Mad Brother Trucker
Великобритания
Добавлен 21 июл 2018
I am a class 1 truck (artic / semi-trailer) driver from the UK. I'm employed through an agency, so I get to drive all sorts of tractors and trailer combos. I'm new to RUclips, so lets see how it evolves.

Bay 5 Jack knife
Просмотров 30 тыс.6 лет назад
Jack knifing an artic on to door 5 at TNT Slough. Due to the wall on the left and the other vehicles out of view, and opposite the trailers, the driver needs to drive around the corner before putting on opposite lock. Get it in!!
come on mate, made the job harder for urself, crack on s shape get the angle slide her in jobs a gooden!
Good old TNT yards lol, soon brush up your reversing skills in some of them. Getting back to depot on a saturday morning after last shift I used to just bounce it in of the trailer next to it 😂. Nice and steady away there driver 👍
Bouncing off the trailer next bay!!! 🤣… yeah we all did that!!! So true 👍🏼
That’s so true!! 🤣.. bouncing off the trailer on the next bay. We all did that!! 🤣
This is a good reverse but you didn't necessarily have to jack knife it to get it in 👍
You could be right, but it’s definitely a bit tighter than it looks 😃
Left on the bay about as straight as a nine bob note... shunter be out in a minute calling u all kinds of cunt
Amazing Skills😎
A jackknife reverse that doesn’t need to be one 🤷♂️
Good point… I didn’t have class1 very long at the time.. having said that I still cock it up sometimes!! 😄
Doesn’t need to be one, but why not practice for when it is needed? I did this the other day purely on the basis there are times it’s required and I’d never done it before.
Its awkward you cant see the nearside of the trailer how much room you have especially without a watcher thats artics for you i dont think people understand until you have experienced it
You’re so right… it’s a tricky thing to do and it took me a very long time to get used to it. I still mess it up sometimes!! 🤣
I think you did a great job calm collected easy just a shame matey boy there messed your shot up 😂
Hey thanks Jim!! Kind words. I like your profile pic… is that you in the bucket?? 😃👍🏼
@@stewartscarff9524 Yes back when I worked on a farm. I’ve driven wagons for 10 years now 👍
Nice one.. you’ve done a bit longer than me… I’ve done 8 years on the road. Pulling fridges out of West Sussex now
Must be an old video,it's Fed ex now.
You’re right… it was 2017. In fact it was fedex when I made the vid, they hadn’t got around to changing the colour of the trucks at that point. 👍🏼
Slough trading estate I worked in there for a little while a few years ago FedEx brought tnt now
I was there in 2017.. Maggie and Parm were the bosses. Nice people.
Was no need to do it like that though you had loads of room on other side of yard
Sometimes it goes straight in… I still get days when it’s like getting toothpaste back in the tube though!! 😄… early start today, so today will probably be one of those days!! 🤩
Top man!! 👏
Hey thanks man! Are you doing a bit of trucking yourself?
@@stewartscarff9524 i have just started to learn. Just passed all the theory bit, now about to do the practical.
Excellent…. Good luck with your training. I wish you all the best…. Have fun on your new adventure!!
Thanks mate.
That is pretty impressive
Hey thanks man 👍🏼.. much appreciated 😃
Just use the two special words, fuck off and find somewhere else to work, plenty of jobs. Could be workers in those trailers on bay and there are other drivers waiting to come in, its silly and poor planning. Evri are the same, they park vans on either side of bay doors and then ask you to reverse between in sometimes a very busy yard.
Made a meal of that ???
Hey Bigwheeler… fair point well made.. I’ve got a little bit better with practice 👍🏼. I’m pulling fridges now. Farms and distribution centres mainly.
made unnecessary hard work out of this…was no need for a hard Jack knife manoeuvre, got there in the end tho I suppose
Fair point Davey 👍🏼…. Lots of drivers can reverse better than me. 6 years on and 1,000s of bays later and I still cock it up from time to time! 😄… keep on trucking brother.. 😃
What is truly strange is that if you are jackknifed at more than 90° to the trailer, the unit will be going in reverse and the trailer is moving forward. Highly surprising when you see that for the first time!!
I thought you werent allowed to jackknife reverse?
Hey Mark… thanks for the comment. Jackknife reversing, or going forward is never ideal. Bad for the tyres, danger of snapping the airlines or electrical lines, and you could also damage the cab fairings if they hit the trailer at extreme angles. There are some situations, however, where a jackknife is the only solution to getting on the bay unfortunately. So I believe that it is allowed, but great care is needed and of course if there is any damage the driver will always get the blame!! 😄
Thanks for the response, appreciate it
Very good any bays further down on the right wouldn't get the swing blind side job
Hey Robert…. Thanks for the comment. The three trailers further down are empties and are just parked against the wall and there aren’t bay doors behind them. They have to be blindsided in but only in order, furthest one first. You probably know, but when you jackknife blindside, all you can see is the side of the trailer in the mirror, not the end of it where it’s passing into the gap.
Nearest one first I should have said… 😄
You blindside it in diagonally and then pull forward to shunt it in closer
wow,, well that small clip brings back a lot of memories for me my friend, not from that depot,,, l was the night shunter for TNT at boyatt wood depot in Eastleigh, many many years ago, in the 70s,,,, The second line in your yard was are fence,,, sorted the man out from the boys,,,
Hey Nigel …thanks for your comment! 👍🏼. Some of those yards are really tight. TNT was a great company (Thomas National Transport)… shame that they got sucked into FedEx.
As an ex. trucker, excellent piece of reversing back in the day I could do, but not now been retired about 10 years don’t think I could achieve that anyway excellent👍👍👍
You could still do it Pete… no worries!! Old truckers never die 😃
I Left Haulage for about 11 Years and then went back into it, only Problem i had was that Technology had Leapt Forward in a Big way, The actual Driving Part was easy as your Experience is Still Logged into your Memory Bank.
@@MADTASS yeah things have moved on a lot over the years when I first started there wasn’t even a CB) in the cab no mobile phones to get in touch with your depot for another load had to use telephone box things gradually moved on. I’ve been out the game now awhile miss it quite a lot .
Nowt wrong with that at all, Typical tight sodding bays, Well done, 👍
Hey thanks Dave!! 😃👍🏼
Great skill....
Hey thanks!! 👍🏼
Great video,,,the driver is careful, calm,no rush...
Hey thanks😃👍🏼
1 cool driver ,may I will be able to do that 1 day
Hey Nicolacant…. I’m sure you will. It’s just going to take a little bit of practice and you’ll be good with it! 😃👍🏼
I love this white sound reversing alarm. I’ve heard that the beeping sound is nowadays illegal in the UK, and the white sound is today more or less a self evident in any heavy vehicle registered to the UK. 😊👍👍👌
You could be right… my current truck does have a beep noise instead of white noise
@@stewartscarff8417Okay, then you have to change it. It’s illegal in these days in the UK to have normal beeping reversing alarms. 🚫
You are mistaken, the only restriction is on the hours of use which is between the hours of 11.30pm and 07.00am and this applies to white noise alarms also, although some sites may only allow white noise alarms, there is no specific law. @@VolvoMarkku
ok👏👏👏👏👏👏
👍🏼🕶️ thanks 🙏
Absolutely fantastic!
Hey thanks Fraser!! Are you starting out in the world of trucking??
I’m just admiring and laughing at this. The street I live on is quite wide and I continually get people in tiny cars feeling the need to turn on my drive.
Hey, thanks for the comment 👍🏼…. Reversing any vehicle you get good days and bad days, especially trucks. Sometimes it goes straight on to the bay and other times it can be like trying to get toothpaste back into the tube!! 😄
I have to say you made darn hard work of that one.
😄 fair point… we’ll made. Most experienced drivers could do it better than I can 👍🏼
If the banksman had been actually giving directions you would have nailed that much quicker. Good job though! Now could you just nip over to Carlisle and drop n swap and then take that to Heathrow before you go home. 😁
You know it!! The hardest reverses always seem to come on the back of your third 15 hour shift in a row!! 😄 keep on rollin my friend 👍🏼
that wasn't a banksman, that was someone waiting to get past and having a crafty smoke on his e cig.
Rodgers thar looking for rigid work let me know
Nah drop the trailer on the floor, that's for the shunter to do 😂
😄 I’ve seen that happen a few times !!
Sure HE can. Colour me impressed.
👍🏼😃
I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by Jack knife? I thought jack knife meant it was fooked? Just looks like you've reversed in and that was that. Am I missing something?
It’s the angle he went in at. This makes me feel useless having been given a much more forgiving angle snd still somehow managing to hit the trailer next to me. Maybe it’s not for me
@@evanmacdonald9632 Give yourself a break my friend. I'm pretty sure it's like anything in life, practice is all that's needed. 👍
@@justonemorego4079 thanks. I’m always in defence mode 🤣
Never give up!! Everyone has the odd ding to begin with 😉
Quality 😂🎉
Thanks buddy 👍🏼🕶️
7791 I m using this unit now But changed colour Now is Fedex 😂
Really?? Nice one 👍🏼. Are you working out of Slough?? Maggie and Parm still there?
@@stewartscarff9524 yes mate from Slough
I'm fairly new to HGV driving and the 180 jackknife bay park is terrifying 😂 could you walk me through what you did? How long do you leave the left lock on before straightening up? Cheers!
I'm hoping you've had a bit of practice after a mth of asking!? This type of trailer is easy to get in, twin axle! Tri axle is more of a pain! If ur unit is a 6leg, bring the lift axle up, u have an override button if ur loaded! This will make tight turning easier. The trick is to find the pivot point, be the last axle or the middle one on a tri axle. So bring ur axle in line with the parked unit, when axle is just past unit turn hard, follow the turn and eas off the turn to follow the trailer in! If u have to pull forward to straighten the trailer a bit, do so! Get out and look GOAL, or ask someone to help u! What u will find is if no-one is about, you'll piss it in, in one hit! If there is one other driver, you'll be stunting back and forth for ages! When I was new, 25 years ago, I'd ask the drivers how they do it? Some would say practice, a few would say they were a shunter b4 going out on the road!
Hey sorry for the delay… you keep the left lock on, but don’t let the trailer angle get less than 90 degrees with the cab. Wierd stuff happens if you do… the cab is going backwards and the trailer goes forward!!! Then the trailer hits the side of the cab and you can damage it. When the trailer is about 30 degrees off the angle of the bay move slowly back and unwind the lock quickly. If you need to make a fine adjustment, just shunt forward about 6 feet. It’s all practice and you’ll be doing it without thinking in no time at all. I wish you all the best with your trucking my friend 👍🏼
It’s when the tractor / trailer combo is folded up like a pen knife 👍🏼
It rhymes with clucking bell! Awesome 👍
Cor blimey guvenor…. Not arf!!
Nice manoeuvre, but should try it with a van with barn doors
Barn doors defo more difficult!.. roller shutter doors make it much easier to see down the side
Envious piece of driving.... Well done... I can only hope to achieve this level one day 👌
I’m sure you will with enough practice… 👍🏼 and if in doubt, get out! And have a look.
Good job! One day I will be able to do that as well. I hope that will happen before I get retired.😂
I’m sure you will be able to.. it’s just practice, never give up my friend!!
that is what i am hoping for i just passed i dont know anything
Congratulations on passing… well done 👍🏼…. You will be fine. Enjoy your new career!! 🎉
Sweet mate.
Thanks Nick 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
Aaaaaa++++11111class job👏👏👏👏. Congratulations. I am at the stage of "right angle and staying in the lane" reversing🤭.
Good work Tomas!!! Thanks for your comment 👍🏼…. Keep on trucking 😎
You can do it!
Awesome job.
Hey thanks Bob… ! 👍🏼😎
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome skill mate!
There’s loads of better drivers than me…. Just takes practice.
Thanks for the visit
Thanks Doggy! 👍🏼
I'm glad this man is calm person....to reverse a trailer takes skills with caution.....
Lovely
Thanks my friend 👍🏼🕶️
Slough dapot Great parking 👌
Thanks my friend 👍🏼
Compared to some of the old farms I delivered to in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland, that is a easy reverse, some of them farms you couldn’t even have both mirrors out you had to squeeze out of the drivers door window when you got in.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼 … what you can’t see is a line of tractor units parked opposite the trailers.
Considering some of the room you had you could have possibly had the unit a little further up the yard for the initial set up and avoided the jackknife.. although I can't see what's at the top of the yard so...
Thanks for watching and commenting - much appreciated 👍🏼… you’re right actually, what you can’t see is the line of tractor units parked opposite the trailers.
@@stewartscarff9524 ah right. I mean it's still better than my parking. I'm new and at the moment my mantra is 'get the trailer in there gap without damaging anything then shunt it forward, and make minor corrections'..
Good for you.. and welcome to the world of trucking!
Don’t hit anything is a good approach!
