    If Lansdorp is convinced grips are set irreversibly by age 12, then he should be the biggest proponent of coaching rec players with what they have, not the latest Lansdorp or ATP technique.

    Dave, this point about the forearm being in the same plane on all groundstrokes and volleys as the racquet meets the ball, even if the hands are laid back in order to drag the "blade" into that contact, is a checkpoint I have found extremely important. It was first taught as a "fundamental" in a 1904 book that you have had a chance to explore as documented in my recently published book. It explains how to hit low balls as well as high balls, even using the fade/draw paradigm. I have had success teaching the two handed backhand as a first stroke across the spectrum of athleticism. As American kids increasingly take up tennis at much lower levels of hand-eye coordination than previously, I find it even a more effective tool since I often have kids who can't even catch a ball with their hands when they start. Hitting the angled volley from first strokes, even for youngsters, is key because I believe every ball should be intended to strike on a diagonal (allowing a repeatable swing in my experience) which means you hit up through and across the ball (creating a diagonal path once you examine it). You and Bill both understand how to develop high school teams as very few do. Very progressive video with a lot of solutions to contradictory instruction. Dave's work got a lot of ink in my book and it's just volume 1. Both of your work will be discussed further in next two volumes.

    My experience is exactly as described by Shelly. I estimate being under 200 feet from the courts, with a very busy intersection in between. Hours 7am -10 pm so the players have 15 hours to play and I have only 9 hours of quiet. A highway close by, a childcare and intersection noise are all drowned out by the PB noise. Cannot do anything in my backyard, on my deck, in my pool etc...have lost all enjoyment in and out of my home. I have to put on music/tv etc to block the noise of the PB inside my home. Windows cannot be opened; weather, I live in MN, has not stopped playing; snow is shoveled and the 100 degree heat indexes only slowed the play to 2 courts vs 6 .... I clearly see the courts every single day/night as my formal living room faces east where the courts are. I pay high property taxes (12K) and my home, which I have lived in for almost 24 years, is a now a prison!! Emails/conversations with Parks & Rec Director have been useless; have spoken to Asst. City Manager and waiting on a response...not holding my breath. I WFH and am angry all the time!

    great pod cast- when you play tennis you make a match- call players for singles or doubles- Like pickle ball some one can show up and wait hoping you and they will let them transition in or rotate in- pickle ball is like a herd mentality - the more players the better- you don't want to be hitting with your 80 years old husband on a singles pickle ball court you want the other players to mix in with the more the better- as for tennis you build the bridge. they will come- that's what tennis need to promote- -- my club I have 3 nights/days of tennis that you can get hold of me and you can play one way or the other- If someone is not calling you and your not call someone to play you are not playing tennis- I personally will not make matches but will forward players names and you have to do the work other then the nights/days I put on- I don't play pickle ball

      @BillPattonBrainSportsDotCoach Год назад

      I think a better question is "Where do I direct my dominant eye?" Make sure you can see the ball with your right eye out of the opponents strings. That would mean probably be more open stance, but I can only give an opinion if I see a video. Do you want a video training session?

      @@BillPattonBrainSportsDotCoach Grateful for the attention. Yes, you are completely right. Hitting open stance my forehand improves a lot. The problem is that you can't always get into this position, it's a hit that demands more the spine/hips, and that's why I've been looking for a better way to hit the forehand on balls where the open stance doesn't work so well, so natural ( short, dead balls that require forward displacement). Thanks again for your attention

    During the spring when JV varsity as you found out plays a different type of season and our boys would be out there at the same time she had a lot of energy and is very unselfish in the longest share courts with her that says a lot about her our Brophy team really mirrors everything that she talked about because we're a no-cut team as well because of that sometimes or almost most of the time we have two freshmen tennis teams so we have two separate coaches and two buses. During the JV season these freshmen that want to come up to play we've created another League called the bronco League there are such interest and high skill level in our tennis team that many of these kids are not able to make it on JV. I work on all the teams all levels we actually have 25 extra kids that did not make it on JV that just want to have fun and don't have the skill level as some of the other players. But because I spend time with them in introducing them to the sport and helping them understand all the complexities of it some of them actually by their junior year make it even to varsity and definitely JV the rest of them are perfectly content being right where they are. We use the Phoenix tennis center as our home courts they have 25 quarts and they've been our primary courts for several years. 10 or 15 years ago we lost our small tennis courts because of parking problems so we moved to the tennis center. I'm probably one of the few other than Lori that is uspca trained and I try to use those skills and helping develop our players even though they come in different walks of life and have different paths I give them the opportunity to improve and help them along the way this is my 8th year as the development coach and it's great to watch these kids grow from freshman season graduating four years later watching the mature.

    I missed the part where you solved the problem. I get there are plenty of opportunities, but here is the problem. The foreign recruiting in tennis has caused a major imbalance with academics and athletics. Here is a real example, take the #15 kid in SC (junior boy) in Tennis recruiting and let's assume this kid would like to stay in the Carolina's, go to a decent size school and play tennis. Here are 20 schools that he can't play at : UNC Clemson NC State Univ SC Charlotte App State ECU Charleston UNC Wilmington Queens Western Campbell UNCG Wofford Wingate Gardner Webb Elon Presbyterian Winthrop Francis Marion This doesn't include Duke, Wake, Davidson etc. This is a list of the more popular D1 and D2 options in the Carolinas. If you are the #15 golfer in the state you could probably play at a lot of these schools. So this leaves the other options and if you talk to professionals in the industry that help with college placement, they are not too keen on those other options because they have low graduation rates ie. 40% or poor academic track records. Also, the number 15 kid in SC (junior boy) is likely a USTA NTRP 5.0 level player, and 15 years ago, they would definitely be able to play in some of the above mentioned schools. So how has this benefited the colleges? Is there more $ coming into these programs, are there more fans watching college tennis? actually 3 of the above mentioned schools have dropped tennis...ECU, App State and Winthrop. The only resolution is to limit the number of foreign recruits otherwise kids that get to 10 UTR will never play because so many of those kids are high academics and they don't want to go to the tiny D3 school that is smaller than the high school they attended.

      @marvintenniscoach7335 2 года назад

      @@BillPattonBrainSportsDotCoach no, what I'm saying is that foreign recruitment is not helping the sport. I didn't see it live, but the crowd at the all American NCAA FINAL between McEnroe and John Sadri was huge. Today there are fewer ppl watching college tennis. No one knows the players. 70% foreign recruitment. That means fewer hats and t-shirts being purchased. The return on investment for a male American tennis player makes no sense anymore. To get to D1 level you'll spend more than 4 yrs of in state tuition. Just about any other sport will provide a better return. What other college sport recruits players that played on the pro tour and come in as a 22 yo freshman?
