RE4 HD was the very first game that I bought digitally (back in 2012, I think). Now I can't remember when was the last time when I bought a physical copy of a game.
My FAVORITE version of RE4 (not including remake) is VR on quest, I do hate that it does have some of the content cut
Why is this the hardest MK 1 game in existence, harder than the original arcade game?? Hands down the best looking and sounding home console port made. 🍻
@tonyrosario1940 it is very difficult lol, but it's honestly a great port overall
I don’t have this game on ps3 but I do have 0 and remake and they are very very interesting. For one both come with the special dlc costumes that the remasters got but in my opinion the best things about these ports is that you can actually change the spoken language from English to Japanese Edit: I have the Japanese versions of these games though: biohazard and biohazard 0
@GarzaTheFather I've always wanted to check out those on ps3 or 360, I have the originals on gamecube, but by the time the hd remasters came out I already had an Xbox one, then later got them on pc. I really like 0 its still one of favorites, and of course the remake of the first game is excellent
Only the Xbox and the Wii U didn’t get their RE4 lol.
@@CuCuz305 I would have loved a Wii U port just for the absurdity of it lol
@@maripostal me too. Even more absurd if they released it now. I’d instant-buy it.
@CuCuz305 you're speaking my language, I'd instantly buy that lmao
The way the character models and environments are shaded in MGSV GZ and TPP straight up looks realistic. The devs really nailed the realism aesthetic in this game. The models are of low poly and low fidelity compared to many later ps4 gen games and yet it looks more realistic than those games. Also them optimizing this game for ps3 and 360 was the right decision. This ensured the ps4 and xbox one versions could run at 60 fps. Wish more games aimed for 60 fps on ps4 like this. The rain definitely drains performance significantly. My GPU died and now I use my CPU's integrated graphics to play games. I get around 50-60 fps on most places on tpp, but as soon as rain starts, the game drops to around 40 fps.
I like the wii u bc the switch games stay expensive. Wii u games are so cheap.
the port was to the switch I believe. I heard they are both supposed to play the exact same for either system, and despite a few differences in where slowdowns occur, they mostly do. They actually axed the gamepad support they had planned for the wii u game so the 2 versions would be the same, the switch is never dual screen, so they had to axe that feature on the wii u. It's a shame, bc it would have been cool to see what they did w that 2nd screen. Touchscreen inventory woulda been pretty nice too, just sayin. BOTW is still pretty good as well. I have my critiques, but it's a very solid title. It's still a fun one to play today.
Yes that's correct, it was just better wording for the title I think, easier to convey. Yeah it would have been cool to have touch screen control like I'm pretty sure twilight princess hd had. I mostly just played with the pro controller so I didn't really remember, but kore options are always a good thing
My first re4 playthrough was the Xbox 360 version i played it multiple timesit was amazing
First of all, I just want to say that I genuinely enjoyed the video. It did not feel formulated or like a TV broadcast. The way you were talking about RE4 felt like having a conversation with a friend while drinking coffee, or something like that. As for the Ps360 port, in a way, this is more faithful to the Gamecube version than Ultimate hd edition on pc, ps4, xbox one and switch. They made a mediocre attempt at making higher res textures for the ultimate hd ports, most of the textures were just upscaled and other textures looked off. Leon's shirt itself looked off. In the original gamecube version, his shirt color is grey and his weapon strap is brown. But in UHD version his shirt is black and the strap is lighter color. The whole color grading on those ports are off too, not that it's gamebreaking. This makes the ps360 ports feel more authentic. However, there were missing effects in these HD ports, which were later missing on the UHD ports too. The notable one includes Depth of Field effect on the cutscenes. This made the cutscenes look flat. There's also a reason why the UHD ports look too smoothed out. It's not just the higher resolution, but the way textures are filtered. Anisotropic filtering on those UHD ports makes the distant textures blend smoothly. But on Ps360 versions whatever filter they used made the distant textures shimmery but also gritty at the same time. I can't comment on the ps3 port. But I've been playing the xbox 360 port and from the looks of it, it doesn't use any anti aliasing, which is why there's lots of shimmer of the margins of every object. As for the 30 FPS preference, I guess it adds in to the gritty feeling over the previously mentioned factors. So I can see why people might prefer 30 fps. The UHD pc port can be locked to 30 FPS if you want. The original PC port is really something. You should try it, especially the unpatched retail release. It was a port of the already inferior ps2 port but had missing graphical effects on top of that. It also did not have any lighting at all, so the whole game was flat shaded. The audacity of releasing such an abomination. Thank God Capcom did us justice by re-releasing it on pc with UHD version which seems to be based on the xbox 360 version with added improvements. Initially the UHD port also had it's fair share of issues. For one, mouse support was still trash. Even if you moved the mouse fast, the game would move the camera slowly as if you are trying to emulate analog sticks with a mouse. This was fixed with patches later on. By the way, you should really try the RE4 HD Project mod on pc. The people involved behind this project straight up found the original source of the textures and made high res textures that completely matched the original gamecube version unlike the UHD port textures. Character and environment models have been improved with higher poly ones and lighting has been improved to be more accurate to the light source in the map. The color grading has been fixed too and missing effects like depth of field are restored. Leon's shirt has the original color too. This has to be the most faithful remaster that's better than most other official remasters. The improvements make the game look consistent even at higher resolutions like 4k although you can still play the game at 720p and still see the improvements. This is already getting too big, I will end the comment here.
Hey, thank you so much for such a long comment. I am super bad at finding the right words to respond with, but I just wanted to make sure you know I read all that and really appreciate the interest.
My first experience with RE4 was on the Wii; I got so fed up with the pointer controls that I learned to "freeze" my cursor in the middle of the screen by blocking/flipping the sensor bar. Absolutely ZERO sway as well, I remember sniping the gondola riders with a handcannon because of it lmfao
@keithparker8052 lol that's honestly hilarious
I totally get what you mean about the 30fps . I really like Dark Souls Prepare to die edition on PC and its stuck at 30fps at 720p internal resolution. It looks really raw and crunchy and dingy like this .
It is really a shame that the Revival Selection and Chronicle Selection were only released physical in Japan. They're totally worth buying a physical copy of. Good thing the PS3 is region free.
Great video man, I enjoy how unscripted it was because you talked about a lot of interesting things even though it wasn't 100 percent about the topic at hand. Fun fact when you said the Sega Saturn used triangles and the PS1 used squares its actually the other way around! Glad you mentioned that though because I think its a neat tidbit of how different the main cast looks on the Saturn compared to the PS1 because of the hardware, I don't see a lot of people talk about why they look different.
@lessthanbonnie5813 thanks! I really appreciate the correction between the squares and triangles, I feel like I often absorb information then repeat it slightly wrong later lol. I do miss when consoles were so different and there were actual major differences in the hardware itself, let alone just ports between multiple systems. I still had the saturn very near and dear to me, loved the saturn and dreamcast growing up
re4 ports are weird to me, because the Xbox 360 version is the only hd console version with the best sound quality for some reason lol
The 360 could split the 512 ram it had on either program or video ram, so since maybe the game should need only 200 mb to run, the 360 version could use the other 312 ram on board to help performance of the visual aspect of the game, but the ps3 version could only have it's 256 video ram to draw the frame.
60 fps breaks the games AI and physics and the game feels off, definitely.
There a fix in the PC version
I bought it 2 hours before the marketplace shutdown on 360😂 i had plenty of errors trying buying it and was so desperate to get it and i wasn't dissapointed when i play it
@deletriz that is seriously lucky timing lol
i had the 360 port but i bought it digital on the store its been 8 years since i seen that xbox
i still play it on my Ps3 to this day. 🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The ps2 version is the most common version with all the extra content. And before anybody says anything I know it was downgraded but the ps2 is still beloved by nearly everybody
The thing with those ports and the latest one is that if you take that marvelous fanmade ultimate hd mod out of the equation, there are still a bunch of visual effects that are still exclusive to the Gamecube/Wii originals.
That 360 version looks nice. Did they sharpen up the shading?
@samjiman If I had to guess the entire lighting engine has changed, but the problem is there's like no info about it online. I remember when I made this video I was really trying to look into it more but I never found much.
First one is the best. I played some of the 2nd but didn't like it so much.
@samjiman 1st one is really good. I think overall I like travis strikes again the most
I remember borrowing the GC version from someone during grade school but he wanted it back before I could finish it. Parent's weren't fond of me playing M-rated games as kid so being able to buy the 360 version as a download was a god-send. It was the first time I actually completed the game.
@MailmanTheShopKeep I love reading stories like this lol at least you were finally able to beat it when the port came out
@@maripostal Yeah man, love stories like it too. I am also fascinated by weird ports on underpowered hardware. Maybe in 10 years time, we will find the PS4 version of RE4 remake interesting.
@MailmanTheShopKeep yeah that's a great point, it's already decently interesting, but yeah in a decade we might see things a bit differently. However I also think interesting ports are going to be less frequent with how good hardware is nowadays, and how good it'll be in the future. I feel like we're starting to plateau a bit. I do think the most interesting tech now is portable computers
I absolutely adore weird ports, and fun fact, RE4 was the game that really turned me into a port collector. And yes, as someone who owns both the 360 and PS3 versions, the 360 version *does* look subtley better in a hard to describe way. My favorite port is a toss-up, but probably Wii not for the motion control, but for the option of playing with a GameCube controller or the excellent Wii Classic Controller plus having all the PS2 extras. Fave gun is the Broken Butterfly. The name, the stopping power and the reload animation are all just so badass
@HybridAngelZero yeah I think it was one of the first for me as well as far as collecting ports are concerned. Yeah favorite port is super stuff, I think I'd probably say the wii as well for the reasons you mentioned. The gamecube controller still feels so perfect for it. And cool cool, re 4 has got some great weapons
this wasnt a weird port though
You ever make a review on this game? 👀
@2Trill304 no I never did, I never really wanted to straight up review games, always thought there were plenty of already great youtube people doing that, plus my brain is a very unorganized one lol. However since you asked, I really really enjoyed it, I think I still like the 2 remake the most out of any of the remakes, maybe cuz it's so different, but the 4 remake was super solid. I feel like it did a great job of being different and not trying to replace the original, whether or not that was intentional I obviously don't know. As always too the re engine games look incredible no matter what hardware you're playing on really. I like how Luis pals around with you more, he was always my favorite, in either version I'd say.
@@maripostal yeah I’m a re4 fan boy lol. I played the og and beat it at least 200 times speed running was I was younger. I’ve owned re4 on every hardware possible🥹 the remake is great don’t get me wrong, but the original is untouchable. Remake was a lot of fan service, but the og game is just to damn good to be dethroned.
@2Trill304 I get where you're coming from, it's like original re 4 is and will always be this like unreachable pinnacle lol but I still love both. They really are just kinda different games
@@maripostal separate ways was done better in the remake imo, and mercinaries
@2Trill304 I still haven't gotten around to either separate ways or the mercenaries in the remake lol, I got it the day it launched, played through it, and have been meaning to get back to at somepoint. I definitely need to get back so I can play as Luis
Gamecube, PS2, PC Ubisoft (crapiest port),Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, PC Steam, Xbox One, Switch, PS4, Xbox One X, PS5, Mobile I played ALL of them hundreds of hours still doing it today ❤
@BastiOn_1337 you got me beat, I'm super close though lol
I still gotta beat this on the PS3. And PS4... and PS4 Remake... and PS5... and Steam... and Steam remake... gaaah.

RUclips recommended me this video. I enjoyed the review. Thank you!
The game was super mediocre, I think it's the most mid game I've ever played probably even more so than Breath of the Wild because of how empty and underwhealming the whole game felt
Definitely not forgotten. I still play the 360 CV to this day.
Same here, brother. Stuck on a hard save where my health is on danger and I have no herbs left. Wish me luck!

@@Archangel96 I totally get, I played an insane amount of ground zeroes on the 360. That was still one of the most exciting time periods for me as a huge metal gear fan
I see what you mean with liking the 30fps in this game. I’m not sure but the game FPS might be tied to the engine and in those cases 30fps is completely acceptable since the game was made with that fps target in mind
@Darkwing14_ it's definitely tied to physics in a sense, I've seen videos of running it at lower than 30 and higher than 60, I'm pretty it accounted for a situation in which you wouldn't instantly die from chainsaw. Wish I could remember the video I watched about that. But yeah point being, gamecube version was 30fps so that was indeed the original target
This happens a lot with older games from that era. They designed the game around a particular framerate and there wasn't an expectation of future proofing for ports and remasters.
@@JCSA79V yeah, precisely. One of the examples I always think of is Final Fantasy X, I still don't think to this day there's any functional way to play it above 30fps
Very good vid, AFAIK the physical versions are only in Japanese, correct? Would like to play it, but don’t want to buy digital on such old HW.
@Misfu88 as far as my understanding is, that is correct. I'd still like to get my hands on that physical 360 version, one day lol
Bought it on 360 years ago. Forgot about it until I looked at my download history right before the 360 marketplace closed. Still a gem!
@patrickmurphy9470 awesome, I still love that generation of consoles.
There was a re4 port for a brazilian console
@cadence764 that is correct, that would be the zeebo. "Stop Skeletons From Fighting" has great videos on both the re 4 port and the console itself
@@maripostal the game is soo good its even on hidden consoles
My favorite port is the VR port.
@@thedragonofdojima4157 the vr port is really cool, I still haven't finished it due to motion sickness with vr
Out of PC, PC-HD, GC and PS2 only GC version have artistic per object motion blur in cutscenes Also mouse support in PC version is utter crap, its imitating a stick with mouse, and because of that you do not feel mouse as mouse. I wonder why Capcom not changed MT engine version in RE4HD to RE5 or RE6 one which have excellent KBM support "Gameplay is horrible"... tell me about gameplay, I finished it on keyboard only About 30 fps its classic "film versus vs tv series" visual catch Try watch 24 fps movie and then convert it to 30 and to 48/60 fps already on 30fps you will feel "cheapness", on 48/60 it will turn to unbelievability
- With the release of the second PC port (which came after the release of the PS360 versions) Capcom gave players the option to use slightly cleaned up textures - this version served as the basis of the PS4 an XB1 ports, and I would bet that those versions used the cleaned up textures; meaning that the HD PS360 versions probably have grittier textures, which may work better with the game's art style. - The 360 had a very unique gamma curve which (at the same TV brightness setting) makes the 360 slightly darker and slightly green tinted. Perhaps that is the difference you are seeing between 360 and PS3?
Oh, also the 360 has a fairly competent internal scaler which doesn't do a bad job in scaling up the internal 720p content to output to 1080p screens, whereas the PS3 does a terrible job of this - so if you have your consoles set to output at 1080p, then I expect your 360 would look quite a bit better.
@captainthunderbolt7541 ah yeah that makes sense texture wise with the later pc port. Yeah I've noticed the 360 scales better as well, granted I'm still running everything through upscalers, trying to present a moderately middle of the road way of seeing it on a modern display. To me, at least with how I have things set up, the ps3 black levels are definitely crushed a bit, making it darker on at least the set up I'm using. However, regardless, I really appreciate the write up!
@@maripostal If your PS3 has crushed black levels, you might try switching its dynamic range setting between full and limited. Neither is inherently better than the other, but certain displays work better with one or the other.
@captainthunderbolt7541 yes thank you. I have tried already, I think it just looked too washed out in limited so I just decided to deal with the black levels being crushed, I know inhad my reasons I just don't remember why lol. I'll have to re look at it at somepoint
