I Made one Big Drawing for Inktober 2024: Behind the Scenes
This year, I made one large drawing in micron pen combining all of the Inktober prompts. In this video, see how I prepared to make the drawing and worked my way through the whole month.

Painting Some fun Birds for Mother's Day
Thank you for the glimpse into your working methods.
You just flashed me back to 1978 sitting in front of a black and white tv watching Sesame Street....Nice drawing btw.
Thank you! Glad I could bring back some good memories!
So much ink gets laid down in this drawing. How many pens did you go through?
Okay, so I've been thinking about this and I think I used about 4 pens worth of ink. It's hard to say exactly because some of the pens I started with had been used for other projects and I was using 3 pen sizes. Those micron pens can last a surprisingly long time if the nib doesn't get chewed up too much.
Is this Bristol paper?
It's Strathmore 500 Mixed Media paper. I did a video comparing sketchbooks where I talk about why I prefer the mixed media over the Bristol paper if you want to hear more about that: ruclips.net/video/f62F7reZMVU/видео.html
I LIVE for art like this! Super detailed and realistic!
Thank you!! It's my favorite too. I enjoy that feeling of really "diving deep" into the subject.
This is PHENOMENAL! I love this!
Awesome!
Nice work. I enjoyed watching you work. BTW, what type of vehicles' interior is that? I love the details.
Thank you! It's an FJ Cruiser. It's a fun car!
@laurenslatestproject oh, ok. I thought so. Pretty good guys on my part. Ha!
Your Inktober 2024 project was totally amazing. Your attention to detail and ability to create such a variety of textures with Microns is mind boggling. I’ve enjoyed watching you work.
Thank you so much!!
I love every detail so far. And I understand the feeling of finishing a very detail part of a **very** unfinished drawing 😂 the contrast is so good that I sometimes become hyper-fixated on it even though it takes like half a morning to get it done. Anyway, love your shading style. May I ask, do you go to art school or have education in art-related areas? 'Cause the skill level of your art is so good😩
Thank you!! I appreciate that. Getting sucked into a detailed drawing for long hours is real. It's nice to meet someone else who understands! I took some art classes when I was much younger, which helped give me a basic foundation. My degree, however was in music and I pretty much stopped doing much drawing or painting for many years to focus on music. When all the covid lockdowns happened, most of the music stuff stopped and I was bored so I decided to get back into my art. I spent a lot of time watching videos and things, but most of what I learned about drawing was from online library books about drawing techniques. Some of the best ones out there are 100 years old and free from the library. It was amazing what people could do with just hatching back when most things were printed in black and white.
Your dedication to your art is inspiring.
Thanks!
Really love this style of Inktober. This is the first Inktober for me. Really enjoying the challenge of some of the words. But you have drawn even the most boring words into something really interesting. ❤
Thank you! Congrats on doing your first Inktober! I think there is so much to learn each time. Sometimes I think the most fun comes from trying to do something creative with words that aren't very inspiring. I like to ask the people in my life for ideas. Sometimes they come up with interpretations I would never think of and it makes it fun for them to see what you draw.
Really enjoyed your artwork and the concept of amalgamating all the prompts into one big picture is great. Looking forward to seeing the whole thing. If I may make one little comment, the shakiness and wobbliness of your video was quite distracting. If you could find a way to stabilize the image a bit, it would much better. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you!! Yes, I think especially this first week things ended up a bit shaky. I'm trying to concentrate a bit more on that in the later videos for the month.
Your level of details is crazy!! And the idea of combining all the promts is also so good! Keep up the great work, I'm really looking forward to the final result <3
Thank you!! It has been a fun challenge trying to figure out how to put all of them together.
As an artist myself, your skill level is awesome. Looking forward to watching more of your vids. Cheers.
Thank you!!
Looking forward to seeing your Inktober drawings!
Thanks! I'm excited for it to start!
hi..just came across your channel..really like your videos and the fact that you make it fun and not so serious..I see u are good at drawing too! can u do a video of you just drawing something like this in perspective in real time..thats where I have th most difficulty esp outdoors in 3D! thanks a bunch..
Thanks for watching! I've been thinking about this and I like this idea. When it cools down here a bit more, I might give a real time video a try. I can't believe that it's nearly Halloween and still 95 degrees outside!
amazing illustration!! ❤ i love itt, thats very relaxing to watch!!
Thank you very much!
Id love a print of this!!
Wow, you live in a gorgeous place. Greetings from the Netherlands!
Very cool how you used the different mediums, thanks for the upload!
I painted plein air more than usual but wasn’t able to do it every day. Congrats on doing that! I enjoyed your videos.
Thank you!
❤
Beautiful. I love the foreground detail
Thanks!
It would be interesting to see this one side by side with the photograph, to see what elements you kept, and where you went in a different direction. Only one more day of pleinairpril, and it looks like you had a really good time.
I like it! (You have a lot of patience!)
Really beautiful sketch! ❤ I’m so amazed how you use the markers, so different how I would do it but you create really cool art.
Oh good. You found some nice flowers.
We usually have all sorts of interesting wildflowers this time of year, but it was cold and wet for too long. Bill had spotted these lovely red flowers on his walks. Apparently they are called Baja Fairy Duster and are found in Baja, Mexico.
That is absolutly fantastic. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Gosh I am dreaming of trying Pitt markers. But ended up just using colored pencils. They look really nice maybe one day I grab a set.
What a nice night out.
There's something so fun about watch the moonrise. Nothing and then very suddenly it just pops up out of nowhere and is already above the horizon in about 5 minutes. The fun part that night was that Bill was showing me the moon's position on an app and the second he did, it popped out from behind the mountain as if on cue.
Works for me. Sunset, wispy sky, mysterious duck.
Awesome art work, beautiful sharing 🌹❤️💯👍
Awesome ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
I agree that even if my dog is napping on the couch, she'll move before I can complete a full sketch; but you captured a lot of detail with the markers -- I just purchased a Lyra polycolor pencil set that's all grey, black and white because I love limited color sketches.
Thanks for the demo. Also live in Gilbert.
Fun painting!
Thanks!
'Awkward phase' is a perfect description. I have plenty of drawings in different stages of completion which I paused permanently while they were still in the awkward zone
It takes a lot of willpower to finish some of those, especially if you're not sure where you would like it to end up!
Love it. RUclips recommended your channel and I watched a couple of your demonstrations over lunch. Wish it was hot here
Thank you!! I had a lot of fun doing this. It was nice to enjoy being outside every day during the last bit of tolerable weather here.
I just got my set of Pitts this morning and I was really enjoying using them with water like a wash of colour, I might try to use them as an under painting for watercolour or gouache! :) Nice video. Weather has been damp and cold all spring here so I have yet to brave it sketching outside.
Using them as an underpainting would probably work wonderfully. I have found them to be impressively waterproof. I haven't been able to smear them at all, which I have sometimes been able to do with regular India Ink. And thank you! Once it gets too hot to be outside here you'll probably have great weather for sketching where you are. I usually like to travel somewhere farther north so I can enjoy that nice weather for a bit during the summer.
♥that monochrome drawing
Thank you!!
Nice!
Thanks!
I love trees too. Have tons in my sketch book. Really liked the fun paint splatters.
Thank you!!
ohh your artwork looks so pretty!! ❤❤keep up the good work!
Thanks!!
Good light effects. Nice work.👍
Thanks!!
Just discovered your channel. I got myself a few colours of these to try portraits and landscapes with lots of mark making. :) You did an incredible job with that limited palette.
Thank you!! I have to say these markers have really given me a lot of new ideas. They are very enjoyable to work with.
Beautiful work ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
