUT UP PAUL THAT'S NOT WHAT "INFAMOUS" MEANS GAHHHHHHHHH
If you're not a drummer, you'll never realise the significance of this track.
I will always hate the sound of electric acoustic guitars. Just sayin'...
Vinnie, the legend !!!
God that drum shuffle intro and how the words come jn is just so good
That was great
Please don't forget Richard Tee.!
I love the Gadd and his drumming is pretty special, but just wanted to give P Simon some love, sitting calmly in the pocket and laying down his parts like the pro he is. ❤
Steve is top tier drum - no over fills, no distraction from fellow musicians, no grandstanding. Anchors the song with an occasional foray where space allowed and back into the pocket he goes. You can hear the Art Blakely influence with Steve's own innovative touch and music intelligence. One of my favorite drummers.
Yes Gadd….don’t forget Eric Gale and my fave…Richard Tee !!
5/8 Done Brilliantly.....What a beautiful arrangement! Thanks for sharing!
The feel-good drum track of the decade! Kudos to Sting for permeating the airwaves with such tasteful pop music and bringing a genius like Vinnie to the masses
I wonder what Vinny did with the money that his mother gave him for drum lessons? Sounds like he put it to good use lol Vinny is a phenomenon.
2:07 "to die in Minecraft"
A perfect 5/4 time song by Sting and Vinnie & Dominic.
That middle part with the guitar solo almost sounded like JJ Cale for just a moment.
That's right kids. Once upon a time we could sit down in a venue and enjoy listening to great people making great music right before our eyes and ears.
Facts: The sun is hot. The water is wet. Vinnie is Vinnie.
Some cocaine was involved in the vocal performance 😂
It's not that it's technically perfect ( although it is), it's that it's the most beautiful, effective drum riff ever! And suits the song perfectly
Vinnie's beautiful here but... I can't imagine how Sting can sing these loose phrases around playing the bass in 5/8. That's a different kind of independence.
What is this time signature? 6/8?
5/8
This is just true, pure, SICK musicianship, and I’m here for it.
Who’s on keys?
When was this concert???
That was just plain excellent! Is that an oxymoron?
Peart, Colota, Bruford, Chambers,Beuford. 1-5 best drummers in the world and I’ve been lucky enough to see them all live!!!
that is funny on so many levels.
Only it's Stew Copeland drumming. No Vinnie .
I still preffer Dave Weckl over Vinnie. However his drum placing and subdivisions are insane!
I don’t think I’m making it up that even vinnie’s rim clicks are A+
Vinnie! Vinnie! Rest of the band is pretty amazing though...
Ahh Stewart's buddy!
Most beautiful head phones ever. They're ok players as well 😅
Sting & Vinnie = Match in Heaven
Colaiuta is a Perfect example of a person who found their gift in Life!!!
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
Just brilliant! Sting at his absolute peak, with one of the best bands he’s ever worked with - Ten Summoner’s Tales is still one of his best works (closely followed by The Soul Cages). Pop music would never be this sophisticated again.
Bands cant even play something half as simple live anymore. Of course they were all jazz musicians. Its a time that needs to return.
Steve God
Vinnie playing Stewart, nothing better!
Phenomenal band! Steve is in a class by himself!
I can't remember if I've commented here before....I saw Paul Simon in 1980 in London with this band. It's one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I didn't know who Gadd, Tee, Levin or Gale were, but I kept the Melody Maker review (a UK music paper), which still hangs in my rehearsal room to this day (44 years later). When you get a great songwriter, backed by a great band, it's only going to be sublime, like this. Late in the Evening nearly took the roof off!
One of the best backing band ever
Counting!!! one or one or two or a three ;)
Steve gadd has the groove he has played with so many good people I love his plane with Eric Clapton
He’s without a doubt the best all around drummer, period.
We can learn this drum beat but doesn’t mean it will sound like Gadd 😏
IMO this isn't just Sting's best song, it's very high on the list for best song ever written (in the modern era). Top 2. And the part is hard but not insurmountable. I blew a lot of minds when I played this with my band (as a drummer ) and sang it as well. And, yes, in a live setting. Probably the most challenging thing I've ever done as a performing musician.
I know a young Japanese girl who plays the drums for this song, very well also :yoyoka .
The 5/4 Groove was Deeeeeeeep!
