    Why not build one with fiberglass

    • @cj8mule
      @cj8mule 3 месяца назад

      Interesting comment... this boat is a plywood cored fiberglass boat. A notable difference between this boat covered in e-glass and epoxy is the weight. A similar 27' boat built with a mold and chopped fiberglass / polyester resin would weigh twice as much. This boat weighs in around 4300 pounds wet.

    Does your tolman self bail?

    • @cj8mule
      @cj8mule 5 лет назад

      The green tolman does self tender. Although, I only raised the stringers 2 1/2" above spec, it wasn't enough for all the extra weight I put in the stern. Water will come in when a big guy like me fishes in the stern. (especially in a following heavy sea) Ping pong ball scupper flaps eliminate most if not all water entering, but lets water exit. I do have a large bilge pump under the deck, but has never been used. I would have to hole the boat to get any water under the deck. The red tolman does not have scuppers and uses a bilge pump to get rid of fish blood/water. There is a build thread on fishyfish.com titled 'Southern Maryland Jumbo' for the green Tolman. The red Tolman has a build thread on the bassbarn and woodenboat forums.

    A break deck would have been suited to this boats sheer, would have allowed the cuddy to be lower in height and a much dryer vessel. I definitely would have taken a few degrees off the sheer caps and made it a bit safer to walk or egress and regress the vessel which I find very unnecessary to have, thus levelling the gunnels somewhat. Not my boat so what can I say.
