Orchestral Variations on Dies Irae is based on a movement from a piano piece by the Russian composer Vladimir Drozdoff (1882-1960) entitled “Au Tombeau de Rachmaninoff”. The original work was written in commemoration of the death of Sergei Rachmaninoff, whose style is also an influence on this Orchestral Variations.
