Maintaining Creative Energy in the Age of Algorithms
You can learn more about this art at kickstarter.com/projects/ade3/demon-0
The scariest part about being an artist is the fear that when you unveil your new creation, everyone will hate it. We get caught up imagining the terrible “bad review” outcome and we don’t realize there is a more likely and perhaps worse one. What if you create your art and nobody cares?
The “everybody will hate it” fear is unlikely but even so, it would have its advantages. The louder a hater yells, the further they spread your message. It’s like free marketing if you can get over the sting. Hatred means your art is affecting people. Hate is so much better than the blank stares most gallery walls evoke. No, the “eve...

This shows the artistic process behind making black and white print collages out of thermal paper, alcohol, heat, and other odd techniques. The images emerge from the paper, it's almost like the faces are hidden beneath the paper waiting for me to carve them out. It reminds me of the Leonardo da Vinci quote where he said, "The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I star...

I have two tapes that have Judy Garland singing "Over the Rainbow." One is from the soundtrack, the other is a solo version. Being me, I wondered how they would sound played simultaneously. So I did this. This is best appreciated with headphones because I put one version in your right ear and the other in the left. The two versions go in and out of sync in a beautiful way. The solo version has ...

This is all done with practical effects, no post processing or anything. Ok, maybe "practical" is the wrong word, like any magic trick it requires more work than any normal person would consider reasonable. Eventually, I will make an explainer video, but I'm still having fun keeping it a secret.

A couple experiments happening here. First, I have the video synthesis happening on a flat screen that I place the tape players on top of. Above this is my camera. The camera output goes through my glitch organ and into the tvs in the background, where it is recorded again causing a feedback loop. Second is the audio experiment. A Walkman tape recorder like this has mono output. It makes up for...

Today I am going to show you how to add a tripod mount to almost anything. I have a Logi 720p USB webcam that doesn’t have a hole or any way to securely connect it to a tripod. Here’s the method I used to add a tripod mountable hole to it. In theory, this method should work for any similar situation where you are trying to add a mountable 1/4 inch hole to something. After taking the base of my ...

All my experimental techniques are coming together here: cassette tape manipulation, hologram camera (light bridge illusion), video synthesis (Glitch Organ), and my recurring looping animation. Here's me playing my Glitch Organ in real-time, looking into a monitor/camera while the video synthesis is displayed on a TV behind me. My Glitch Organ (aka a Raspberry Pi running Waaave Pool) controls the video delay and feedback. The audio is from an earlier project that started out as a cover of "Let it be" before I added the vintage audio clips. Aside from some edits to keep it short, this ...

Here's a new holographic illusion. This is all done "in camera," no post-processing special effects. I edited clips from Metropolis to get the android and then used my "hologram camera" to make this. I will get around to posting how the camera works in a future video. Audio is from an earlier video where I mangled an old unpopular Elton John song.

I recently had the need for mirrors in a prototype I was building. The mirror was to go inside the hologram camera I've been posting videos from recently. To state the obvious, working with mirrors is dangerous. Cutting glass is something you should try to avoid if you don't have to. So this is a quick studio tip for anyone who needs to make prototypes that involves mirrors. It's safe, easy, an...

This is a lost episode of Made by Ade. I guess I posted it on Instagram but never on RUclips. Better late than never. This is the process of re-printing onto old receipts. On each receipt is a single frame of a looping animation. After they are all printed out, they are scanned into the computer and re-stiched into an animation. I probably should have mentioned the source of this dancer is from...

I don’t know what to comment here, but I appreciate this video, and to me your voice is as nice to listen to as your art making process is to watch. The sound of a voice is very important to me and influences whether I will enjoy other aspects of someone’s content so from me that’s perhaps the highest compliment I can give on a personal level. With that said, your art and the way you’re making it in this video absolutely fascinates me. I’m not an artist by trade but I am a creative person in my own right, and I don’t create to show others, I never post it on social media. I like writing out lyrics of songs on fancy paper with colored ink, adding stickers and other details. Because I like hand writing but I don’t always know what to say. This video has inspired me so perhaps I’ll write out the transcript of this video like that. I don’t mean to talk about myself so much, but I get the impression that this would mean something for you to hear. And besides, comments are good for the algorithm, as well as a subscribe and like. I wish you the best.

    • @adehanft
      @adehanft Месяц назад

Thanks! It's a mix of things but I will probably make a tutorial in the future. The tape player is modified with speed control and a pt2399 chip. The "hologram" is a technique that requires a tutorial of it's own. And the synthesis part is coming from a Raspberry pi running something called Waaave Pool. Maybe those clues are enough to get going in case I don't get to a tutorial in a while. Thanks for your comment and kind words!

I haven’t found colored thermal paper but that could be cool. I’ve done leaves and feathers and got good results. Check out my demo with flowers if you haven’t seen it. The paper turns orange if left on the sun for many hours. Didn’t work as well as a cyanotype but I might not have perfected the process. Thanks, Anny!

I read that Robert Florey would have been editing Skyscraper around the same time he was directing the Marx Brothers in The Coconuts!

One thing that I always liked about Koyaanisqatsi is how it manages to be so impactful despite being so gradual in its build up. One good example is how we see the impact of mankind in nature well before we see any actual humans (the first people show up about 25 minutes in, and even then, they're shown in front of a massive structure, possibly a refinery? been a while since i've rewatched it.) This movie (or at least, this edit of it) accomplishes the same thing, giving the same impactful, creeping feeling of man slowly taking over nature, while having the exact opposite sense of pacing. What would be an eight-minute long shot of a plane taxiing on a runway is instead a smash cut to the arrival of a train (ha!) Great stuff!

I love old footage of how life really was in decades past. In my opinion there are not enough old documentries that depict how life functioned in the early to mid 20th century. The only Hollywood version would be The Naked City from 1948 ,a crime drama shot on the streets of New York city.
