This was shot in 2015 when some illegal fishing boats were burnt to send a message to other potential fishing boats. The formation of the Palau National Marine sanctuary soon followed.

I preferred the outer western terrace sites like Hammerhead and Jurassic Park. There were Mantas all over the place in the lagoon though too.

Yeah, there's been a lot of discussion over limiting numbers of divers at dive sites like this during peak season but money talks and no one cares about the actual animals people pay money to see. This particular Russian Videographer who swims right at the manta to get his shot before fist pumping like an arsehole, is a particularly bad example of the types of tourist who once they have have paid to be there, think they can do whatever they want.

@@richardbrooks-lightning ikr! It’s just so sickening that those people think they can do whatever they want and they think that following the manta ray is an appropriate behavior! It’s NOT! Animals need their privacy too!

@@LunaBelle-sp2sq truth is at most heavily frequented dive sites the sensitive species have fled the area or gone deeper out of recreational range....

Couldn't agree more, lovely part of the country, a real hidden gem.

They can't be everywhere all the time. People are already crossing illegally from other countries, by the time they're in British territorial waters it's too late and many need help.
