      @pedalingpast60 Hi John, I guess overcast ☁️ for you in winter means snow. For us on BC southwest coast, in the winter, it means warmer weather with the likelihood of rain. I lived in Ontario about 250 miles west Toronto. I have forgotten how to predict the outcome of the weather patterns in the east. Though I have lived by the Arctic Circle for a couple of years, and that was interesting. A whole different life style.

    Good morning, John. It was great riding with you this morning. It was interesting to hear about your weather patterns and how the winds from south and out of the north affect your area. It was very sunny even though it was windy and brought the temperature down some and made your ride more challenging. The staff at the theater house are friendly and eager to greet you. What a great place to work. I will repeat a quote from one of your staff members " Have a safe ride home tonight."

    Hi John, Stan from Victoria, BC, Canada here again. YES, I have subscribed this time. I am 72, and I have always liked / loved to ride bicycles right from the time in my early childhood when I learned to ride. I didn't always believe in riding to be seen. However, wisdom comes with experience, maturity and age. I am a believer in ride to be seen. Your advice in riding gear is good and appropriate. I like to ride day or night with a reflective vest, one solid white light, one flashing white light up front, and a light on top of my helmet. On the back I like one solid bright red light and one bright flashing tail light. Continue to ride with awareness and personal safety in mind.

    • @pedalingpast60
      @pedalingpast60 8 дней назад

      Hi Stan, It’s great to hear from you, and a big thank you for subscribing. At 72 and still loving to ride, you’re an inspiration. I agree 100% with your “ride to be seen” philosophy. Like you said, wisdom does come with experience, and it’s clear you put safety first. A light on the helmet would be a nice addition to my kit. Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughtful advice. It’s great to connect with someone who shares the same passion for cycling and safety. Stay safe out there in beautiful Victoria, BC-what a gorgeous place to enjoy life on two wheels! Warmly, John

    Hi John from Victoria BC Canada. Your battery is getting older now. Winter ridng is hard on batteries. I always take my battery off my bike and bring indoors to warm up for 2 to 3 hrs before putting on the charger. My garage is to cold to store my bike with the battery on it or to charge my bike battery in it. My bike is similar to yours. It has the same type of battery. My bike is a 2018 model. I am on my second battery, I purchased a larger capacity battery the second time around. I went from 10.5 ah to 20ah battery. I always ride with a fully charged battery in the winter. Also I have bought a neoprene cover to wrap around my battery. It helps to keep the battery more efficient with its out put in the colder weather. The battery does give off some of its own heat as it discharges. The neoprene cover helps the battery retain some of this energy heat plus protect it from the wind chill factor. I hope some of this information is helpful. Good luck with your camera mount.

    • @pedalingpast60
      @pedalingpast60 8 дней назад

      Hi there, Stan, Thanks for the battery tips-you’ve clearly put a lot of thought and care into winterizing your rides. I didn’t realize how much difference a neoprene cover could make, but it makes perfect sense! I’ll definitely look into getting one for my battery; anything that helps it perform better in these cold Nebraska winters is worth a shot. Since experiencing some issues with my own battery, I’ve started bringing it inside, too. It’s definitely made a difference, and your suggestion of letting it warm up for 2-3 hours before charging is something I’ll start doing more consistently. Its amazing to me how long the battery case stays so cold to the touch after bringing it indoors. Especially down in the 3 degree F range. And yes, that camera mount definitely needs some TLC-I’ll get it sorted out when my work schedule lightens up in a week. Day 17 video was embarrassing for me. The clunking mount was relentless as I tried to get away from wearing the the bluetooth mic to save time. Stay safe and warm out there, Stan, and keep the great advice coming! Gratefully, John

    I've not winter cycled in about a decade. I'll be 60 this year. When I did winter cycle my glasses would often fog up when wearing a mask. Also, I knew it was time to take the car when temps got into the single digits. My eyelids would occasionally momentarily freeze shut. Yikes😅

    I know it's only because of your poor mic, but it would be fun to incorporate the voiceover you screen after your rides for input on things while not having to focus on riding or being freezing cold. Maybe in those moments of your ride that there are lulls? it would be more video editing, but I actually enjoyed that it was almost a storytime. "Vlogs" are also very popular here on YT, so you may get that crowd of viewers if you change up the style a little. Just something you might consider playing around with.

    I live in Japan and owning a car is pretty expensive here. Many housewives, older people, and high school kids ride bicycles. They ride them on the street or the sidewalk wherever they feel safer. Pedestrians sometimes complain about cyclists on the sidewalks but the police seem to prefer them there. Until recently, the Japanese had mainly "mama chari-s" which were very cheap Chinese bicycles which began to rust almost immediately. Now one sees more expensive bicycles and electric bicycles. I think for a city to be really bikable, it has to be relatively flat. Maybe electric bikes will change that. I have a bicycle but I live in a valley where you have to bike up hills in every direction. My 66 year old knees aren't too happy when I do that. I find walking hurts them less. My wife, who has no driver's license, insists I drive her everywhere, however.

    • @pedalingpast60

      Omaha's hills have been tamed by the ebike. I love it and my leg that had a ruptured quad just above the knee has been fairly quiet since I started on the ebike. Great, gentle, sustainable therapy. Its been 25 years since I visited Japan. Even then cars and parking were a a big chore! Happy new year and thank you for the great comment.

    You should watch the youtube channel - Not Just Bikes. He has many videos comparing European cycling to cycling in the USA and the problems there.

      I look up Not Just Bikes for sure. Im suddenly very interest in Euro cycling culture. Although Im not holding my breath that Omaha will ever be cycle friendly! Thank you for the tip! I appreciate it! Happy, healthy New Year!

    As Not Just Bikes and other urbanist say: US cities have also not been built for cars, they have been bulldozed to make space for them! If you think Italy is bike friendly, you need to visit the Netherlands. You will be blown away!

      @pedalingpast60 @pedalingpast60 @pedalingpast60 Happy New Year to you too. Funny enough I just returned from my two weeks trip in Italy and I saw myself many cyclists in many cities. Narrow streets, pedestrian streets and calm traffic helps attract more cyclists. If you want good cycling oriented content from behind the handlebar I can recommend two more channels: Bicycle Duch and Active Towns. The latter one especially has many videos from around the world.

      I use my phone with the rt515 rear radar to see all information about approving vehicles.

    Not sure why I inserted the word "mopeds" for what should have been "Vespa" or motorcycle. I did not see even 1 actual moped. 😂

      Thank you! Missing the food and ancient beauty, but It's so good to be home. I'm having a bit of trouble adapting back to the time difference. Also, just understanding Thanksgiving was late this year, and here comes Christmas! Yikes. Need to rally. Andiamo!!

    Nice intro to show it works! and I love the name of your channel. Very creative. I'm not 60, but hopefully will still be riding then. Thanks for your work here. That upside down mounting is actually a good idea. I understand your logic. "Cool guys call the saddle" haha.
