New project!!! My favourite aquarium fish off them all . The Checkered barb
Просмотров 344Год назад
Checkered barbs !! What can I say my all time favourite tank fish . Some maybe suprizesd by that with my love for the Amphilophus genus of cichlids but nothing compares to my love for this species . So les take a trip down memory lane and do a callus stream tank

All the ponds around coundon /allesley in coventry were full of them at one time ,there dissapearing with the ponds themselves now ,dam shame .
@@carlatkins9096 theee is still quite a few . But there well kept secrets . I tell you my favourite thow it’s in coundon at the bottom of staircase lane on the wedge . Full off crucian tench roach perch . Even seen a small jack or two . Very overgrown in the summer and deep but if you get on there early part of the season before the growth you can be a sure of a few bites .think Massey pond my still be there aswell full of crucian. But cery much overgrown now hardly ass Eastleigh the last time I ventured to see
🔥🔥🔥
Cool stuff!😮New sub!🫡👍🏻
@@Oz.AquaticS cheers bro
I love that they are barbs, that they are active and that they are tiny weeny little things. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I might try and get one for my tank if there not aggressive towards smaller fish like minnows and other bottom dwelling catfish/panda garra

Is that plant on the left the one you told me about Gaz?
Yes it’s in genus there a few easy to grow
Love to catch a zander in Kent you don’t get many
Thames and canals round there have them in bro
How big is this tank
do the bullheads eat prepared foods too?
We caught so many of these in Croatia we started throwing them back. They were like a pests here.
Would you sell big Sid I have a very big empty tank? Hope your well 👍
This is cool! This great! This is awesome!
that looks like a fish tank to me...
Is this the Coventry Canal Gaz? I saw a Red Eared Terrapin on the stretch just behind Widdrington Road about ten years ago. There has been a number of sightings along that stretch.
It’s still there
This was filmed just after signal box pub coventry
Great work. Really enjoyed this video. I'm researching minnows and found your channel. Subbed.
Thanks buddy
You explained a lot 😳... thank you 🥴
Nice
Thanks
i have just acquired in the last couple of months 7 bitterling, its amazing how fast they destroyed a fully planted aquascape. They love raw peas lol
that setup looks fantastic, keeping minows in a tank is hard to do. nice to see
Thanks tbh it’s fairly easy as long as good amount of them . Hardest fish I found to keep in a tank was the ruff there awkward with lighting prefer dark shadows area but what predictor don’t . Thanks for watching
Beautiful Endler colony.
Thanks
Hi Gaz - any tips for feeding bullheads? I had one in a tank with other natives, and it was a pain to feed ... would only take worms, and I had to get them right in front of its nose before it would take them, so 9/10 times other fish would grab it.
Blood worm and jokers from fishing tackle shop they love them also early morning late night dull lights they feed better and more readily
@@gazgonenative4696 Thanks Gaz!
Nice tank like this hope your well
Thanks Liam totally nature tank not been cleaned or empty in 4 years it has filter light heater but walstad the rest
1 foot & 7 inches the Japanese white Crucian Carp grows up to be says the internet , so what Crucian Carp species is this one in the link > r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrCmmthAdBj4BMAYQgPxQt.;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Nj/RV=2/RE=1674605026/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fCrucian_carp%23%3a~%3atext%3dThe%2520crucian%2520carp%2520is%2520a%2520medium-sized%2520cyprinid%252C%2520typically%2cheaviest%2520published%2520weighed%25203%2520kilograms%2520%25286.6%2520lb%2529.%2520/RK=2/RS=10bhDA4o7UMuDQrD6CzW6bAk9cw- .?.
That grows up to 2 feet & one inch long ?.
That would be this one the ¨ Carassius Carassius ¨ whatever that species of Crucian Carp species that is out of the six species Genus . I don´t know if all 6 can grow up to that long as well or not . Does anyone know the answer . It would mean a lot to me to know even though just carious . And if can´t fine the link with the answer , thanks so much for looking .
Thanks very Interesting .... please do another updated video on this as heating a tropical tank cost around £ 240 per year I,m looking to move to cold / temperate aquariums ...
Will do on next project . Just closing the last one down as we speek
Hi Gaz, do you still have this or your other native tanks? I had some very small stone loach that i lost... but my tank is sitting at 22°c. All my other fish are fine, including 3 bullheads, small barbel, tench, sticklebacks, very small carp, weather loach and gudgeon. The stone loach were my favourites i might try again...but only if they have a good chance of surviving. I've ordered oxygen tests too. Great videos btw! Inspired me to start my native aquarium! 👌👌
Need high flow rate and lower temp but they can be funny when small
Cheers I've got a very big filter (200-800l) for my 340l aquarium and 2 airstones on full pelt so I might give them a go again if I can find some. What temp were yours at roughly? Sorry for the questions appreciate your info 👌
@@aidangreen5482 mine was at I think max was 18 but can’t remember now tbh been few years since that tank was running
@@gazgonenative4696 thanks Gaz 👍

Nice Gaz, how big is he?
Thankyou he’s around 8 years old and 15 inch and around 3 lb in weight. He maxed out around 3 years ago . Thanks for watching buddy .
Big Sid absolute Beast mate one of the nicest in the world too
Thanks dude
Beautiful tank. I know they're not native but wanted to add some natives to my common goldfish tank. Thinking as they aren't that far from crucian carp. Got a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft and wanted pond type fish to match the same water requirements. Don't see many tanks set up for natives. Really live what you've done with the jungle vall. How big do the minnows get? Are they easy to feed or do you find they prefer live foods? Think the gudgeon eoukd make a good addition too. I'm very disabled so hubs wants to bring a pond indoors for me :) Great inspiration x
Carry on mate there exactly same care and compatibility is fine
@@gazgonenative4696 thanks so much for the reply. Feeling more excited to do this!
@@Ceretrea check out other uk native videos on my page mate there plenty of options to gold with goldfish

Thanks skipper watching its amazing what can be achieved in a tank that balanced . I’m sure Sid probably eats few but everything in his tank out breeds him . Also he so calm and he does know his size so don’t put himself in situations lol . Thanks for watching . Btw this tank had no water changes in over 1 year I just top up and let the plants shrimps endlers platies and swordtails all balance on own
@@gazgonenative4696 You're welcome my friend!!!
Nice
Thanks bro
Hi Gaz nice fish. A Sucking Loach will live quite happily in cold water and will be a much more voracious algae eater. It will also blend in quite well having a similar look to a Gudgeon.
There a absolute pain when larger they will try eat slim coat on others . But yes there do job wen small . But I be honest I really don’t like them lol
@@gazgonenative4696 Yeah they do get quite thuggish when bigger. I would just sell them back to the pet shop before they get to that point, teehee.
Gaz Sid is on fire 🔥 and hands down gonna be a champ 🏆
Thanks. Mate thanks for watching
Looks good
Thanks William . Happy fish keeping my friend
@@gazgonenative4696 you to
Are those bloodworms you're feeding it?
Yes and jokers . And black worms too
@@gazgonenative4696 thanks, a friend caught one and dropped it in my tank and I have no way to get it back to the lake now so at least I know something other then my tadpole food that it'll eat...
