This is a docu about how Gander ATC helped land over 400 wide-body aircraft on 9/11, so why did the production company stick a Ryan air 737 landing @ 39:26 as the last footage of an aircraft landing in the docu?
all times are EDST, not EST..
Joke Islam is peacful....
Too bad this video go into the logistical challenge of handling all those travelers in an airport in a remote part of Canada. What did they do with all of them?
Really interesting subject matter but boy the cringe-worthy acting and reenacting with a crappy green screen effect is distracting😂
There's another version of this called 9/11 Control the skies
I was on an Alitalia flight 608 to be exact a 747 to JFK from Rome. We were forced to land in Gander.
Documentary chopping footage together is very jarring and with the dramatised footage is difficult to watch - totally unnecessary
Amazing how well these folks operated under pressure....
So the silver lining for the birthday boy was that he got the rest of the day off, right?
In the description it states, "400 planes were in the air that needed to land." It was more like 4,000.

"My experience in the military I can recognize a coordinated attack" Yeah? Was it the 2nd plane hitting 18 minutes later that gave it away?
People should research how important the Gander airport was in WWll!!
Woah. I did my air traffic controller in-person assessment recently and that was the exact building I did my assessment in.

Still can’t believe this happened 26:04
9/11 the day the Federal Government failed the American people. It is also the day that the American people came together and showed true patriotism of our fellow citizens and our country.
I loved this style of documentary from the 2010s I think the Canadian controllers sound more aggressive and almost sinister then they were in real life “you must land in gander” “I am not obliged to tell you anything, you will land in Gander” It was probably a little more toned down then that
has the name of this been changed? i thought it was "clear the skies:??
Casting did a great job in matching the younger actors.
Many Pilots and Controllers were military backgrounds.
Thank you to whoever posted this video.
Honestly it’s incredible that Gander managed to land all those airplanes without crashing some of them. And also that any one of those landed airplanes could have been already been under control of terrorists.
Im still pi55ed.
I bet crews thought ATC controller was mad, and until they landed and passengers had been checked out yo nake sure no hijackers were among them ,ATC couldnt trll them what is about as each ATC controller don't know pilot's ,they proberly don't know pilits names so if they talk to a crew they dont know if that pilots are who they say they are ,or as hijackers they had yo asume that every plane could be a potential hijacker even once on groung, they csn only tell them once their airline has congitmed pilot is cslled blah. The airport at gander were heries for getting everyone down safe so security could check passengers and plane Even if other planes had been pitrntially hijacjed and noone will ever know if thst may hsve hsppened putting these planes on gtound eould have spoilt other hijackers plans Gander ATC were heroes that day, gander ptoberly potentially saved 25,000 more lives that day snd thrir famalies and friends naybe a million more lives❤❤❤❤❤
Wow, great doc. Just a little peeved that it doesn't give the mid and last part of that extraordinary action: what happened to all the people on the grounded planes, when were they able to clear out again? Did they return back or did they made their way into the US somehow. I really would have liked to learn about these circumstances too.
The people in Gander invited them to their homes and fed them and took care of them and the planes didn't leave till the 16th
In Europe, Central America, and South America, planes were grounded, police checked-out planes, planes were turned back and grounded.
Every year you learn something new about the type of heroism that was shown that bright blue morning on September 11, 2001. I had no idea about Operation Yellow Ribbon. God Bless to the Canadian ATC officers and too all ATC both in the US and around the world who keep our skies safely moving 🙏 ❤
Never thought about the Canadian controllers and how much they helped us that day. If any read this comment, thank you.
I can understand a pilot being told to divert to Gander is going to question the directive. I would have said "if you insist on entering US airspace you risk being shot down."
I thought the US authorities told the gander tower to say that if the pilots questioned the order to land.
It would just be nice if the United States would follow that example on a permanent basis instead of constantly fighting each other over stuff as stupid as politics and / or opinions etc. but they won't , not until it bites them in the @$$ again . When Pearl Harbor happened , everyone banded together and fought and worked together . After the War ended they went right back to fighting with each other over stupid things . Then World War 2 happened and same thing , people banded together worked together and after the war ended went right back to fighting amongst themselves . Then 9-11-2001 happens and SAME THING ! Do people not understand ? These events didn't teach ANYONE ANYTHING and frankly it is sad and pathetic at the same time .
Still to this day some Americans still think it was done by US government what a bunch of dumb people
Geesh talk about Unsung HerO's....God Bless you and THANK God for folks like you❤❤❤
Canadians and Americans are always friends, the brothers. God bless us all!
These are the heroes we have not heard much about. I remember looking up at the sky and my two year old asking, “planes go bye - bye?” ... no planes, no trains, no traffic in my area... sickening quiet. I never imagined what the air traffic controllers accomplished that day. Phenomenal! They had many lives in their hands, and did not fail a single one. Thank you, to all unsung heroes.
I have met many Canadians in my life. I think very highly of them. They were very kind to the travelers.
I've always wondered what sort of difficulties must have been going on for all passenger jets in the air to suddenly have to land at the nearest airport. I really didn't think about transatlantic flights. I'm sure suddenly shutting down US airspace increased the possibilities of accidents occurring. Thanks for posting!
This is absolutely amazing! I heard of this just a few years ago. I saw a documentary on how the lovely people of Gander opened their hearts and homes to complete strangers. It reminds me of the people of Lockerbie Scotland after a bomb exploded in a large American plane, and it crashed into their town. They respectfully cared for the dead, their belongings, and later on, the deceased’s families. These huge numbers of planes landing on 9/11 in various airports is an unimaginable feat, utterly professionally handled. They didn’t loose a single plane. When I think of what happened in Tenerife in the 1970’s.. large planes having been diverted to an airport not designed for large jets… and a series of very unfortunate circumstances causing the largest air crash in history. I hadn’t even thought about how hard everybody had to work to pull this off. After the initial shock of the 4 planes crashing and buildings collapsing a lot of things went right. Unsung heroes , indeed!
Best documentary Never seen such content though I have seen thousands of videos on 9/11
They didn't cover what they did with all the people on those flights and when they got to resume to their destination.
Ah, the people died...
There were so many heroes that day...ATC were absolutely amazing in what they got done in the span of time it was completed. The residents opening up their homes and hearts to all of these strangers who became fast friends. The people of Canada have always been great neighbors to the USA. That day and the days that followed as airspace remained closed in the US...I can only imagine what the great people of Canada that stepped up and just did what was needed. Amazing people for sure if you ask me.
AIRPLANES ARE COMING AIRPLANES RE COMING SADLY ...... NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO STOP WHY ?
That this was accomplished without a single accident -- incredible!
Errrm just a quick one….how could the controller be watching a replay of the first plane striking the tower as the second hit when the footage of the first plane striking was only shown on TV the day after. Hmmmmmm 🤔
because this is a dramatic re-enactment not a live event.
@@dianepm so like america, more lies and not showing the public the facts. Good to know
I love that our fellow North Americans took care of us in our hour of need
The Canadians and Mexicans really stepped up on 9/11. Thank you to the Canadian and Mexican ATC and airport ops, Gander and elsewhere, who pulled this off! We were not safe in the US, and you took on a huge burden for us.
God bless Canada, and thank you for your kindness and generosity! ❤️ 🇨🇦. Never forget! 🇺🇸 I will never forget! 🇺🇸
Heros all!
I was appalled that the European airports of origin denied all these flights to return back home - essentially dumping the entire mess on Canada.
Generally they don't carry enough fuel to cross the ocean and come back home.
They weren't denied. The planes didn't have enough fuel to return. Come on now, use your brain.
