RUclipsrs, thanks for letting me tell you about my channel, I want to help educate & inspire! My background as a master carpenter, enthusiastic gardener and avid outdoorsmen will help others with proper building, homesteading, and outdoor fun like hunting, fishing, boating & camping.
I've been a carpenter on the coast of Maine all my adult life. Our motto is: "The Way Life Should Be!" and I wholeheartedly agree. I've built high end residential homes, but equally enjoyed helping friends and family build off grid, outdoor camps. My family and I love to garden. I grow the veggies and fruit and my wife and daughters love flowers. We raise chickens, have a small greenhouse, and harvest our firewood for heating in the winter. I love DIY projects and want to share what I've learned over the years. Please join us as we continue to learn, grow & expand our 5-acre property. Be sure to subscribe with the notification bell turned on so you don't miss out on the next video.

You can't pull the starter cord, it's stuck/ won't move. In a few steps that I think most people can do once they know how. Thank you for watching, please hit the like button and subscribe. Hello Edman, Looks like a keeper. You'll have many years of fun with that one.
Hello Brian!! Thanks buddy. I hope you are doing well.

What a cutie pie!
Hello Mrs. Forrest! Thank you for being here and your support. Stay warm!

Trudy is a cutie, Edman, and so well behaved. Thanks for sharing this cool experience. 🙂

@@ronmarchand3011 camp time!!
Enjoyed the video. The clam holes look so abundant. I love steamers and my Dad took me once on Cape Cod when I was a kid. As I got older and started traveling, I decided to give it a go at a National Park in a Canada last summer. Was a tad different as the clams were submerged in the water, and you had to use your hand and a vortex type action with your hands to pull them. The moon phases weren't on my side and I'm planning this summers trip around the full moon to see if the tide gets lower. But I did them all by hand. I gathered 150 plump clams in an hour. I was going in blind and some locals were kind enough to take pity on me and give me a quick tutorial. I'm obsessed now and I love clamming. We shared the catch with neighbors at the campground as we couldn't eat them all. Canada is much easier as you can take 100 per day outside of the national park and no permit is required. We were told in Bar Harbor that people made a living off clamming and it was not unusual to get your tires slashed. That and like you stated, each town has permit requirements and they aren't easy to obtain. Hence, we will be avoiding Maine this summer sadly.
Hello A.J welcome to the channel, thanks for watching and the nice comment. I loved your story thanks for sharing it with us. I have seen the guys that stick their hands in there and pull them out. I got to get to Canada soon. I'd love to go on a goose hunt up there. If you come to Maine I will take you on my permit. haha have a great week, cheers Edman
@@homesteadedman4784 May just take you up on that. We have a summer trip with Acadia NP at the tail end. So we will be in Maine mid July. Plan on hitting Canada to hit that sweet clamming spot on the new moon on 6/24 and 6/25. It's 5 1/2 hours from Acadia. Not sure where you are in Maine, you could join us though.
Hello, your building looks really nice. I'm looking at doing board and batten on my gable as well. Did you put drain holes anywhere in the bottom J-channel to let the water run out?
Hello DallasJ welcome to the channel. Thanks for the nice compliment. To answer your question about drain holes, no I did not put any. I will say that I think the 1-foot overhang helps keep a lot of water off the siding. Good luck with your project. Cheers Edman
What neat project. I love vintage American products. Nice!
Hello Forrest!! Nice to see you! I went camping a few times but didn't get to use it as my luck was it rained every time we went. I didn't want to buy a new one the vintage one is twice the quality of the newer ones. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great weekend stay warm. Cheers Edman

Hi Uniquelyyours! they are so good. I have made it several times over the summer and fall. Looks good, edman. Now I'm hungry, lol. How's things been with you? Very busy for me. Hopefully, I will make it up to the cabin soon.
Hello BLam. You should make a pot of those beans, you'll have some tasty meals for a few days, they are super good. I hope you get some cabin time soon. We received 5" snow here last night. They called for rain, and we got snow. I'll take it, I wouldn't mind an old-fashioned heavy snow fall winter again like the old days, I'm sick of freezing rain. I hope you are well my friend! cheers Edman

Have you found their to be any rhyme or reason for them to be 12 inches or deeper up to 18 inches? Wind, weather, moon phase?

I don't put any water in the pot. The clams contain enough water. Put the clams in the pot over a medium flame and cover. There will be plenty of broth when they are cooked. Sometimes I'll add beer or white wine for flavor.

I happened to swing by and see you cooking up some steamers just the way we used to back in the day... I sure do have GOOD memories of those feasts! When I was in summer camp as a young boy, they had an official clam bake - the big hole dug in the ground, the fires on the rocks, lined with seaweed, then the clams and lobsters laid in layers in seaweed with corn on the cob, then covered with a tarp for an hour or so - Never was I so happy with eating the bounty of the ocean! Wish I was there to help you consume some of those steamers there, Mr. Ed! You do it right! Have a great weekend, amigo!
Hello Sam, thank you for swinging by. (I was away from the computer yesterday and this morning). That's an awesome story my friend. I'm not proud to say but I have never been to that style of clam bake. I would love to experience one though. I wish you could visit Maine for a steamer feed! Thanks Sam it really put a smile on my face to see your name here and your comment. It's a beautiful weekend, I hope it is likewise on the Island. Have a great weekend! Cheers Edman
I wondered if you were going to say you enjoyed steamers more than lobster. Me too. We enjoy cooking them outside and eating them while standing around the picnic table withe them piled high on the table, whether there are two of us or ten of us. Sometimes I think eating steamed MAINE seafood outside enhances the whole experience.
Hello knpn4jc5v welcome. Thanks for the nice comment. Sounds like you guys know how to enjoy a good seafood feed. I agree cooking outside is the best, maybe that's why I enjoy camping so much. I think that steamers are sweeter and taste better than lobster. Lobsters to me are too much work for not enough meat. Thanks for watching have a great weekend! Cheers Edman
You’re lucky, the mud seems quite firm, the mud around here is much softer requiring hip boots. Nice clams though
Hello kn9pn4jc5v welcome! Yes, this spot is the easiest digging around here mostly sand, that was about as muddy as it gets on that particular area. That mud can be like quicksand. Thanks for watching and the nice comment! Hae a great weekend! Cheers Edman
