My paternal grandmother was a MacDonald from Cape Breton. Her ancestor Peter MacDonald, left South Uist in 1745 and emigrated to Creignish Rear on the west coast of Cape Breton after arriving on Prince Edward Island. It was with great pleasure that my wife and I visited Cape Breton on our 25th anniversary some 20years ago and explored the ruins of the abandoned settlement. About five years ago we visited England, Wales and Scotland. While we did not make it to the Isles we did get to see Castle Tioram which was the ancestral home of Clanranald of which I belong.
