Welcome to my little piece of the internet...
I'm Pam (she/her), a 50 year old mother of a BUNCH of humans (most of them adults now, but with 2 younglings still at home) and pets.
I'm a full time data and information manager who is fully obsessed with all types of needlework but I primarily focus on cross stitch, which is why I'm here.
But I also talk about all the other rabbitholes that I fall down:
Microsoft Excel
Language learning (French, Irish, Welsh, Spanish, Arabic)
pens and calligraphy
cats...
Knitting
Embroidery
I am a adult living with ADHD and navigating life using needlework as my therapy...

Flosstube #24 - Coming up Quakers

Its been 2 weeks since I did a video and time to chatter away like a squirrel on caffeine. The past fortnight has been pretty quaker heavy for me working on the Halloween Quaker and starting the Autumn Quaker as part of @Pocket_Rottie_Crafts 's birthday round robin. I've had a Saskatoon adventure, and my Hobonichi order has arrived Projects 1. Moon Phase Bell Pull on 32 ct Aurora Borealis from ...

This one took FOREVER to get filmed, it seemed that as soon as I would start talking someone would need or want something (or just make noise in the other room). I have been feeling a little discouraged lately because I haven't really been able to relax or go do things outside work and parenting... Cards of the day: 19 the Sun and 9 of Wands Projects: 1. Where I discuss my experience at Stitch North (and how I really screwed it up)... This has NOT been a good week for me and I probably shouldn't keep trying so hard, but its who I am... Having had a bit of space from my feelings of overwhelm I have regrets about not being able to go to Stitch North 2025.

Flosstube #1: Intro is this thing on?
I always you to the end 🍁
I am sorry I typed too much stuff... I enjoyed your stitching. Have a awesome day!
Aw that’s ok! I actually enjoy reading the comments
Enjoyed catching up with you while I stitched on your Forest Path. And I am a-ok with 40 count. Your autumn Quaker is looking great!
Great! I seem to be in a 40 ct kick right now lol
Like listening to you while stitching. Take care 😊
Thank you! I have been enjoying your videos as well! I love learning about different designers and needlework types! The beading traditional style is so beautiful and not something that I have seen often!
@HobbiesAndHyperfocus Thank you 😊
Hey 👋🏻
Hi Pam! It was so nice to see a flosstube from you again. You’ve made great progress on your pieces! I need to get my Autumn is as Joyful stitch back out again soon too. It’s my first and only project on 40 count (so far) and I love it. Love those blackwork patterns too. Have a good one!
I bought an Unconventional XStitch chart too, even though I really, really don’t need another full coverage start. I abandoned my HAED a long time ago, but it feels good to support her with the community. Glad you’re feeling better after your tumble!
Thanks. I have yet to go down the full coverage rabbit hole but it’s the least I can do to support another stitcher
@@HobbiesAndHyperfocus She does have some smaller charts as well. Under the menu, you can look through the charts by size. That’s what I did because I didn’t want to start another huge full coverage piece that I would never finish.
🦃couldn't find pumpkin or leaf so a turkey it is!
If it’s reversed you could do your top stitch the other way ❤
👻🎃🦇🧙♀️ I ended up starting Autumn is as Joyful last night and it is so good. I too love squirrels, Steph really picked a great pattern. I would definitely be interested in more planner/journaling content too.
It's so good! I am loving the Quaker style lately too
I always watch to the end 😊🌸
Thank you so much!
🎃🍂🍁 I had to start Autumn is as Joyful yesterday too and I am loving it so far! It’s my first project ever on 40 count. I decided just to stitch it myself and not join the round robin, but Steph picked such a good pattern for her SAL!
I know! I joined her with the round robin option and so far i have put in 8 hours and I LOVE this pattern! This is my round robin year so lets see how this goes with a larger piece LOL
Started my moon phase bell pull today as well! White stitches.... ugh.
You got this! I’m starting with black… so much black
Started my moon phase bell pull while watching your video. Thanks for the company! 🌒🌒🌒
Wonderful! I didn’t get much done but I started
I really like your fox.
Thank you!
Pam, I love seeing all of your beautiful projects! And I’m going to jump on the train and say you are absolutely part of this community and we love you. And you don’t have to try to be anything other than exactly who you are. I love the awkward because I’m the same way so I absolutely relate to you and I love watching people I can relate to. So just keep doing exactly what you’re doing, as long as it makes you happy. You do have an audience here and we love seeing your videos! Your Cathedral Woods Goddess is looking so good and I love that fabric choice! I need to get mine back out and work on her soon. I got my fabric for the Moon Phase Bell Pull late as well, so I’ll start on the next full moon with you! And I had to use just blending filament on one of my older Mira patterns in a fairy’s wings. I doubled it, but recommend securing it to your needle with a knot because it’s quite slippery and will slip out of the needle eye easily. But it does look very cool in wings! 💜
Thank you!!! I’m going to start my moon phases on the new moon (Sept 2) I didn’t think of doubling the blending filament but tying it to the needle makes so much sense!!! Thank you!!!!
I totally feel you on feeling isolated. I work from home 100% and I often feel so disconnected from even my own team. Just share the things that bring you joy, that's how I try to approach it. Im almost completely enabled into starting the SAL for Steph's birthday 😅
Yes, working from home is so difficult for the isolation. I’m an introvert but being completely alone for extended periods is also difficult, and not having a stitch friend can make it worse. I ordered another piece of 40 count because I REALLY want to do Steph’s piece
I second everything Steph said. You are part of this community. Don't get caught up in the numbers. I don't record regularly enough for the algo-monster to even notice me so I don't worry about it. If it helps, I've only got 185 subscribers, so you are doing better than I am. 😅 I hope you'll keep going - I love seeing what you're working on, it's all so different from my projects. And if you do want some suggestions, tag your videos with key search terms (if you don't already.) Also A LOT of folks search for Flosstube #1 to find new people to watch straight through and "catch up" with. I'll definitely mention you on my next video (can't guarantee when that'll be.) 😁 I have a feeling we have a lot of overlap viewers.
Thank you! I hate the feeling of isolation and that I'm not sure what i'm doing LOL.
I haven't gotten my bell pull stuff yet either. Maybe we can start together!!
I do flosstube to share what I am doing...if people watch. If they don't, no biggie. I don't focus on the numbers. I don't edit. I film, slap on intro and outro..and send it out to the world. You ARE a part of the community, even if you don't feel like you are. I still have a hard time believing I am an adult..but bills and work remind me that I am. I am Steph..i am someone. I am starting a project and invited others...i have no expectations and am stoked to have others actually joining. Please keep sharing your crafting, I enjoy seeing it. Kudos on time tracking, I would not be able to do that. Love Cathedral Woods Goddess!!
Thank you for the reminder! I often struggle with being alone so much and I guess my wanting to do FlossTube is because I want to be connected with others. It feels like no one else has this hobby locally and I feel awkward on zoom groups so I avoid Zooms unless I know people well… I’m also TERRIBLE at starting things on time but I finally got involved in the round robins and swaps, so I’m slowly getting out there…
I like how that magazine piece is coming together. I don't remember the words but I think last time you said it was a thousand somethings.
Its Irish and the words mean "100,000 Welcomes"
The Mirabilias you chose are so pretty! I cant wait to visit Lizzy B's soon❤
pssst... hi. Autumn is as joyful I am planning to start for my birthday this year and doing round robin style, the more the merrier.. you know how to reach me. My birthday is in September., and coming up way too fast. The purple fabric would probably go best with the brighter mira, i don't remember the name. I am behind on stitch for pride too.
Thank you! I knew there were a few people doing the Autumn is as Joyful so I figured I would find all of you somehow LOL Thanks for the advice... both are Miras I want to start so I guess whichever is best for the purple fabric I will start first LOL!
Congratulations on the anniversary. It's hard to put yourself out there and it's a cool accomplishment. Also, I love the weather plot and think you should do more data graphs. How about a scatter plot of mood versus temperature?
Oh! I wonder how that would work! I’m a big graph person lol
Framing really makes the work pop, but I get what you mean about the green mat. matte? Matt?
Yeah. The framers like to go subtle. It works and my living room is orange so it’s not too dull, but next piece I will try something a bit more dramatic lol
audibly gasped when i saw the mermaids of the sea SAL!! 😍😍 absolutely gorgeous, also who do you trust for framing in sask? i need to know!
I usually take my framing to Dandelion Art and Framing in Saskatoon
@@HobbiesAndHyperfocus thank you❤️❤️
Beautiful ffo Be bold and choose the bright colors next time 😊 I always sign my finishes. Only when I model stitch I don’t sign
Thank you! I am saving up for a few more full framing finishes… and I’m going to be more bold because the work needs it lol
Love the FFO of Tigerlily! And your Mermaids of the Seasons looks amazing! I need to spend some serious catch up time with mine because I haven’t even gotten two of them complete yet.
I love Tiger Lilly!! She looks amazing, and I’m sure you’ll get those mattes figured out. As for signing, sometimes I personalize, but I also figure I’ll write/put a sticker in the back with the details (if/when fully finished!)
I haven’t put the stickers on but that’s a great idea
Ooh she looks great! I love it!
Thank you! 😄
I am like you in so many ways…initialed and dated all my stitches 25 years ago (my year will be much bigger than yours), then took a long break and now I am trying to figure out how to do it so it fits the design nicely. I am also a Canadian flosstuber early in my journey. And, I like 40 count for its size but it is hard on my eyes and is not relaxing so I do 20 count Aida. Just personal preference and keeping things enjoyable. Good luck with the dental surgery.
Thank you! I’m 50 so not a “spring chicken” anymore and yeah 25 years ago I dated everything… now it’s kinda hot and miss lol
I so enjoy your videos and love the inclusiveness you embrace.
Thank you so much!
Interesting discussions about being a process stitcher. I hadn't thought about the monogamous process stitcher before, so this is fascinating. Your FFO of Tigerlily is gorgeous! -Stephanie
Yeah if “process stitching” is just for the fun or enjoyment of the work then I have always been a process stitch person rather than a product stitcher. But I also didn’t realize how much fun multiple WIPS were until Jan 1, 2023 lol
Your mermaid SAL looks fantastic!! I do initials on some things but not all. Most of the time I forget. I don't do anything on 40 count... other than round robin piece that is one of my group members project. 28 count over 1 would be same as 56 count over two... so that would be small enough for me and possible without eye strain. I record when hubby is at work because dogs stay calm when he is not here.... usually. Yes that was 2023 spring fling. I need to get to dentist... least favorite thing ever. I have a tooth doing weird stuff and of course is one in back...ugh.
Thank you! I survived the dentist so now it’s just the recovery part lol.
You popped up and I'm very glad you did. It's always great to find a flosstuber who stitches a lot of Miras!! Steph
Do not let your accrued vacation get too high. Your work are such considerate people that I wouldn't trust them to pay it out at the end, but I do trust them to suddenly put a cap on how much you can roll over without paying it out then either. I'm sorry they're so gleefully inconsiderate. The bonus murderpodcast was a pretty unexpected direction for the tangent. And congrats on the followers.
Yeah that WAS a huge tangent lol.
💜 Im finally able to catch up on your videos! I was also feeling the EXACT SAME because i get super overwhelmed in crowds. I had to leave every hour or so for my own mental health. Please dont feel alone, or weird. I'm not able to attend next year and I'm not sure if I'll be jumping for another anytime soon, but I hope we get to meet up in person again someday! 💜
Thank you! I have spent most of my life feeling super overwhelmed... and so i think i will be trying every 2 - 3 years for in person events. My work schedule will not work out for either weekend anyway... but maybe 2026? LOL
Yay you recorded!!! I do not like your workplace... they are clearly not supportive. I am so sorry that you are having to deal with so much bs because they dragged their feet on getting another person. Both parents are responsible for the children, you should not be responsible for everything on your own. I am sorry you don't have a supportive spouse either.
My job has been stressful since the new CFO came in and has changed a lot of rules and requirements
Omgoodness the purple fabric Sea withc is on is incredible. I cant believe you finished her! Did you get a lot done at Stitch North?!
I did most of Tiger Lily at Stitch North, I just didn’t have the kreinik so I didn’t get to ring the bell lol
My local Fedex Office has a poster copier that I take my Mira patterns to so I can have a working copy of the pattern that gets destroyed and not the original. They charge $1.75 a side, which while not cheap, is much less expensive than having to order another pattern. I've been told that Staples and Office Max/Depot may also have printer/copiers that can handle large and unusual sizes. Maybe there's something similar in your neck of the woods? I hope that's somewhat helpful.
Thanks! During my first marriage I was married to an engineer and he had access to a large format printer that they use for architectural drawings called a plotter and that was GREAT it could do the whole thing super easily. At one time the Staples here wouldn't allow you to copy ANYTHING that might be copy right... but my office now has a printer that can print up to 11x17 which seems to work relatively well so that's what I've been using lately
Those Mira/Nora finishes are great!
Thanks!!! I’m hoping to get at least one framed
Love your Nora's and Mira's! Such beautiful work
🥰
Congrats on the finishes!! The floss wall is looking great!
Thanks! I’m going slowly on the wall, but since I’m going to be working from the basement part of the summer I’ll get a lot done
You've done well with this. You're so much more comfortable than you were when you started.
Thank you… sometimes it is easier than others lol
Well that sucks pretty spectacularly. I'm so sorry it went so awkwardly for you. I know that feeling personally, and it's a really crappy one even with anxiety. Don't stress about going back next year, especially if you have to decide that quickly. But you can think about going the year after, when you've had some time to process and figure out what part is your anxiety and what part was being in an unknown environment. If you did choose a next time, you'd know more about what to expect and that would make it a whole lot less anxious. That's later. Right now, just pet your cats and decompress.
I'm sorry to hear it was a mixed bag for you at Stitch North. I feel you on the anxiety and awkwardness. I truly appreciate you being willing to share your experience because I have been really on the fence about whether to do Stitch North (or any in-person retreat for that matter). It requires a lot of planning for me to travel without my child, and I don't want to go through all that and spend the money to just end up having a difficult time and not being able to connect in the way I'd like to. Honestly, it would probably be way too overstimulating for me, so I will probably stick to virtual retreats for now.
I wish I could go , but I have tinnitus and would not be able to tolerate the crowd noise,
I'm so sorry it was a hard time for you! I just wanted to say that you didn't come across as weird or awkward and it was nice to be near your table. When it comes to the Smalls exchange, for a couple of minutes I thought you got mine because it was in the same bag (the hotel water bottle) and said the same thing on it. I usually go with a simple bag for a smalls exchange, for me it's part of the surprise. Yes, some people go overboard with their small, but the limit was technically 15 dollars or less for the extras. Again, I'm glad I got to meet you in person!
I wish I could give you a hug. I can totally relate to your feelings. You are courageous for even going to Stitch North on your own - I don’t think I could do that. I was there at week 2 as well but was fortunate to be there with my daughter. Thank you so much for sharing - it takes so much courage to put yourself out there. But take some comfort in knowing you are not alone. I wish you had sat at our table and beside me. Keep going forward as you say and focus on your love of cross stitch especially since it gives you solace in this crazy world. I am actually way out of my comfort zone by writing this - but do relate and had to reach out. You are not alone in this struggle. Hugs! 🤗
