DIY 3D PRINTED WEIR INSTALL
I've been working on a design for an overflow weir for a long time and came up with something that works. It's also something that Adam Keller at Custom Aquariums came up with first, and patented (with one of the best written patents I've ever seen). This is the install of my design.

A not so boring update for Feb 17th
Просмотров 224 года назад
It's sunday and time to shoot and edit a video. I made a few design changes to the tank, and took some pictures of fish. Nothing awesome, but I think it looks a little better, and there's more room for improvement now. Also, the next fish I'm going to add is revealed!

It's been a while, sorry about that! Life got in the way. This weeks update is a collection from the last month, covering improvements and the freshwater Angelfish that finally made it to the tank!

Finally! After 7 months of work on the project, there are finally fish in my 180 gallon aquarium! Also, and update on all the things that have changed since I filmed last. There was nearly a month where I didn't pick up my GoPro. Sorry! Finally, big thanks to Beyond the Reef and Aquarium CoOp for being good stores with helpful employees. I love buying from you two.

I planted the tank! Unfortunately, the GoPro ate the footage of planting. Sorry. Thanks to Aquarium Coop for having great shipping for live plants, and SR Aquaristik and Beyond the Reef for stocking cool stone.

A quick update on the hardscape for the 180 project. I'm still learning this whole aquascaping thing. The goal isn't a competition tank. Just something to keep the fish happy that I can stare at for hours. Drilling the 75 gallon sump

After the demise of the 55 I used as a sump, I spent some time trying to find a replacement. I failed. I picked up this 75 at the Petco DPG sale to turn it into my new sump.

Drilling the 180

Drilling the display tank. I needed to put a pair of 1.5" holes in my 180 gallon display tank for a Herbie overflow to my sump filter. Here's the process. Including an oops that hurt.
A long awaited update

The old 55 I used for my sump cracked. I’ve been trying to deal with that for a while. Here’s where we are now. Just a quick phone video to get everyone up to speed.

      I need to. Apparently stuffing it in the zip ties isn’t good enough as it’s broken free twice.

    You have way more patience than I do! You could get a small snorkeling Santa from Petsmart for your bathtub or maybe a cute mermaid. Jealous of your blue and green platies, did you get them somewhere local?

      AlhanaTsuki thanks! I sent a message on the Discord but I’ll answer here too. This group is 6-7 groups of fry from the original breeding group of 6 (2 blue, 2 red wag, 2 sunset Mickey). We started in Feb, with the 6, and now we have like 100 fish.

    Herbie overflow?

    • @davesaquariums
      @davesaquariums 4 года назад

      Yeah. One pipe at full siphon, and the other 'emergency' overflow getting just a trickle. Balance controlled by a gate valve. It's working pretty well.

    You could just tear the tank apart and replace the glass and save yourself the cost of a new tank

    • @davesaquariums
      @davesaquariums 4 года назад

      I ended up replacing it with something else. That video comes out next week. I did keep the glass though. The rims both shattered with gentle removal pressure. It was a disaster waiting to happen. I figure after a month or two it would have dropped a panel catastrophically.

  • @orionphoenix8918
    @orionphoenix8918 4 года назад

    You could still keep that. Clean the glass Cut a 5/8 piece of plywood, coat it in liquid rubber, while it's still kind of wet set the bottom on the wood coated in rubber, do the same for the walls and fasten it, clean the inside and put a .25" layer of silicone across the bottom, raise the dividers and Bob's your uncle. No you cant see in it anymore but big tanks cost more than some rubber wood silicone and screws
