Why is DCC considered the "good" litRPG? Simple, because most authors are in such a rush to publish the new book as fast as possible that it reads like a rough draft. They do not take the time to do basic edits of the story. There is a fairly large fanbase that simply doesn't care if the writing is poor, sentences are jumbled and don't make sense, or stats/events are consistently contradicted later in the story, and so those authors don't see the point in taking the time to make the books as good as they can prior to releasing them. There's more money in releasing the rough draft as the final version. DCC doesn't do that. I saw the author talk on a panel recently and he stressed how important it is to take the time to edit, and how it is ok to wait to release the story until it is in it's best form. This is why he's the GOAT of the genre.
I don't know if i can handle the train in live action.
Firefly is awesome! It’s okay Daniel you’re right about half the time and this is one of the other times. Having read your books I think you should consider rewatching it and taking notes on subtle characterizations!
I think Matt said somewhere that he is a pantser with a spreadsheet to keep track of everything he's introduced
What a legend,John Gwynne !!!! Truth and courage !!!
Y’all should rlly try and market the podcast more, give it a name, format, etc, bc you talk about alot of rlly interesting and niche stuff!
I finished book 2 about 3 days after finishing book 1. I am in love and need all avenues of media for this series. I wish this man nothing but the best.
I have listened to the entire series 3 times now. I am dying waiting for the newest book! I am no😢a gamer, but I enjoy a lot of this genre. But Carl is my favorite. It's such a smart series.
DCC isn't punk like Sum 41. It's Punk, like Dead Kennedys
DCC animated in a Vox Machina-like style would be the best thing ever
PLEASE
That background music is a bit annoying. All else is great.
I started with HWFWM (1st litrpg), and thought it was amazing, albeit a bit wordy here and there. I caught up to last audiobook available and was recommended DCC. Its probably my favorite series ever. The way Diniman writes a fight scene is superb. I've audiobooked and read a lot of star wars novels, and other actiony type novels, but when the fights come, everything gets all blurry and frankly often uninteresting. But DCC, it's clear what's going on, it's bombastic in the best way possible and about the only thing that has been confusing was the twisted train book. I love it, and cannot wait for more!!! Just finished Bedlam a few minutes ago.
I've relistened to them all, at least 7 times. Christmas really comes Feb 11th.
Read books 1-6 last summer, then waited over a year for book 7. Read it shortly after release. Now I'm waiting for book 8. It can't get here fast enough. Each book raises the stakes higher and this last book did not disappoint. I can't wait, I have to know what happens next! Such good books, regardless of genre.
These two are gonna lose it when they find out Matt isn’t a plotter at all. 100% pantser.
I DID lose it! He's SO good at it I couldn't tell!
He's a pantser.
I've been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl since the book first book was released. Ever since I finished Book 2 I knew that this series would transcend the rest of the genre. While He Who Fights with Monsters, maybe my personal favorite, nothing comes close to the quality of writing and characterization of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Ps. Calling princess donut, princess for most of this discussion was beyond mind breaking. She is either Donut, or princess donut, never just princess
20:00 Yup the AI always keeps Carl on his back foot
No it's not it's fun but sometimes I want to read something deeper and more meaningful. If I want to play a game I'll play a game not read one.
I watched this on RUclips on my firestick and I didn't see the name of who he was talking to but I liked what he was saying... came over to RUclips on my laptop to see it's Bryce! I really enjoy the Warformed: Stormweaver series, Bryce. You write really well as well! I was surprised that Daniel didn't know Matt was a pantser. He's talked about it enough, and I thought you were hanging out with him a few days ago in Salt Lake City LOL
Hey thanks man! Glad you like it! As for Matt being a pantser, this was recorded WEEKS before we were in Utah and Daniel had that on-stage chat with Matt. Also Matt is SO good at pantsing you can't tell. With me, you can tell. With Matt, you really can't. At least not as far as Book 5, which I'm well into now!
@BryceOConnorAuthor oh wow! I feel honored by your reply! Your writing is fantastic so quit knocking yourself down! If you ever want a beta reader, just let me know! I've been beta reading for Joaquin Baldwin's books and he says I give some of the best feedback because I'll be honest and not blow smoke up your arse :) BTW, You also chose a great narrator with Luke Daniels!
Dang, I just wasted my audible token on Winds and Truth!
This is the only audio book I have ever been able to really get into. I listened to them all , then tried listening to others and just ended up going back listen to DCC series again, while enjoying them more the second play through. They are just so good! (So excited about the next book to be released this on audio)
Jeff Hayes is a MASTER behind the mic. Like not just voices, but his choice of effects and everything. It's amazing!
I just started this today and it is so much fun.
Dude is in the litrpg space and on book 2 that is kinda weird.
"WITH" ffs ! The title is "He who fights WITH Monsters" Lol 😂 every damn time man 😅
Dungeon Crawler Carl would be amazing if Edgar Wright tried his hand at it. His editing style and energetic directing would pair perfectly.
Dungeon Crawler Carl is our generation's Lord of the Rings!
As someone who just got back from dragonsteel nexus and was lucky enough to catch a few panels and chat with Dinniman, I will confirm that dude is a quality human. Unhinged a bit and after 2 minutes of conversation you know for certain, like ya.. this is definitely the dude who writes DCC. Daniel Greene also gave me the impression of being such a nice guy, I flagged him down while he was shopping and he had no reason to be so nice about me interrupting his day and sign my War of the Worlds, but he graciously did anyway. I am so hesitant/reluctant to approach authors and inconvenience people, but both of them were just great experiences.
I was introduced to DCC this past March by a friend of mine while we were on our way to a dog show lol. (Felt called out in the first few chapters 😂😂) I generally don't like audio books, but the narration was so top tier that I immediately downloaded audible to purchase the books and give them a listen. I'm waiting for the next one so eagerly.
Jeff Hayes is genuinely one of those next-level narrators!
Been a fan of Daniel's for years. But when he said I was wrong for liking Graphic Audio, it bugged me a lot. I'm sure he's not REALLY being serious, but when he doubled down, I sure felt alienated by a creator I've really enjoyed since back when he was doing Wheel of Time explanations.
he's... literally kidding. it's very clear that's a joke...? i think you are reading very far into something that is clearly meant as a lighthearted jab.
I was listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl book 1 on an airplane, and a scene with the AI's "preferences" was happening, and I was laughing as I was trying to make sure no one around me could hear it😂
Nope... you definitely want people around you to hear it LOL They'll stop and ask you about it and you can spread the Good Word!
This Bryce dude needs a new photo to represent him. Whenever I see that photo of him taking off his sunglasses, I feel like it should be on a gas station window, sun faded, next to the "cool kid" sunglasses that are all dusty, and have been sitting there since 2003
Working on it as we speak! Thinking of getting a new face tattoo first though! xD
Loved the talk! I kind of don't like how every book discussion seems to emd up talking about adaptation. I don't thinl things need an adaptation to be valid. I don't really care if I book I love is adapted. The book is the book
I checked out the first DCC book and read it through. Gave it 3 out of 5 stars. It was decent, but not something I have an urge of continuing on with.
I love how they talk about how Carl puts a bomb in an inventory to catch out another player than they right into how Bryce can't get into anything DARK right now..... Eeeeee.... How to tell where he had not gotten to yet... <3
Not really love... more want to send Chocolate and a warm blanket
Yeeeeah... I got there pretty soon after 😭
As a graphic audio enjoyer, I will not put up with this slander, and will be unsubscribing.
🤣🤣
Matt is apparently also a pantser which makes me really interested in his method. It FEELS very planned, but it isn't. I am not sure how he does it. If you have him for another interview I would love to hear the method he uses to keep the consistency. ruclips.net/video/31WBZe2IZlo/видео.htmlsi=oe5Ae8DFovIYZySK&t=2185
I think he has a clear vision of the universe he's working in, so it lets him improvise within it. His trick is that he doesn't get caught up copy pasting huge chunks of his worldbuilding into the story, because he knows to give us just enough to understand the scene we're in. I love how he will literally be in mid exposition and then have Carl be like "I don't care" and then blow something up.
There are actually good litrpg books with female mcs
Heard enough in the first 5 minutes ive just ordered the book
Also listen to the audiobook! You will not be disappointed. Jeff Hayes’s voice narration brings the experience to another level. Highly highly recommend! Enjoy crawler!
@@richardmichaelson agreed, it's a solid book that is even better with Jeff Hayes narrating.
Haha we'll take that as a compliment!
The audiobooks are absolutely amazing
I am discovering that I am actually obsessed with litRPG! I never expected to to get into it but after dabbling in a few litrpg books, I have officially been pulled in. Also it helps with my gaming addiction. I am finding myself choosing to read more often on my free time rather than picking up the controller.
omg i was waiting for this to drop on the main channel for so long. i didn't realize this was on the second channel LOL, my b my b. can't wait to watch this!
MD ahs said that he is a pantser 100%
That’s not punk
I mean, it kind of is though. A cooperation has taken over the world
Daniel made me addict to DCC I need my fix
Finished the series so far. Super fun!
I finished Book 1 last week and I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be continuing the series after I finish Wind and Truth and the first volume of Berserk. I'm gonna need the comic relief after that.
This is a neat interview/discussion setup :)
Yeah I might have to convince him to let us do more like this!
Us LitRPG authors are watching to see if the whole genre is having a moment in the mainstream, or if this is just Dinniman's moment. Either way, it's great to see good writing being recognized.
Tide raising ships. I believe lit rpg is about to explode!
Good writing and fun story will make any genre have a moment in the spotlight.
Hearing that Princess Donut is the Jesse Pinkman of the story made me want a crossover of BB and DCC
I was a little late seeing this, but in my defence, all the links on your main channel point to last year's discussion channel.
