Should at the very least be wearing a racing neck brace when performing tests at speed if you feel the need to wear a helmet. The added weight of a helmet plus being buckled to your seat can easily result in breaking your neck. A HANS device would be preferable but I understand that it may be a little overkill if you're only do this occasionally. Someone with racing experience.
