Hi my friend I'm back with one more question lol I'm looking online for jobs and they say that HCA Certification is required. Does the certification require a course/class and if so I'm In Los Angeles do you know where I could take it?
Hey, great question. So, what the employer means, is you need to become HCA registered within the state of California. Some employers use the terminology of "Certified" or "Certification" but it is the same as registering as an HCA (Home Care Aide) within the state of California. With that said, you can learn how to register as an HCA by following the RUclips video you are commenting on - once you are fully registered as an HCA and completed a background check (We have HCA registration Part 2 here: ruclips.net/video/h0bzErJOe9U/видео.htmlsi=EPyki_3cyte-vZ8_) you then will provide that employer your HCA PER ID number which can be found in your HCA application.
The address given is wrong: i went to USPS but they said they couldnt find the address either. The zip code and the POX box number should not be the same. Can you give us an idea on how to resolve this problem. Thank tou
After my livescan they want me to sent one copy to the CA Dept. of Social Services
If you have been denied in the past how long until you can reapply? Ive done Nursing certifications, but HCA is holding a 10 year old misdemeanor against me, whats messed up is my child was molested 14 years ago and I cant get work STILL because I pushed the child abuser smh horrible Criminal justice system
I am sorry to hear about that - I hope that all becomes cleared up. We would suggest you work with the HCA registry to submit any exemption paperwork you have on the misdemeanor case on your record, this would allow you and the HCA registry to clear up your files and give you insight as to when/if you are able to re-apply. You can start this process off by emailing Guardian@dss.ca.gov for assistance or call (888) 422-5669 and share your specific case with them. They would know the exact specifics on your HCA application status. This way, you are not having to invest any money into the HCA or background check steps and still be denied.
Do you know if you have to do fingerprinting and live scan if you’ve already done it to work with IHSS?
You would need to undergo another fingerprint & livescan as the IHSS background check is only ran through the DOJ (Dept. of Justice) while the HCA background check requires you to undergo both an FBI an DOJ background check.
Hello, what if I got live scan before I did the application, And it is asking me for agency search for my background check application to go through, where do i find the AGENCY PIN NUMBER
You first would need to verify that your live scan that was done was sent to the CA Dept. of Social Services with a background check for both the FBI & DOJ. If that is confirmed, you then would input the background check confirmation ID in your Guardian (This is the site you originally registered as an HCA in California) account that was given to you at the end of your live scan. That would then connect your background check to your Guardian HCA application for you to bypass taking another background check. As for the Agency Pin, that would need to be collected from the Home Care agency you are employed with. Simply ask them for their HCA PIN and they will give it to you. If you are not currently employed by a home care agency, then you would input the independent caregiver ID that is outlined in the video. Additionally, check out the written article about this video that goes into more detail here: www.augusta.care/blog/how-to-register-as-a-home-care-aide-in-california-part2
Would it be different process in florida
Can u register without having an SSN?
Unfortunately no. You have to have a valid working visa (and therefore have a SSN) to work as a caregiver in the US.
Ive already done a background check without the live scan and i have the results, can i still register?
Hey Sandy, you can still register as an HCA. As long as your background check & Live Scan results were under the FBI & DOJ + they are not expired, they should still be valid. Now, some places may make you retake them if your background check was not a complete FBI / DOJ check as that is required to be done for you to be an HCA registered caregiver.
Hi! I read around and it seems that you have to complete a program as a HCA for training and to rack up some hours? Which program is best for California? Are there any good online options? Some of the sites that i've been to seem to not be working and may be old.
Home care agencies in California generally gives the training as part of their onboarding. Completing the HCA registration is a huge step in giving them the confidence that you want to be in this industry, and will likely make sure you're trained. Hope this helps.
Hey im a cna should i get the in home aide training or do i not have too?
Hey, in short yes you would need to become HCA registered in the State of California to work as a caregiver in California. Regardless if you have CNA certifications/background, the State of California mandates you to be HCA registered if you want to work as a caregiver in CA. Now the benefit of being both is it allows you to have more flexibility with your schedule and pay when applying to local home care agencies, living facilities, hospitals, etc. as you are now able to do both CNA an HCA tasks.
I just done today for my live fingerprints scan what is next to do ?
Simply wait to see if you have passed the background check. You should be email notified (If you opted into email notifications from the Guardian site) of your background check outcome. If no email, I suggest checking your guardian account registration status in 1-2 weeks to see if you are cleared to work as an HCA. Once cleared, you can start working with as a caregiver with a home care agency or independent. :)
@@augustacare I already working for 3months
this series is so good
What if u already taken a fingerprint and background check live scan last year December 2023 do I consider taken another one how do I go about that
I taken it for Security Guard
The HCA background check/fingerprint is sent to the FBI & DOJ specific to your HCA registration. Home Care workers undergo a different background check than most traditional processes. With that said, you would need to submit another one for the HCA registration. For you to get to the background check portion, you first need to register as a HCA in California (Learn how to do this here: ruclips.net/video/wrrd7iKSOo4/видео.htmlsi=Is3yW53Y5FC8avwe ). Once you have registered, you will be given paperwork to go get a new background check/fingerprint.
Hi, this might be a dumb question, but do I have to complete an HCA training before registering?
No, you can register as an HCA before any training. Training is most commonly provided by your employer once you are working with a home care agency. If you are planning to work independent, then your training can be found online with online caregiver training courses.
Hi is there a way to edit name cause i cant edit it
Check out the Guardian FAQ page here: www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/cdss-programs/community-care-licensing/caregiver-background-check/guardian-faqs it goes over how you can change information in your account. :)
Great information 👍
Hi, Your video is super helpful! I just have a question -- I've been asked for a 10-digit-number that is found on the certificate - what do they mean for that? It isn't the certificate #, could it be my registry # or application #?
Thank you for your kind words. :) I am happy this was helpful. If a home care agency or employer is asking for your HCA # then they are referring to your HCA PER ID #. We have a part 2 to this video showing you how to find this number, take a look at the video here: ruclips.net/video/h0bzErJOe9U/видео.htmlsi=EdIkneOpGAC0oDX3&t=350 (I made sure to timestamp the video for you to easily find your PER ID #). Simply view your HCA registration approval letter to view your HCA PER ID. If you have not yet completed getting a live scan done, then I suggest checking out the linked video above and starting it from the beginning. That tutorial walks you through how to get a live scan done. :)
@@augustacare you are awesome! Thank you so much!
*Promosm* 😔
Thanks so much!!!! Great info!
Hi friend quick question im already a DSP worker for Special needs individuals and i already did my livescan. Once i entered my info it said i was cleared immediately due to me already being finger printed and working in the field. Does that sound about right?
Yes, that does sound correct. As long as your previous live scans/background checks were submitted to the FBI & DOJ & have not expired, you are already cleared to go. You should have been sent a PER ID number with your HCA clearance. You can learn more as to how to find the HCA per ID here: www.augusta.care/blog/how-to-register-as-a-home-care-aide-in-california-part2
@@augustacare thank you so much friend you have been extremely helpful!
Thank you so much very helpful
I'm already working for an agency, but they're not giving me enough work. Can I go ahead and register as an independent using the PIN provided on the website so I can apply for other agencies, or do I have to mention I'm currently working for an agency?
In short, you can "renew" your HCA application by using the independent caregiver PIN we mentioned in this video. However, the best practice is to be transparent with both your current employer (About needing more consistent hours) and your new potential employer (that you are working part-time elsewhere). You do not want to hide your experience working in home care from another agency (This shows you are experienced in home care), so its best to be transparent through and through. Now, prior to doing so, I suggest doing the following: - Talk to your current employer and explain your need for more hours. Be open to driving to farther clients, working different hours, or over the weekend. Most employers are willing to work with your constraints as long as you are able to do the same with their constraints of client requests. -If the top does not work: Start applying to other home care agencies and be transparent that you are working part-time elsewhere but are able to join full-time at their agency if they meet your working hour needs. Most home care agencies will be open to working with your outside commitments as long as it does not affect your work with their agency.
Thank you very much. Just trying to do the right thing for mom.
Glad to hear this was useful to you and your mom!
@@augustacare WoW! I've registered and got fingerprinted and was approved within one day. Does this mean that I am qualified to work or do I need to seek training? I do want to seek training, so do you have any recommendations?
@@ryanchiao3030 Most agencies will train you for free. Apply and make sure to ask the right questions to agencies to make sure they're of the right fit. Perhaps use Google Maps to see which ones are close to you and apply.
Do I have to have a high school diploma or ged to get a job as a caregiver? Thank you
That depends on the home care agencies requirements. Some agencies do require a High school diploma or GED equivalent. Although, most agencies are focused on you being HCA registered with the state of California & you being open to taking their training to ensure you are able to service seniors.
The job I’m applying says “willing to get a HCA license” mind you I’m not certified in anything. Is this process considered an HCA license?
Yes it is considered an HCA license, for you to work at any home care agency in the state of California, you need to be HCA registered. Now, the term license / registry varies per user, but in short, it is the same thing. Home Care Agencies are required to have all employees HCA registered for them to legally work for their business.
Hi! I have submitted my application Nov 29th and live scan 12/05.. but still haven’t got results yet.. saying its still on process.. how long would it take for hca application to process? Ty so much
This Live Scan background check process can take up to 75 days. Now, most are cleared within 1-4 weeks but if you have any criminal history it can take up to the full 75 days. If you have any criminal record exemptions, we suggest uploading that documentation to the Guardian website under your account. If you have a clear background and are having general trouble with your background check status: please email Guardian@dss.ca.gov for assistance or call (888) 422-5669.
Hi, I have zero criminal history for the last ten years. I do however have crimes from over 25 years ago, so since ihss only needs a 10 year no crimes clearance, will my very old 25 year criminal history cause my livescan and background check to take the full 75 days? I should go right thru ina week or so since I've had zero history in over 10 years, right?
Yes, your background check should process fairly quickly. Although the HCA process tends to be more thorough in the background check over IHSS. HCA has a background check of BOTH the DOJ & FBI. While, the IHSS only has a background check of the DOJ.
Thank you so much! i am an immigrant ...this video is so helpful for me!! May God bless you, sir!!
If you register as an independent, who takes care of the taxes and liability insurance? Is this a self employed venture?
Regarding registration as an independent caregiver: This is only for the state to know where you are going to be working as an HCA, the state has a general PIN # for independent caregivers. This would not affect anything on your end, if you decide to work with a home care agency right after you register as a caregiver, the home care agency you get hired at will update the agency PIN you have from the states to their home care PIN. This way, the state knows you are working with an agency now. Now, regarding actively WORKING as an independent caregiver: If you work on your own (not with a home care agency). You will be solely responsible for your taxes, insurance, etc. You can get paid slightly more working independently, although, you take on the risk of possible insurance issues with a client, work taxes, finding clients, retaining clients, and payment processing from a client. Working with a home care agency removes those responsibilities with a lower pay rate.
@@augustacare Thank you for the quick response. Definitely a great opportunity.
After doing the livescan, do i need to upload any document on the site or have to just wait the background check is complete ?
You just wait for the background check to be completed. You will find out if you passed by checking your guardian account messages.
Dude, thnx so much, you’re a lifesaver! 🙏
Glad it was helpful! We'll release part 3 soon (TB test).
@@augustacare , 👌🏽
Thank you so much! Have you done the second video, I need to find a finger printing place? 🙏
This tutorial shows you how to find a fingerprinting location near you: www.augusta.care/blog/how-to-register-as-a-home-care-aide-in-california-part2
I accidentally closed my application, not sure how? Now it’s hard to get a hold of anyone to reopen it.
If you have attempted to enter a username/password that is incorrect too many times, your account will be locked and you will need to contact GuardianLoginSupport@dss.ca.gov to get your account unlocked. If that was not the case, I suggest logging back into your Guardian account -> Scroll to the bottom of the home page -> Click <Create application>. You then will be prompted to submit a brand new application for a HCA / Caregiver. Note: You will be prompted to pay another $35 for the registration for this new application. If you have already paid and are not wanting to do that again, I suggest emailing the email above and asking for assistance. They usually take up to 5 days to reply.
Hey, is there a way I pay for registering in cash? Thanks
No, there is no way you can pay by cash. The HCA Guardian registry does allow payment by check or money order. Although, you then would need to submit your HCA registry application through the mail (Note: This prolongs your application process by a week +) You can see how to do this here: www.cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/FMUForms/E-H/HCS100.pdf?ver=2019-07-02-161552-160 If you want to keep your application online, then you would need to pay through a credit card.
I did my live scan today. I’m proud to announce I am cleared!!! My HCA registration is good for two years. I have my first client visit to tomorrow ❤
Congrats! Glad to hear that this was helpful.
Hey, you need to work with a home care agency to get placed with seniors / clients. If you are looking at becoming your own independent caregiver, then you would need to find the clients yourself as you essentially would be starting your own business (Self employed). That is why most caregivers work with Home Care Agencies as they agency sources the clients and places the caregiver (You)
I’ve messed up I try to go back and click on the withdraw aplicación and now I’m stock
Depending on the part of the application you made a mistake on, the resolution process will vary. If you made a mistake on your Personal Information: You can update this information on your CDSS Guardian account under the <Home> tab. This would be applicable for the following: Change of Address, email address, phone number, & opting in/out of electronic notifications. If you made a mistake on your background check information: You can call (888) 422-5669 which is the CDSS Guardian support line to inform them of the error that needs to be resolved. If all else fails, you can email Guardian support here: Guardian@dss.ca.gov
I’ll like to know how long it last and how can we renewed it?
Once you have successfully registered as an HCA, and passed the background check & Livescan fingerprints, & you are informed you are "Eligible" to work as an HCA in the state of California. Your registration will last for 2 years. You then will need to renew your HCA registration on the HCA guardian website ( guardian.dss.ca.gov/Applicant ) You can learn more about registration renewal here: www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/community-care/home-care-services/home-care-aide-application-process
What if I am applying to become an adult home administrator. But I am not employed by a facility, but don’t have an OCA number, how do I go about it
@@wanguigitonga5495 You would need to use the CDSS website and submit your application to them. I have two DUIs that are over 10 years ago....would I pass a fingerprint background check in California?
On renewal, after inputting all personal information, the result “not cleared”. What should I do? Please help 🙏
We suggest verifying that your personal information is the same as your original HCA registry application. Any changes in information such as a mailing address update or general personal information that was not notified 10 days in advance to the Home Care Aide Registry or updated through the Guardian can result in a forfeiture of your registration. (Here is the form to inform the HCA registry of any personal information updates: www.cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/FMUForms/E-H/HCS105.pdf?ver=2019-03-18-131042-770). I also suggest viewing this quick breakdown of what each registration status label means: www.ccld.dss.ca.gov/hcsregistry/PDFs/StatusDefinition.pdf Lastly, if you need direct assistance with the Department of Social Services HCA registry, I suggest checking out their site here & call them: www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/community-care/home-care-services/home-care-aide-application-process
Is the generic agency PIN number works for everyone or it’s different for candidates?
It works for all candidates. It's the default which means you're applying independently.
I’m following your video step by step
Thank you for this. Do we have to be a CNA to apply for HCA caregiver? Thanks
Nope. Anybody can do it and it makes you more interesting as a candidate, meaning that you're way more likely to be hired quickly if you have it.
@@augustacare thank you. I got confused because there’s an HCA and HHA (home health aide). I think HHA we have to be certified CNA to apply for that.

Hey Sadiksha, you are going to need to find a local fingerprinting location near you. You can use this site here -> oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations and search based off of your zip code. After finding a location close to your home, give the location a call and ask about the pricing (You will be needing a FBI & DOJ background check) and if you need to make an appointment before walking in. Make sure you print out 2 copies of your LiveScan form and bring it to the fingerprinting facility, this way you can have 1 for your records and the other sent to the background check agency. We will be posting our Fingerprinting video very soon! :)
How long does this prosess take to get a respond or to get liecenced
It depends whether the state finds something in your background check. If it does not find anything, then it can take a few weeks. If it does find something in the background check, then the state goes through a process of analyzing the case and deciding whether to forgive or not. If you think they may find something, we highly recommend to be as truthful as possible in the application and list everything that may come up. If you do that, this will accelerate this process.
This was incredibly helpful! TYSM!!!!!
Glad it helped!
@@augustacare I don’t have a driver’s license can I use Califonia ID card?
@@Becade I believe so.
I hate Facebook took away the marketplace. Yoh think it will come back or did Facebook do this just for $$?
I do not believe Facebook Jobs Marketplace will come back to the original form it previously was. From our research it was not for $$ either. Meta (Facebook) did this to better the quality of applicants of those that do apply to jobs. They are also giving more targeting abilities to businesses' that need a more granular approach for their recruiting needs.
@@augustacare so you think they did this because peiole before kinda just went crazy on applying or tooo many jobs showing Up. I thought they did it just to save money and make people pay for everything lol
I wish Facebook would bring this back
Sorry dude, if nothing is really changing, why is the rest of the world shut out of this "business as usual" model that will persist in the USA and Canada only?
Thanks for the message. It's unfortunate that Facebook jobs is shutting out outside of the US and Canada. Our audience is in North America so in this case, the change is not as dramatic and can be worked around by investing in the Facebook audience with strong content marketing.
