This is my channel dedicated more or less to my model building hobby and related topics. I started modeling as a kid, like most guys, but drifted away in my teens. Came back to it as an adult in the early '90's and started by building several aircraft related to Desert Storm. Then in the late 90's I found Finescale Modeler magazine; learned how to properly build a model and about the same time purpose-built a room in my basement for my hobby. Been puttering away down here ever since. Hope you find my channel interesting.

Reconnaissance GB: SR-71 - Finish & Reveal
Final for my Reconnaissance Group Build entry, the 1/48 Testors SR-71 Blackbird. I complete the build, fill seams, level out the landing gear, and fight with the decals. This is not a great kit, that's for sure. In the end I just wanted to get'er done. There are better kits out there now; Revell for one and I would recommend going that way if you are thinking of building this remarkable plane. Thanks again to Markus and Joachim for hosting this Group Build of yet another interesting genre.

Here's my Final on the General locomotive. I finish up with a little more scratch-building to try to get it as close the real thing as possible. I also went back to the antique fair where I bought this kit and bought some more models so I do a stash haul of those as well. Hope you find it interesting. Let me know what you think. Thanks, - John

Here's my progress on the General locomotive. I clean up all the parts and do some scratch-building to try to get it closer to looking like the real thing. Hopefully I'll finish it up in the next video. Again, this is completely different from anything I've built so far, and I'm having a lot of fun. Hope you find it interesting. Let me know what you think. Thanks, - John

Final update on finishing my USS Enterprise project. I added the EZ Line rigging, attached all the aircraft and vehicles in their final positions, and added the crew figures. And finished the bases of all the 1/72 aircraft with name plates. I will put out one final video with a recap of the entire project with the history of the Big E that year (1968) as well as what I did on each model, etc. L...

It sure had its challenges John, glad you worked through them, turned out really nice, Tamiya ts 29 is a great color, Happy Thanksgiving buddy, 🦃
@@ramblers69 Yes, those Tamiya spray cans are great. I did 2 motorcycles with the gloss aluminum and now this plane and really impressed. May start going with them more often. Happy T-Day to you as well Tom.
Nice build John
Great build ! 👍
Very nice completion John. Watching your progress gave me flashbacks of when I was building mine 😊 those long thin red walkways on the wing sure fought you. Phenomenal job on the inside of the exhaust outlets, very realistic looking. Yes the intake cones are supposed to point downward at a 10 degree angle.👍
@@davidchin350 Thanks for checking in David. These challenging kits keep us on our toes and make the nicer ones better appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving Buddy.
Hi John. A long but in every kind successful way, which this model has made. Great work and the result is a jewel for every showcase. A cool airplane for reconnaissance flights. Please send me some photos (5-10) of your SR-71 for the later end-compilation on email. Best wishes and much fun with your next idea in your hobby. Joachim
@@joramamodellbau3987 Thank you for the kind comment and again for hosting the GB. I’ll definitely send you some pictures this weekend.
John, I know the struggles of this kit and the "new" Revell one and I have to tell you....the way you hung in there and finished it and how great it looks is pretty inspiring man. I'm currently struggling with some other kits and seeing this just makes me feel like "man John hangs in there with it so I can too" . This SR-71 is great and one heck of a build to have on the shelf (that's what I say to myself when I walk by mine at least hahaha). Fantastic work as always
Thanks so much Joe. That really means a lot. Glad I could help in that way. Believe me, I wanted to abandon this thing a few times and switch to the Tamiya BMW 7.5 and sidecar, i.e, an actual quality kit, but it was for a group build (and it wouldn't fit back in the box 🤫) so I figured what the heck. Struggling through the tough kits makes the nice ones all the more sweet. Thanks again and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Great job on the build and vid, as well! I already did the "regular" version of this bike, but now I'm looking forward to this custom modified version.
Nice build. But regarding the kit, I wonder if I am the only one who feels both Hasegawa / Academy / Hobbyboss 72nd scale P-40E kits are all a bit bananish. Banana-shaped, I mean. As if either the nose or the tail go upwards when they should drop. Also the nose radiator "belly" seems a little upwards to my eye in all these kits.
@@DavidMartinez-fq9eh Thanks for the view & comment. To be honest I don’t know enough about the plane to say. I didn’t do any research on this build. Just pretty much followed the instructions. I’ll defer to those more familiar and knowledgeable on the subject.
Very neat!
Nice👍!.. I would have used Light Gull Grey.
@@allgood6760 Yes, this was unfortunately my first use of Tamiya acrylics. For all others I used Testors Model Master which is FS specific, but the translation guide I referenced gave me a bogus reference and the Tamiya grey was way too dark and I realized it too late. Lesson learned the hard way. 🤬😩☹️But thanks for the view and comment 😉
Fantastic presentation, MightyJJK! Looks and sounds amazing! Excellent sharing. Continued success. God bless.
Hi John ... wow ... you did take a impressive amount of effort in this ... and it paid off ... a great build and a nice update my friend ... thanks for sharing and happy modeling, a big hug ... cheers Markus
Inspirational!
damn I haven't seen that kit in years
Moving along nicely John being an older kit fit issues will pop up Revell poped it last yer in 1/48 scale i hear the fit is bad have it in the stash waiting 👍👍
Now that's a big bird looking forward to seeing this build have fun i be watching 👍👍
Beautiful build John good idea with the match sticks regarding your fire wood tea might help with the staining just a thought nice stash adds have fun with the builds 🏆🏆👍👍
OUTSTANDING work Sir and dedication Charlie Mac sent me over new sub here greetings from Ireland John👍👍🏆🏆
Thank you for the view, kind comments, and sub!
Blackbird is coming along nicely John, 👍😎
That's one big bird , buddy. Nice work on the seams. A yuge pain , but well worth it. Model on , ya magnificent model buildin bastard. 👍
A good looking progress with the Blackbird SR-71. A impressive airplane, John. Wish you further much fun with the kit. Greetings, Joachim
Good progress on this Blackbird John 👍
👍
Awesome
Oh my little bird, this was first airplane in my life. I've made the first takeoff and landing on it. Love it, nice fancy airplane which forgives pilot any mistakes. I'm missing him. My like and Sub for memorizing
@@fighterbomberMiG27 I’m glad you enjoyed it. This is from an airshow I go to each year and they have a team of 4 of them that do a demonstration. Thanks.

The General is Awesome!!!! Love what you did with the Tinder car. Nice finds!!! Thanks for sharing
Yeah, it was something way out of the ordinary and a lot of fun. Thanks Mike
Nice work on the 🚂LoCo🚃 And some nice adds at great prices.🏭🐀
The Blackbird is a very good choice! The dimensions of the bird are huge - the model wouldn't fit in any of my display cases. Have fun with the kit! 👍
@@jostscalemodelling Yes, it is very big, but I think I found a place for it. Thank you for the view and kind comment. 😉
Hi John...the SR-71 Blackbird is an impressive and unique aircraft 😊👍 Great entry my friend! ... I look forward to seeing this huge Testors model come to life. A big hug and happy modeling, cheers Markus
Awesome haul and nice result on the General 💥👍💥
Good Entry with the SR-71 Blackbird. Nice to see some pictures of the original plane too. Cool choice, John. Wish you much fun with this kit. Greetings, Joachim
Thanks again for hosting the GB Joachim!
Humongous entry! Excellent choice 💥👍💥
Great entry John the SR-71 is a bad ass plane
Nice kit, yes its very long when completed. Wonder if all the included paint and glue accessories are still usable?🤔
I got this at a contest/show and they weren't included. Apparently they were too old at that point, but the kit is complete. 🙂. Yeah, I have no clue were I'm going to put it. I may do it wheels up and hang it. Stay tuned. Thanks David.
The General turned out awesome. I think you are right on about staining the wood a little. Great great adds too!
Yeah, I think I'm going to take the same approach albeit with wood stain instead of glue... just eye dropper it onto there. 🤞 Thanks Joe.
oh yeah, now we are talking! Can't wait to see it John.
Excellent job on The General. Old Stone-Face would be proud. Great adds. Especially the Phaeton. Model on , ya magnificent model buildin bastard.
Thanks Charlie. I'm glad you enjoyed it. My first train model, and I have you and others in the community to thank for expanding my horizons past just airplanes. Thanks!🚂😃👍
General looks really nice John
awesome job ...i was going to suggest you stain the wood but you said you were going to do that.. thx 4 sharing.. vinny
General looks great. Nice kit adds. Enjoy the builds 😊
Beautiful job on a sows rear end of a kit! You've turned out a work of art. I never new the bow look outs were saved from the WW2 Enterprise. I hope they save those during the scapping of the Mighty E. Subscribed and will be surfing through your channel.
Thank you so much. I recently posted the final video on this entire project; i.e., the finished ship and all the aircraft in 1/72. Thanks again.
Nice video thank you
Cool builds congrats on u. Awards thank u for sharing keep on building
Looked like a great show and market to pick up some cool kits💥👍💥
What a great show, just don't get that in New Zealand. Don't get motorcycle models for those prices either! A Heller BMW R100 in 1/8th at $70NZ, what a dream😀. Those Heller kits build into lovely models. I have a Norton Commando I built in about 1984, the separate cylinder fins build up to the best detail cylinders you can get, enjoy.
Congrats on the medals and the kit adds. That AMT 62 Catalina is a great kit with those fuel lines and multiple tire sets. Great idea to stay in the space category.😊
@@davidchin350 I’m shocked that in two contests now, mine has been the only entry. Sad. Thanks for the view and kind comments David.
Cool kits John
Nice finds at the show John!!
Great looking builds on those tables. I missed this first video. I am really hoping you get into FSM!!! I think that Enterprise should get gold man, not a silver. Congratulations again on all the awards.
Well I did build the E some 12+ years ago, and I agree with the assessments. Yeah, it's very humbling. It's not a competition per se, it's an evaluation. (Way more modelers are recognized then a simple 1st, 2nd, 3rd by category) You start at Gold and then they deduct for each "flaw" they find. Neither my E-2A nor M1 Abrams even rated as they had some issues I hadn't noticed before. You can see they scrutinized every thing with flashlights, et al. Thanks for the view and kind comment.
congrats on getting some awards John! Well deserved. Nice adds as well for sure. You are going to have some folks drooling over that 63 vette, I believe it might be pretty rare..
I chose it because '63 is my birth year and who doesn't love a Vette. Be sure to check out part 1 for all the incredible entries. Thanks Joe.
