Ecosystem of Perl programming: sometimes thriving, sometimes dormant but never asleep. But the animation is great, would love to know more about how it was done, so I'd be able to do one myself.
aha, I finally get it.
lol
its always fun to watch gource visualisations of open source repos :D
like ants on an orange
soooooooooooooo funny
@kanruchen Apparently it has to connect to a recognition server. Not really built-in right now.
It works on Linux, too!
@wwwpwndcom Yeah, cause I hate when people enjoy things for the wrong reasons.
@tapp3r close. they're developing the actual interpreter and language. In essence everything that is Perl. Judging by the first date in the video (3-26-1989) this is from Perl 3 and onward to (2-22-2010). Which I'm guessing is both adapting Perl 5 and probably working on the yet to be released, Perl 6. --- As you said it's all the developers/programmers that have probably committed changes to the Perl source.
@mattkleifgen You can see Larry Wall in the very beginning. If you really want to trace this, you're gonna have to get good at pausing.
Gotta love all the kids coming on here not knowing what the fuck it is and still bothering to thumbs down and comment. Seriously people. RUclips isn't just for mindless idiots like yourselves.
i don't get it
@Johannady A programming language.
This is probably quite amazing for people who know this and care for it. Personally I don't know anything about programming, except for the fact that I know that this is programming. lol. Obviously what we see is people, developers and programmers practically developing something called "perl". The tiny MSN-characters are the developers and programmers, each one of them are doing something specific. I suppose they're making some sort of program. It's not science.
man this video alone must've taken a long time to make
what program was used to make this?
ok... dont get it
"Perl development history in less then 4 minutes" <- spot the mistake!
wat
So is the single blue developer for a while Larry Wall?
It needs no techno music: it needs a couple of sports commentators giving a blow-by-blow account and some color on the players. You would probably have to slow it down a little.
It needs techno music to go along with the commits
