Oahu hikes, what to expect? Exploring 4 completely different hikes to show the options you have.
Aloha! Welcome back again, this video will show the variations in hikes you can find on O'ahu. I didn't do as many as I wished to do but these were the ones I managed to do and they give a glimpse of what to expect.
What do you think of these options? I would like to go back one day and see more. But for now this is what I could do.

    George Harrison had a waterfront estate somewhere near Hana and spent a lot of time there. I knew a guy who worked at an auto dealership in Kahului years ago, who had the pleasure of driving George back to his home after he'd dropped off his car for service. Imagine having a 2 hour long private chat with a Beatle in your car? He said he was a very unpretentious guy. You know you could have just put some of your drinking water in the wiper fluid reservoir and buy more drinking water in Hana. A cheap immediate fix. Too bad you get car sick, that Hana Highway is amazing. The way you went you drove right by Charles Lindburgh's grave.

      Wow that would be such a unique experience! I know that many celebrities live there so I guess the chances are high to meet one. Yeah I know but I reckoned I was almost there anyway so I just waited. Yes for me such things wouldn't be enjoyable because I am just to focused on getting through and out of it and not on looking around. Once I took a boat tour to watch dolphines and I took my pill to late and in the end we did see many dolphins but the biggest memory I have is just how bad I wanted to get of that boat, I couldn't enjoy the dolphins. So I learned that it's not worth it when you feel bad, you can't enjoy it. Yes I knew it was somewhere there but I didn't have time anymore to look for it.

    Report him to Airbnb. You were sharing a bathroom with someone who injects himself? The yelling and the whispering. Do your fellow travelers a favor and report him. He will have to clean up his act or get kicked off the Airbnb platform. None of this is the fault of the traveler. If you left right when the troubled started Airbnb would have refunded you. The guy needs to know how to run a hospitality business. He probably get paid by the government to house that guy. Choose one or the other Mr. Owner, hospitality or rehab center.

    • @thecluelesstraveller
      @thecluelesstraveller 24 дня назад

      I gave the owner the benefit of the doubt and I didn't want to leave again and pack my stuff etc, the other stuff I noticed during the rest of the week and yeah if I would have known before I wouldn't have stayed there but I figured I need a place to work and that the rest of the day I would just be away. The owner told me he just started to rent out that particular room and normally doesn't do that. He has only good reviews on Airbnb for the other unit in the front. So I reckoned it wasn't malicious or anything. And I didn't want to be that person that leaves and says "yeah all was fine" and slam him with a nasty review afterwards. So what I did was leave a normal review on the platform but I left him a personal message and honest opinion and feedback, so he can improve. I want to give people a chance to improve. So maybe he did something with the advice who knows. I am not here to judge anybody

    I would contact Airbnb and skipped out of that place to be honest. Since you've commented about car culture in America vs where you are from Europe I would be interested in your take as to why that is. To me I haven't been to Europe but I have been to Japan and love the public transport there (at least in the major cities as rural places generally need a car) and I think the zoning in America is a big problem. In Japan you can easily walk to a convenience store / drug store / doctors office and all kinds of commercial businesses within a neighborhood. In America that basically never happens. Instead you have huge sections almost entirely dedicated to residential housing and then huge areas for commercial businesses. The only cities I've been to in the US with what I consider good public transport to potentially make a car not needed are San Fran and New York- Manhattan. Both are geographically restricted and hence have a fairly population dense area great for public transport. To a lesser degree Seattle has a somewhat decent although more limited system. America also seems much more spread out and rural. Take your trip to Hawaii for example- was either location you stayed at within 30 minutes of a major grocery store/drug store? Probably not and those are most likely several hundreds of thousand dollar homes.

    • @thecluelesstraveller
      @thecluelesstraveller 24 дня назад

      Yeah I gave it the benefit of the doubt because I just got there and didn't want to change immediatly. But it was definitely strange the whole week. I left him a very honest long feedback but not a negative public one. I want to give people the chance to improve and not be this kind of person that walks away and says "all was good" and smack them with a negative review online.

    • @thecluelesstraveller
      @thecluelesstraveller 24 дня назад

      I think the USA is not very clear on it's own rules many times and they are to flexible with the rules. Taking right turns on red?? very dangerous because it's a window where 2 lanes could meet, aka accident potential. Also on the motorway they can overtake left right or the middle, to me it's like American roulette, Here that's very illegal. You only overtake on the left and that's it. Next to that the teenage drivers learn driving with their parents, they get their licenses as if it was in a Kellogs box. Then there is the customisation stuff, what is this? Disney land? Driving a car is serious, all these crazy things make it dangerous and look more like a game maybe. And yes walkability is non existend in the USA, I also caught myself driving from one car park to another where I would normally just walk that bit. It doesn't invite walking at all.

  • @Komainu959
    @Komainu959 27 дней назад

    It's unfortunate that the match wasn't better but so long as both sides can learn from it all is not lost. That snorkel spot you spoke of 2-step is indeed a very good spot but it is not appropriate if you are not at least an average swimmer or with someone who is as it isn't a "stand up" if you need kind of spot. In fact it's not too hard to swim out a little and be in deep blue water where you cannot see the bottom despite it being clear water.

    Bruh, you can't just drive where you want or go where you want. This is common knowledge even if you live here. You don't just come up and explore whatever you want to. You MUST ask permission or show respect. Do not ever cross kanaka, you should have done more research or had common courtesy to not do any of what you did. Maui must be respected you're lucky no one jumped you. Be careful to those who come here, even us residents don't just go where we want. We show aloha

    • @thecluelesstraveller
      @thecluelesstraveller Месяц назад

      Well normally you can unless signs tell you otherwise. There were no signs here, nothing mentioned. I didn't see any "Kapu" sign. It was an abandoned area which was once commercially used I think, something touristic maybe I don't know. So if it was holy or something it wouldn't have been used like that in the first place, there was also garbage everywhere and broken down cars so that doesn't look like a holy place to me otherwise why would you treat it like that? This was just a case of some hoodlems seeing an opportunity and showing the common problem around the island of break ins unfortunately. And btw is being jumped accepted? So in otherwords violence is excused when you accidentally go somewhere? I followed all the rules during my stay on the island and respected and learned about the culture as much as possible.

    • @MandaHawaii
      @MandaHawaii Месяц назад

      @thecluelesstraveller it doesn't matter if anything is holy. This is a lesson for all tourists, don't come unless you can respect the island. Like I said as a resident, you don't just walk wherever you want. Even being in shared spaces with locals you must show respect and ask if you can be there. There are plenty of public spaces not marked that you must ask and be kind because of the locals. It's the way it is here, if you don't like it, get jumped then idk. Crime exists everywhere but when you come here and just assume you can wonder into unmarked roads, yikes....you'll end up hurt or worse. Be careful next time you're here, I would never ever ever just go where I wanted and I've been here a very long time.

    • @MandaHawaii
      @MandaHawaii Месяц назад

      @thecluelesstraveller and absolutely you can get jumped and cops will not help you. I promise. It's why ppl move off island, cause if you cross someone they can do what they want it's their land. I've been told this first hand by mpd

    • @thecluelesstraveller
      @thecluelesstraveller 18 дней назад

      I came and made friends and nobody told me about these things, that I had to ask permission? Never heard anybody telling me this, I generally had zero problems on Hawaii, this was the only one. Just about the break in problems. I respected everything and everybody but you can't expect people to magicially know this if there aren't any signs. So it's justified to use violence if someone just walks somewhere? Interesting logic...

    • @thecluelesstraveller
      @thecluelesstraveller 18 дней назад

      Again I haven't heard anything about this or had any warnings about it. This is a very flawed logic and cavemen mentality. violence is never the answer, if you just talk to someone and tell them they would leave, very simple. If someone walks into an area where they aren't supposed to be someone just tells them and they leave. Simple as that because we live in a modern society and not use words over violence. So even the police admitting this is very worrisome. Culture doesn't excuse violence. So thanks for pointing it out but it's sad if it works likes this.

      Oh yeah for 6 days it’s a lot of running around for sure. I hope the weather works for ya. Important is to be flexible and not to forget to enjoy and not to try to push to many things in a day. It’s a bummer you one have 6 days but not impossible. I would do a hike one day and maybe a swim the next. The volcano early or late (sunset sunrise isn’t so different after all). Are you also doing Hana in these 6 days?

      @@thecluelesstraveller thanks for the tips! Yes because we are coming from the East Coast (Virginia Beach) we have 2 travel days on the front and 2 travel days on the back, we just bought a business a year ago and unfortunately my husband can’t be away from it longer. We already pushing it with being gone 10 days total. Lol. Since we live at the beach we aren’t really planning a lot of beach time but I do have our itinerary spaced out a bit. I have reservations at Waianapanapa State Park so we will definitely be doing Hana one day, we have a Doors Off Helicopter tour of West Maui and Molokai scheduled another day, planning on doing Haleakala for sunset that same day, going to the Nakalele Blowhole another day, and stopping at Black Rock Beach on the way back so my two sons (ages 17 & 26) can jump from the rock. We have a Luau scheduled one evening, and I have several hikes on my list that we want to do in between. It’s going to be a busy 6 days, but we will more than likely never come back so we want to see as much as we can. But we have all agreed if we need rest and relax time we are all okay with scraping plans last minute. It will certainly be an adventure either way.

      Ah right ok that makes sense, when you have your own business every off day is unpaid of course. I have been to the east coast in 2016, it was pretty cool! So you seem to have a tight schedule indeed, crikey! haha The helicopter thing sounds amazing, I mostly skipped on paying for things because it's bloody expensive everywhere. I wanted to show you can also have fun without paying for activities there. Considering the Luau I wouldn't pay for that, there is a big Mall at Wailea (I forgot the name) it's a big luxury mall, you can't miss it. They have 2 Luau nights for free! and also other activities. If you go there you can say hi to friend of mine (if he is there). He works at Martin and MacArthur (it's in a corner at the main square) His name is Joshua, really nice guy and he could definitely give you some tips about Maui or have a drink with him. Anyway it's smart to not over do it indeed. Did you see my car break in video....? It's something to watch out for over there
