Looks like a good time!
I need this mix for my car!

Yo I was expecting Finesse to be rhyming, caught me off guard behind the wheels. Shout out to Caz!! Keep it coming D for us that can’t make it.
LF barely raps these days. He's always on the wheels. Thanks for stopping thru.

Look at youngin' LL 😎😎🤩🤩
yo .. mane I woulda went dumb runnin into Cormega like dat! damn son ... when u started talking bout it all I could think was I have recordings from the HalfTime Show with DJ Riz x DJ Eclipse and they throw the One Love joint at least once on one of the dates I've got! great vid and big ups lookin out .. I had no idea and immediately got me a used copy on the way right now so I don't even have mine yet! I collected all thru the 90's ... a lot in the party scene with hip hop, rare groove, house and later was all up on early jungle/ d'n'b so a little different but I am ALL ABOUT THE ROOTS! thanks bra
Damn man, when you mentioned the Half Time show, I was like, "Ok, this dude knows his stuff." I have a lot of those shows on cassette too. You're going to love that book. Thanks for stopping by.
i picked up Vicious Circle when it came out. it was cool, especially the Lee Beremejo art but it was pricey and i felt like i was going to end up seeing these in the bargain bins later. i've considered picking up American Ronin a few times but never pulled the trigger. issues 1, 3 & 4 are in mycomicshop dollar bin this week, i almost ordered but it didn't quite make the cut.
I gotta check out mycomicshop. I've heard some good things about it.
Does this book cover the digital mixtape era?
No, thank goodness.
@@allthingsdarrelld you buggin old head 🤣
@@nymelly7876 Digital mixtape era??? What era?
peace
Outstanding! I knew you would murder this topic. Fantastic selections and stories. I love the extended versions that artist do in their live shows. Now I need to seek out that Badu album. Beasties kicking things off with Rush’s Tom Sawyer would be amazing to see live. Nice picks with New Edition and Rick James. Prince! Of course. What a way to end the video. Letting the music (and the master) speak for itself. Just listen to that crowd! Sick Thanks for hopping on the thread, really enjoyed your take on it. Cherrs
This was fun and a topic you don't often see. Thanks for the invite.

My boy is jamming
Isn’t Ron g the slowed dude that did fk slow songs chopped lol
No, you're referring to Dj Screw.
@allthingsdarrelld oh ya hahaha
Whoo kid Kayslay FmF It’ll take me some like comments and stuff to jog my memory, but I downloaded so much New York rap I was way more in New York rap than down south and I’m from down south
I subbed
Thx!
That looks like the book called. Where did you get those? (About shoes) It’s from that white DJ that made those mob deep songs (?). I’m kinda asking my own brain since I’m not a drill channel lol
I have that book. It was from Bobbito. He never worked with Mobb Deep though.
@allthingsdarrelld Yaa just the era you’re right! Man what a blast from the past! Haha
I think I’d start people off with DJ Kay Slay those summer mixtapes I forget what they’re called Anything from Yonkers DMX Roughriders early early Gotta throw them Dipset G unit radio 1-24 😅. Damn lol
Daaaaamn, Darrell - you did that 2 Live vinyl dirty but I get why. That's still one of my favorite records from that era, people sleep on Treach DJ Mr Mixx. New Edition did get a big come up by adding Johnny Gill, I agree. Great stuff Darell, thanks for sharing with all of us.
Thanks for stopping thru! Your turn.
Dope. De La sample
Salute!
My Brother!! First off, I’m honored by the shoutout, truly. Glad we were able to connect on these RUclips streets. Now, onto the tag. I had saw this tag when it started and thought about doing it but changed my mind. You got me thinking I should just go ahead and knock it out. All in all, you showed some great records as usual. Not many know about that “Gutterfly” record, I have it on CD, bought it back in the day on the strength of the title and cover and it turned out to be good. Some of stuff you showed was new to me,the Indian record with The Truth sample is dope. The one you got for a buck, I’ll have to look into. “The Show” is forever a classic, soundtrack and doc. N.E. Heartbreak, classic. When I saw your video pop up, I was like, an hour?! Come on D!😂 but it worked out perfectly for this ride I had to make. Good stuff Brother, keep it up ✌🏽
Thanks man. I hope you do this summer tag video. I looked at it as an example to show some different types of records.
@@allthingsdarrelldMeant to mention, the first song I ever wrote and performed was to Black Sheep’s “Without a Doubt” instrumental from the second album. 🔥
@@junesmusiccorner Man, I love that song. I have the 12" single of it.
The one I said you can suggest is cruel universe it has a dinosaur on the cover so I was already interested
Dope video Darrell D Musical Memories was the first shop I visited in Milwaukee in the late 90’s and still go there today that Cranberries Zombie is killler grab . I still need to get “The Show Soundtrack “ straight 🔥 classic . That DJ Quik sample you found was cool as hell I remember that joint . You ended with at Bill Doggett man that was a steal and a half man so many hip hop sample from that album. Loved it Darrell killer Tag.
Thanks man! Your turn!
Thanks for the shout out Darrell! 😂 Sorry to steal the first selection with DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, but good call with Kool and the Gang. If you like live albums, you should to check out the video I just finished (posting tomorrow). I put out a little thread/challenge for people to show live albums. I bet you could make a killer response video! I have the second black sheep album on CD - it’s a good album! What a treat to see Adel in the early days of her career. The Show is another one I have on CD - classic! First Liberace and now Jyoti! Digging deep man - I like it. Just subbed up June’s Music Channel - thanks. I love all the stories, long winded - it’s all good - keep em coming.
I can't wait to see your "live" video. I'm definitely making a response vid. I actually made a "live concert" video a while back. Maybe I can pull out some different stuff. Good idea!
Awesome video and collection you got are great pickups. The Show Soundtrack is a gem forever
Thank you sir!

True definition of a bootleg, when they don’t get anything right 😂 still a rarity I guess though. If you remembered that you had it already it would you still have bought it?
For the right price, I would buy 10 copies of the same bootleg Prince albums.
i love the krushin'/wipeout picture disc. i've never seen anything like it.
great video. i saw him at first avenue in 2007. i was starstruck myself. i'm glad you met the guy.
1988 was a real peak year and i worked somewhere where prince bootlegs were sold. the song sequence on the back of vol. 2 would have had me forking over money back then too although maybe not twice.
I hear you, Lol. Normally I would be upset if I mistakenly bought more than one item, but never with Prince boots!
@@allthingsdarrelld i think that syracuse prince show (3/30/85) is available on 2 cd's with a blu-ray of the show for 53 bucks on amazon. you probably already know that but i thought i'd tell you just in case. i saw him only once on 7/7/07. he was jumping off of things he shouldn't have but it was a great show.
@@marcyfan-tz4wj I didn't know that. One of the fun things about finding bootleg vinyl is finding it for a good price. I only saw him once and that was for the Musicology tour in 2004.
@@allthingsdarrelld that prince set is calling out your name. the deluxe "1999" one has a 1982 show from houston that's a little hard to see but but very cool. i enjoyed gumbo's record today thanks to you.

I was there man!!! And let me tell you.. anyone that watches this will have an appreciation for it but!.. There is nothing like being there and feeling the energy of the people and the music in the park.. Watching this takes me back there and Dammit that’s fine with me.. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
fascinating to see this. part of me believes you can project yourself back to the bronx anytime you feel it or whenever "dr. buzzard's original savannah band" and a turntable get together. i'm the darryl who can't do that but this is wonderful to watch and hear. thanks.
Peace man... great post and book link. The 90s was my era for hip-hop coming up, and mixtapes are an essential but often forgotten component of the genre. Today, they're a lost art. All of the tapes in my library are on CD (digitally sourced from the cassettes) but still have the gritty sound and capture the essence. Mixtape style DJs were my vibe so I have a lot of Clue, Tony Touch and Do Wop. I'm also a big fan of DJ Drama who kept it alive in modern times. Respect and stay solid.
No doubt man. I remember back in the 90's when Dj Drama was huge down in Atlanta. In fact, i'm going to do a video of all the tapes I bought in Georgia soon. Thanks for stopping by.
Can someone archive all the hip hop mixtapes to digital?
Several collectors have digitized their tapes but I doubt there's someone out there will every mixtape made.
Bro LA had mixtapes poping in 86 878889 late mid 80 dg in la sold tapes at swaptmeet dr dra came iut mix circuit in California before the nyc mixtape boommof 90 we had jumping in 80
Sounds incredible. While I don't own any Dre tapes, I do have a ton from the "RAPP" series which were also big at the flea markets. I would love to hear/see more about those 80's tapes.
